93 points Tim Atkin: "No fewer than 60 micro-plots in Badarán and Cardenas, some of them dating back to 1910, make up the blend of this old-vine Garnacha. Full-bodied yet refreshing, with very understated wood, it's polished and intense, with notes of raspberry, fig and rose and energetic acidity." (06/2022) 92 points James Suckling: "A fragrant garnacha with aromas of redcurrants, pomegranate, wild strawberries, thyme, lavender and lemon grass. Some oyster shell, too. Full-bodied with sleek tannins and bright acidity. Silky and vibrant with a long, ...

Michael Cooper is the winemaker at Vinos del Viento. A native to Southern California he moved to Spain 20 years to follow his heart. Along his journey he became enamored with Garnacha. Vinos del Viento has always been about exploring and expressing the variety of Terroirs and varietals in his new home, Aragon, and its neighbor Catalonia. He has recently established his own winery after years of making wine throughout the region in other people's facilities. With a base in Campo de Borja, he has started to focus his attention there, with its old bush vine...

92 points Vinous: "The 2021 Grenache is a lighter and more ethereal expression and shows pretty clove and cranberry aromas with a backbone of earthy tones. Fresh acidity provides a vibrant start before building in texture and weight through to a lingering finish. Stalky tannins add a gentle bite. It feels not quite together and needs a couple of years to settle. (AH) " (02/2023) 91 points James Suckling: "Aromas of rosemary and thyme mix with baked cherries and blackberries. Medium-bodied with silky tannins. Mineral undertones give definition and arti...

91 points James Suckling: "Ripe and tangy nose with red cherries and strawberries with a hint of stewed herbs, stones and white pepper. Crunchy and juicy on the palate with firm tannins and a juicy finish. Garnacha. No sulfites added. Drink now." (06/2023) 91 points Wine Advocate: "The perfumed and heady 2020 Los Ángeles was produced with Garnacha from a 50-year-old plot that is worked biodynamically (but nothing is certified). It fermented with 30% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and matured in new and used barrels of different sizes and origins f...

97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2020 Grenache Distenta II is a blend of mostly 78% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and a tiny splash of Viognier. It's a ripe, sexy, insanely good barrel sample that has remarkable purity, tons of black raspberry and cassis fruits, perfect balance, full-bodied richness, and an already complex bouquet of violets, spice, and flowers. I continue to be blown away by what this estate seems to achieve with Grenache in just about every vintage." (08/2022) 97 points Wine Advocate: "I first tasted the Grenac...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lastly, the 2019 Côtes Du Rhône Villages Valréas Pure is just about all Grenache, and it's up with the finest Valréas out there. Smoking good black raspberry, kirsch, and blackberry fruits give way to more Provençal garrigue, flowers, and spice with time in the glass, and it's beautifully balanced, with silky, polished tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. It brings ample power, but it's more about finesse and elegance. It’s a gorgeous 2019 to drink over the coming decade." (11/2021)

90% Grenache, 10% Syrah, Aged 18 months in neutral and medium toast French oak barrels From the winery: "All Ojai Alisal wines are made exclusively with grapes from vineyards farmed by hand in Upper Ojai, CA. A medium body ruby colored red with flavors of cherry, red berries and plums with hints of pepper, anise and smoky herbs."
95 points Decanter: "Domaine Pierre Usseglio was founded in 1948 by Francis Usseglio, who had left Italy to work in the Châteauneuf-du Pape vineyards. Today the domaine owns 39ha of vines, of which 24ha are devoted to the red Châteauneuf. Grapes are harvested and selected manually with yields as low as 20-25hl/ha according to vintage conditions, mostly destemmed then fermented separately, and the wine is aged 12 months, half in oak foudre and half in concrete tank. Matt Walls: There is oak behind the lively, fresh fruit. Very fine, well balanced, fruity ...

90 points James Suckling: "Ripe but fresh nose with red cherries, strawberries, plums and raw spices. A rather elegant expression of garnacha from Campo de Borja with elegant red berries on the palate and a fresh streak of medium acidity. Easy to finish a glass. " (05/2022)

94 points James Suckling: "This is a delicious grenache, sourced from prodigious sites. Sandy Blewitt Springs and ferrous Clarendon, smattered with extremely old vines. This full-weighted expression delivers the low pH-infused grittiness of the vintage. The aromas are sumptuous, encompassing kirsch, peony, lilac, juniper and anise. The time on skins has been extended in recent years, as have the picking windows, necessitating separate ferments. Just a little candied rose water, detracting. The attention to detail, however, is manifest in the growing stat...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "My favorite from this estate was the 2020 Côtes du Rhône Villages Valréas Pure Grenache, a red and black-fruited, peppery, spicy, sandalwood-driven Grenache that has medium to full body, a charming, layered, graceful mouthfeel, and gorgeous tannins. This incredibly Provençal, satisfying, lengthy Grenache is well worth seeking out and should drink nicely through 2030." (03/2023) 93 points James Suckling: "Very complex nose with notes of graphite (very rare in this region!) and raw meat, plus hints of coffee bean and bitter chocol...

An incredibly friendly red from 70-year-old Garnacha vines vinified in massive large oak casks (read: fruit leads the way here). A pale pink color with aromas of red fruits and floral notes. On the palate, you will find strawberry and rose hip flavors with a hint of blood orange. Clean, and crisp with excellent acidity—harmonious and persistent. The Azul y Garanza vineyards begin in the lunar landscape of Bardenas Reales Natural Park. Founders Dani Sánchez, María Barrena and Fernando Barrena work with “landscapes”—not merely vineyards—with each of their plots enjoying as much biological diversity as this harsh climate will allow. Grenache, Syrah and Tempranillo. (TF)" (10/2023) 93 points Vinous: "The 2019 Double Lucky #8 is smoky in the glass, smoldering up with notes of olive tapenade, musky black currants and rosemary. It’s silky-smooth and supple on the palate, with brisk acidity, enlivening its dark fruits, as saline-tinged minerals add contrast. This leaves sa...

Jancis Robinson: "Ripe strawberries, red and black plums, and a light impact of the high-quality oak, with toast and smoke. The palate offers so much pleasure, with well-defined fine-grained tannins, and with the oak adding depth. I love the mineral pencil-lead finish. This is a classic wine but with a free spirit that surprised me. (FC)" (06/2021) K&L Notes: This is a 100% Garnacha rosé from Rioja Alavesa. The appellation and its 2,000 hectares of vineyard were designated in 2001 to highlight the superior quality of the region. Montsant actually wraps around the celebrated Priorat. (AG)" (09/2023) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Black cherry, strawberry compote, mace and cardamom team up for a fantastic nose on this bottling. The first thing that you will notice after you have brought this box of wine home with you is that it says Rioja nowhere on it. The appellation prohibits wine being packaged in the format to carry the name Rioja. This is 100% Viura that is grown in clay limestone soils in a vineyard that was planted in 1973. Fermented and aged for a short period of time in Stainless steel. This is a bright and vibrant wine with aromas and flavors of citrus, apples and pears. Crisp and dry, this is an ideal wine for this format. An uncomplicated refreshing wine.

Further coaxing brings forward young peach and lemon oils. This envelops the palate with ripe pit fruits and sweet spice hints. A crunchy sensation appears as saline minerals collect toward the close. The 2022 finishes perfumed and light on its feet. It shows some earthy detail through the middle, but remains sweetly soft and invitingly easy." (02/2023)

90 points Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Camino de Navaherreros is pale, light and primary. It was produced with Garnacha and 10% Tempranillo that they picked very early in a very warm summer to keep the alcohol to a moderate 13.5%. It's nicely textured, and even if it's not terribly complex, it's approachable, clean and gives a lot of pleasure. (LG)" (05/2023)

94-96 points Wine Advocate: "The blend of the 2021 Gratallops was higher in Cariñena than in the 2020 (25%), which resulted in a wine with a lower pH (3.37), the tendency that makes the 2021s more vibrant. They used some 40% full clusters for the fermentation (rather than adding the stems like in the past). The wine has acid berry freshness; and right now it's a bit difficult with the tannins and the acidity, but one more year of élevage should make it more polished. It should be long-lived and fresh. The expect some 17,300 bottles to be filled around Ap...
