This sister cask to last years exceptoinally well liked DRU 17/A197 #5. It's definitely from that special estate called Easter Elchies but they cannot put the name on the label. I'm happy to tell you that it was distilled at Macallan and filled into refill sherry puncheon in 2009. The resulting whisky is quite unlike modern Macallan with the rich maltiness and framed by the influence of the large oloroso sherry puncheon nicely, but not covering it completely. It is not, like so many IB Macallans, completely naked and these puncheons have a nice honeyed c...

Here is your dark sherry bomb for the season! While it's not coffee dark, it's a gorgeous auburn/polished mahogany color. The simply lovely hue is a hint at the stupendous malt inside the bottle. The wonderful Dailuaine Distillery is finally garnering some notoriety with aficionados and the wider populace in general. It's taken many years to pull this lesser-known distillery out of obscurity and put it on the pedestal it deserves. Now that it's finally getting the recognition it deserves, maybe we wish we could hide it once again. This is officially the ...

This stupendous barrel of the famous Speyside distillery is a throwback to a simpler time when dense dark high proof sherry malt could be acquired for a reasonable price. The barrel in question was filled in 2007 into a first fill sherry butt and aged for 17 years in First Fill Oloroso sherry before being dumped and bottled at cask strength. It was not chillfiltered or colored. K&L has been lucky enough to bottle several signatory Glenlivets from this period and they never disappoint. This barrel was not bottled exclusively for K&L but is sold exclusivel...

Our series of Faultline mystery malts continues with this special cask distilled at the special distillery near Ballindalloch. Glenfarclas absolutely detests others using their name on any labels that might hold juice that they distilled, so our bottler would not include the distillery details on the label, but we have no such qualms telling you exactly where this is from. It was distilled on May 8th, 2010, and filled into a hogshead for 13 years before being bottled exclusively for K&L at a natural cask strength of 55.1% on July 29th, 2024. No chillfilt...

The Old Malt Cask line of single cask single malts was created by the Laing brothers in 1998. They've since bottled countless legendary single malt and continue to surprise and delight connoisseurs with their diverse range of exceptionally selected single casks. Unlike K&L's Exclusive single casks, Old Malt Cask is traditionally bottled at 100 proof, but always without chillfiltration or coloring of any kind. The Laings selected a diverse range of malts to celebrate 25 years in the single cask business, picking out choice casks and bottling them in the g...

Benrinnes is a historical and unique distillery in the Speyside region. Founded in 1826 and completely destroyed by a flood in 1829, the distillery was rebuilt in 1835 a few kilometers from the original site. Once again devastated by flames in 1896, it was entirely reconstructed in 1956. Benrinnes gained international recognition for the finesse of its whiskies produced through unique 2.5-ish distillations and traditional worm tub cooling. This incredible barrel of Benrinnes was purchased exclusively by the renowned Bordeaux Negociant Mähler-Besse. Aged ...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "This expression was distilled from malt peated to 12 to 14 ppm, and aged for 9 years in 80% bourbon and 20% sherry casks before a final year in more sherry casks. Sweet smoke on the early nose, with malt, vanilla, quite dry sherry, apple, and toffee. Smoky barley, vanilla, subtle sherry, and light honey on the palate. Peaches, ginger, and woodsmoke on the medium-length finish. Very accomplished. *Editors' Choice* (GS, Summer 2020)" (06/2020) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This copper-hued whiskey offers concentrated caramel, pe...

Jim McEwan: "COLOUR: Clover Honey / Light Amber Gold. AROMAS: Unmistakably Speyside with the malty oaky vanilla notes working in harmony with the crispy sweet cereal aromas. On a distinct drift of toasted oak, crisp kiln dried malted barley followed by a beautiful combination of vanilla extract, light fruit notes fresh fruit, apple & pear. As the aromas expand a twist of spice evolves from the bourbon residue lying deep in the oak staves. It’s fresh and vibrant with a hint of sweetness, honey and malt extract all working in harmony with the oak resin. It...

Jim McEwan: "COLOUR: Bright Golden Yellow. AROMAS: Classic Speysider with a twist due to the cask capacity. It’s the spirit that claims the high ground and it needs a drop of water to really appreciate its quality. The crispy sweetness of the barley works well with the fresh fruity bouquet created by long fermentation and slow distillation and the small cask is providing a beautiful oak halo which is lovely. TASTE: The satiny texture is biscuit sweet with a fruity foundation. The little cask is providing an opening for the malt and the quality of the dis...

Whisky Advocate: "Aged in American oak, Pedro Ximénez, and oloroso casks. The nose is nutty, with treacle, and developing geranium aromas. Prunes and dates, plus almonds on the buttery palate. Drying in the finish, with nutmeg and wood spice. (GS, Winter 2018)" K&L Notes: The GlenAllachie Distillery was built in 1967 outside of Aberlour. It quietly produced fine single malt without much fanfare until it's closure by Invergordon Distillers in 1987. Eventually, the distillery was sold to Pernod Ricard and began churning out malt again for their range of ...

Distilled at Aultmore distillery in 2008 and aged for 15 years in a single Sherry Butt, which yielded a total of only 422 bottles. Situated on the edge of the Foggie Moss just north of Keith in the heart of Speyside, Aultmore’s fermentation process lends itself to the identifiable ‘fragrant on the nose, substantial on the palate’ characteristic. Tasting notes from the bottler: C O L O R Rich Mahogany NOSE A private library complete with worn leather couch and a scented cinnamon candle burning on a desk. Whisky Advocate: "Earthy notes of dried leaves, wet wool, and a hint of maltiness start things off on the nose, then citrus and red apple. The palate is sweet and balanced, offering warm apple tart, cinnamon, cooked blueberries, raisins, toffee, and Christmas cake, with a slight and appealing hint of soapiness. A lengthy finish brings chocolate cake, glazed orange, pfeffernusse cookies, and winter spice. A delicious holiday warmer. Jim McEwan: "Colour: August Barley Aromas - Opens on a foundation aroma of malted barley, crisp and sweet. Moving into a harmonious Heather in bloom freshness with hints of candied almonds. Next its a gentle drift of charred oak & bourbon which takes you back in time to its original occupant which adds a spicy sweetness that works beautifully with the oak. Palate - At 25 Years old maturing in a bourbon barrel cask the flavours are outstanding. The sweet spiciness from the bourbon cask works beautifully with the vanilla & the spice plus the caramel flav...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This amber-hued whisky offers caramel, oak and a hint of black cherry on the nose and mouth. The drying palate leads with black cherry and creamy honey, finishing taut, with leather, cigar wrapper, dark chocolate and clove heat. (KN)" (12/2017) K&L Notes: The excellent Benromach 15 year was added to the core line in 2015. It's one of the best values for old Speyside on the market today. The relatively young Mannochmore distillery was built in 1971 by Haig & Co. A stone's throw from Glenlossie and a skip, hop, jump to Longmorn, its part of a group of core workhorse malts in northern Speyside that don't get much fanfare outside of concoisseur and collectors circles. Only a tiny fraction of its production is destined for single malt production and even fewer sold as single casks. Their 3 sets of paired stills produce a fruit forward malty style of whisky that works wonders in high quality oak like this one. Distilled on February 5th of 200...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "Sweet and smoky sherry wood, like the woodsmoke from charred butts, partnered with aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, black cherry, malt loaf, and a hint of coffee grounds. This is a midnight dram, full of character and intrigue; a thick syrupy mouthfeel with black currant, cherry Dr. Pepper, clove, pepper, and black coffee, followed by Brazil nut, cassis, oak, and smoke. A lengthy, dark fruity finish sees you through till morning. (JM, Winter-2021)" K&L Notes: Distillery tasting notes: "Colour: Bright gold. Nose (undiluted): Sweet,...

Rites of Passage by Epicurean Selection has fired the opening salvo in the war for the future of independent bottling. Delivering casks of the utmost quality with respectable age stagements and carefully managed wood selection at prices that are fair is no easy task and many new bottles don't even seem to be trying on the last part. This 13 year from Mannochmore shows, more than the Blue Chip distilleries of ROP's other releass, what exactly we can look forward to in the long run. The Macallan's benchmark excellence is nowhere more evident than in the 18 year old, which is matured for a minimum of 18 years in seasoned sherry casks. Classic Macallan, with aromas and flavors of dried apricots and figs, spice, chocolate and orange zest. Made exclusively in hand-picked sherry oak casks from Jerez, Spain. Whisky Advocate: "This expression is described by the distillers as 'the heart of our range.' Matured in virgin oak, Pedro Ximénez, and oloroso casks. 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Silky and downright succulent, this Scotch is made with two types of oak casks—as the DoubleWood name suggests—but it’s really all about the influence of the ex-Sherry cask. Aromas suggest golden raisins and dried apricots. The silky palate starts out moderately smoky, but glides into a richer, honeyed, nutty profile that finishes with cocoa and clove accents. *Top 100 Spirits of 2015* (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "This ever-popular expression of Balvenie is matured for roughly 12 years in ex-bourbon casks and finished f...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "An aromatic Scotch with bright honey, pear and floral touches, this single-barrel offering features creamy custard, banana and a touch of cocoa before finishing on a baking spice note. The alcohol presence is considerable; temper it with a good dose of water and consider pairing it with a rich dessert. (KN)" (12/2013) K&L Notes: As Balvenie continues its trajectory toward Glenfiddich/Glenlivet/Macallan status, competing with Glenmorangie for a spot in the Final Four, their quality remains steadfast. 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A port cask finish gives this Scotch a copper penny hue. The aroma suggests baked apple, while the palate has a chewy, concentrated vanilla-oak profile, leading to walnut, leather and espresso. The rounded finish sings with sherry and spice. Adding water coaxes out baked apple sweetness and dials back the oak. 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "After regular maturation, this Scotch is "extra matured" in former rum casks. The end result layers rich, mouth-coating dried apricot, honey and Sherry notes on top of Balvenie's usual caramel and light peat profile. It finishes flavorful, though with a distinct burst of alcohol warmth. (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "A new addition to the permanent Balvenie range. Lovely bright gold color. Mellow honey and smooth, nutty flavors taper off into a long fade that shows vanilla, citrus, sweet spices and a hint of cocoa. (KN)" (12/2017) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Two oaks are better than one in this single malt, which marries whiskies matured in sherry-seasoned casks of both American and European oak. (KN)" (12/2015) Whisky Advocate: "Somehow this 12 year old—a mix of sherry and American oak—is overlooked by malt lovers heading straight to the mental world of a’Bunadh. Notes from the bottler: ""Precious Ride" by KT518 is the final installment of the Happy Loner series. This artwork depicts a curious cat finding solo joy on a merry-go-round ride, poised to embrace life's ups and downs. We have selected a Linkwood 15-years-old to compliment the artwork. The Linkwood has undergone a secondary maturation in a first fill oloroso sherry cask. This adds another layer of flavors to the whisky with dark chocolate, dried figs, dried dates, and herbal liquor.

90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "The bouquet is austere and leathery with curious aromas of beeswax, vegetable oil and oaky resin. Palate entry is focused on the resin; midpalate is splendidly multilayered and offers elements of black pepper, dried orange blossom, honeysuckle, dried fruit, sage, fennel and confections. Aftertaste is deep and unabashedly sweet and honeyed. *Superb, Highly Recommended*" (12/2009) Whisky Advocate: "Both bourbon and sherry casks were used for aging. The finish is lifted by a pleasing hint of lemon cream pie. Sip or mix. *Best Buy* (KN)" (12/2019) Whisky Advocate: "As with the ‘Fiddich (reviewed in this issue), here’s a malt where an improved wood policy has brought a dram to life and added complexity. The Glenlivet has always been about lightness, but the trick is to have sufficient solid base to allow its flower to blossom...
