This three-liter box is 100% Friulano (though it cannot be labeled as such because the DOC's laws do not recognize box wine, as of yet). I think there is no tastier, more versatile white wine in our store right now that beats this Bianco for value and pure drinkability. It combines the body, weight and richness of what California Chardonnay feels like with the minerality and freshness of how Pinot Grigio tastes, which just makes it the perfect cocktail white. It is ideal for keeping in the fridge (I've tasted them after they've been open for 6 months and...

93 points Wine Advocate: "First up and seriously perfumed, the 2011 Pinot Noir de Villiers is a gorgeous wine that excels both for its complexity and for its richness and breath on the palate. Giving up notes of ripe cherries, wild strawberries, exotic flowers, citron and spice, it has medium to full-bodied richness, a core of sweet fruit and a rich, seamless texture. In fact, it has a rare level of depth and texture in the vintage, and while beautiful today, I imagine it will evolve gracefully. (JD)" (08/2014) 90 points Vinous: "Bright red cherries, c...

90 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Light-medium red. Oak-spiced red berry and pomegranate on the nose, with a kiss of exotic orange peel. Sharply focused and bright, offering energetic raspberry and tangy cherry flavors and finishing with fine-grained tannic grip. Grew sweeter with air but maintained admirable focus. Pretty suave stuff. " (11/2007) K&L Notes: Note from the producer: "Planted in 1998, Ryan is named after Jim Ryan, Calera’s vineyard manager since 1979, a surprise to Jim until he saw the first vintage in bottle in 2002. The young vines from th...

91 points Vinous: "Vivid red. Pungent aromas of candied red berries, incense and botanical herbs, with a suave floral note gaining strength with air. Juicy and precise, with seamless texture and very good depth to its spicy red and dark berry flavors. Finishes sappy and long, with echoing notes of red berries and flowers. (JR)" (11/2011)

From the winery: "Kenwood Vineyards’ fourteenth Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon release features "Pink Floating Leaves on Deer Pond," a photograph by Christopher Burkett of Oregon. For the first time Kenwood has selected a photograph to grace the Artist Series label. The grapes selected for the 1988 Artist Series are a blend of the finest small lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. After harvest at optimum ripeness, vineyard lots were kept separate during fermentation in stainless steel and aged for two years in French oak barrels. The ...

91 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Exotic, herbal red berry and bitter cherry aromas offer great floral complexity and focus. Tart berry and licorice flavors are juicy and dry but filled in; finishes with excellent grip and lift. I like this Pinot's complexity and grown-up personality. (JR)" (11/2007) 90 points Wine Advocate: "The cool climate 2004 Pinot Noir Reed Vineyard exhibits a dark ruby color as well as a beautiful, sweet nose of cranberries, kirsch liqueur, and spice, and surprisingly evolved and intense fruit for a young Calera Pinot. A...

The first thing that you will notice after you have brought this box of wine home with you is that it says Rioja nowhere on it. The appellation prohibits wine being packaged in the format to carry the name Rioja. This is 100% Viura that is grown in clay limestone soils in a vineyard that was planted in 1973. Fermented and aged for a short period of time in Stainless steel. This is a bright and vibrant wine with aromas and flavors of citrus, apples and pears. Crisp and dry, this is an ideal wine for this format. An uncomplicated refreshing wine.

The first thing that you will notice after you have brought this box of wine home with you is that it says Rioja nowhere on it. The appellation prohibits wine being packaged in the format to carry the name Rioja. This red wine is a blend of mostly Tempranillo, with tiny amounts of Garnacha, Graciano, and Viura. This is a youthful and fresh red that does not see any oak aging. Dark cherries and berries that are balanced with hints of spice. Medium bodied with just enough tannin to give it some structure. This is charming old-world red that delivers surpr...

90 points Wine Spectator: "Rich and supple with ripe cherry, currant and tobacco nuances along with a soft, earthy quality on the palate. Very elegant with depth and flavor. Beautifully balanced." (09/1988) Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Siran is surprisingly powerful for the vintage, rich in fruit, elegant, long, and aromatic. It will age well..." 95 points Wine Enthusiast: " Here's one of the most ageworthy wines of the vintage. A 100% Cabernet, its grapes come from a vineyard in eastern St. Helena, off the Silverado Trail. Cab's usual blackberries and cassis are there, along with classic elements of green olives and herbs, with a funkiness that adds an umami tang. Very finely constructed, very complex, spicy and delicious. Give it six years, at least. Traditional and unwavering." (02/2018) 98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "More opulent, sexy and concentrated, the 2015 La Mission Haut Brion is a tour de force that has everything you could want from Bordeaux. A huge nose of smoke tobacco, gravelly earth, graphite, cassis, and blackcurrants gives way to a full-bodied, concentrated, perfectly balanced beauty that has incredib...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Pinot Noir Selleck Vineyard is off the hook. Coming from a warmer, south-facing plot of vines, it offers up a knockout bouquet of black raspberry, liquid flowers, crushed stone and new leather to go with a dense, concentrated, yet sexy and hedonistically slanted palate that's grounded by a core of sweet fruit. Count me a fan. This beauty should be given a handful of years in the cellar and then consumed over the following decade or more. 95 points Wine Advocate: "A deceptively medium-bodied wine, the 2009 Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard possesses stunning balance of fruit, acidity and structure, along with superb integration of the whole clusters. There is a mid-palate pliancy and richness to the 2009 that is simply breathtaking. The Mills is all about elegance. (AG)" (08/2012) 92 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "A highly perfumed array of red fruit scents are complicated by candied rose, underbrush and incense. 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Best Buy* Setting the benchmark for London dry-style gins, look for a fresh, clean scent and flavors of lemon peel and juniper, accented by white pepper, ginger, cayenne and coriander before fading to zingy lemon and a mildly sweet exit. At 47% abv it reads a little hot, but it's ideal for drinks with a bit of dilution, like a classic Gin & Tonic. (KN)" (09/2016) K&L Notes: *Gold* 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Full-bodied with an impressive and refined structure that runs deep and vertical in the wine. Chewy. Hints of chocolate and hazelnut at the end. Needs five or six years to soften." (02/2023) 96 points The Wine Independent: "A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2020 Dominus has a deep garnet-purple color. One of the most concentrated, rich, and sexy wines in the vintage, this massive and extraordinarily opulent 2020 shows the vintage's pure, elegant profile yet backs it up with sensational levels of fruit and texture. Julie Sheppard for Decanter: "Maison Courvoisier has added a new XO expression to its range of Cognacs. Courvoisier XO Royal is a blend of old Fins Bois de Jarnac and Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie. A few bottles of this rare old Cognac are preserved in Courvoisier’s Paradis cellar in Jarnac and formed the starting point for Patrice Pinet, the house’s sixth chief blender, to create the n...

The dark ruby/purple-tinged, spicy, full-bodied 2004 Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard reveals a stunningly complex nose of roasted meat, sweet red and black currants, cherries, earth, and spice. With excellent structure, acidity, and length, it should be another terrific example of this vineyard. DiSaronno is perhaps the world's best known almond-flavored liqueur. With a history dating back to 1525 A.D. and a star pupil of Leonardo da Vinci, the recipe for this classic spirit has remained secret since Domenico Reina started producing it commercially at the turn of the 20th century. Vinous: "The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is stunningly beautiful. At the same time, I have to report that the window for tasting the 2012 as a young wine appears to be closing. The density of the fruit and creaminess of the tannins are still evident if somewhat less obvious than they were a year ago, while the aromatics aren't quite as explosive as they have been in the past. The wine's depth and intensity suggest the 2012 will be fabulous once it emerges from its current period of dormancy. In this tasting, the 2012 shows a more red fruit and lifted profile than the 2013, where the flavors are darker. (AG)" (07/2016)
