In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought two hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first-ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wine...

Henri Le Roy is a first generation winemaker who began his original career as a biologist in Paris. But after falling in love with Burgundy, he found that he did not possess Burgundy money — so he decided to look further east, to the Jura, where he saw similar potential, but a little more affordable lands to begin his second career in wine. His first vintage was 2005, and he has continued to evolve and grow as a winemaker for the past decade-plus. Henri prefers to make ouille-styled wines (topped off barrels), as opposed to the traditional oxidative, o...

Established in 2005 by Henri Le Roy in the Côtes du Jura, Domaine de l'Aigle À Deux Têtes focuses on producing terroir-driven wines from local varietals. The 'Le Clous' is made from 100% Savagnin, known in his sub-region as Naturé. Savagnin is in the Traminer family of grape varieties, a close cousin of Gewurztraminer, though Savagnin is much more citrus driven with high acitiy and a mineral focused palate. The wine is barrel-fermented to bring richness and texture to the grapefruit-centered citrus flavors, while a hint of tropical papaya plays a beauti...

92 points Vinous: "The 2016 Vin Jaune Côtes du Jura was made with certified biodynamic grapes. Dried blossom, lemon peel, chamomile, bread dough and walnuts are all lined up. Elegant and round, the 2016 is built around vibrant acidity and manages to retain its freshness remarkably well. Concluding with a sapid finale, this is a finely delineated Vin Jaune that provides pleasure right out of the gate. (NG) " (07/2024)

100% Gamay. The tiny French town of Cerdon is very close to the Swiss border in a little-known VDQS called Bugey. The wine is sparkling rosé, but not just any sparkling rosé. Made from Gamay, it is a delicately sweet, low-alcohol, strawberry colored wine that is yummy with chocolate-based desserts but also ideal as an early evening aperitif. Delight yourself and your guests with this pure pleasure bomb! 8.5% abv.

Importer's notes:"Maison Angelot, while not trying to emulate Burgundy or even neighboring Savoie in the complexity of its wines, simply makes delicious, food-friendly wines year in and year out. For us, they are a perfect representation of what makes us unique as an importer, what we have always tried and are still trying to do in the wine world... 100% destemmed fruit, 100% carbonic maceration that lasts 10 days. Deep ruby color, aromas of black cherry, licorice and pepper. A bit deeper than the Gamay, and with a touch more tannin. An excellent match f...

Bugey Gamay is a fun, easy-drinking style of wine that's bursting with red fruit. The vines are planted in calcareous soil and produce plump round Grenach grapes that are a vivid violet black.

The Château de Ripaille is located in the far northeastern part of the Savoie appellation, along Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), just four kilometers from Evian-les-Bains, where the famed bottled water comes from. The château dates back to the 14th century, and today it is surrounded by 21 hectares of vines. The soils are mostly limestone, sun-baked glacial deposits and the vines are all Chasselas, the oldest known grape variety (its history dates back at least 5,000 years). The resulting wines are creamy, mineral and a touch bitter, in a pleasant way, with hin...

93 points Vinous: "More evolved than the 2016, the 2017 Vin Jaune L’Étoile performs well. Vivid curry, walnut, bread dough and hay are all lined up. Candle wax and white mushrooms add more complexity. Full-bodied and concentrated, the generous 2017 is a warming and gentle Vin Jaune that checks out with nutty hints on the elongated finish. It can be enjoyed right out of the gate. (NG) " (07/2024) K&L Notes: One of the classic icon producers of the L'Etoile region, Montbourgeau began its history in the 1920s and has produced traditional Jura wines ever...

One of the classic icon producers of the L'Etoile region, Montbourgeau began its history in the 1920s and has produced traditional Jura wines ever since. L'Etoile takes its name from the tiny fossilized stars scattered throughout the limestone and marl soils. The Cuvee Speciale is particularly unique because it is 100% Chardonnay aged in barrel with no topping off for almost 5 years. As the wine slowly concentrates, the classic veil aromas of honey, beeswax, minerals and spices slowly develops. It is an incredibly long and complex wine.

Very fresh and zesty, this wine is a fabulous addition to just about any occasion. Low alcohol (8%), off-dry and unique. It shows good minerality and acidity in the mouth with fresh grape aromas in the nose. The wine is bottled during the primary fermentation when the alcohol level is roughly 6%. The fermentation continues until the pressure inside the bottle stops the fermentation at around 8%. This is basically the same process as artisanal cider production. 8% abv *Natural Wine*

94 points Vinous: "The complex 2020 Savagnin Côtes du Jura Cuvée du Professeur unwinds with prominent notes of saffron, dried chamomile, ripe pear, yellow apple and a touch of jasmine. Powerful and concentrated, the 2020 is a transparent reflection of the warm vintage, but the steely acidity cuts through like a scalpel, flawlessly preserving freshness. Focused, persistent and saline on the finish, the 2020 is simply awesome. (NG)" (08/2024)
