Top Pick!
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Vivid, sunbaked fruit flavors and a great structure of moderate acidity and tannins balance this wine out beautifully on a high level. Blackberry and raspberry notes mingle with hints of cedar, clove and black pepper for a tasty complexity. (JG)" (12/2021)

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasted out of bottle, the 2018 Grenache Profuga is firmer and more focused than the 2019 and has deep, layered, full-bodied style as well as ample pepper, iron, and herbes de Provence like nuances all grounded by a massive core of cassis, kirsch, and assorted berry fruits. The 2018s from this estate are brilliant across the board and shine for their purity, focus, and precision. " (08/2021) 98 points Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Grenache Profuga is composed of 77.5% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 8.3% Syrah, 3.3% Petite Sirah and 0.9% Vio...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Top 100 Cellar Cellections of 2023 - This young bottling will have a long cellar life, thanks perhaps to the old-vine attributes. Aromas of amaro-like myrtle and eucalyptus leaf meet with stewed strawberry and raspberry on the nose. The palate is loaded with acid, chalky in tannins, and spicy in cracked white pepper, with a core of pomegranate and black raspberry fruit. Drink the wine now through 2032. *Cellar Selection* (MK)" K&L Notes: From 100-year old vines just outside the town of Gilroy. 4% of the blend is comprised of ...

97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2020 Grenache Distenta II is a blend of mostly 78% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and a tiny splash of Viognier. It's a ripe, sexy, insanely good barrel sample that has remarkable purity, tons of black raspberry and cassis fruits, perfect balance, full-bodied richness, and an already complex bouquet of violets, spice, and flowers. I continue to be blown away by what this estate seems to achieve with Grenache in just about every vintage." (08/2022) 97 points Wine Advocate: "I first tasted the Grenac...

98 points Wine Enthusiast: "Insanely aromatic notes of potpourri, raspberry, white pepper, soot, funk and earth are followed by bright, fresh, focused, rich fruit and savory flavors. It shows a sense of delicacy and intensity with unparalleled balance. There is no end to the finish. What makes this Grenache-driven wine so extraordinary? God only knows. *Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2019* (SS)" (10/2019) 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 God Only Knows saw a fair amount of stems (60-80%) and was brought up in neutral demi-muids and foudre. It's incredibl...

100 points Wine Advocate: "A perfect wine any way you look at it, the 2012 Grenache Rattrapante comes all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and spent 33 months in 27% new French oak. My notes start - and end - with “Wow.” Giving up tons of black raspberries, peppery herbs, licorice, dried flowers and cured meats, it’s a massively concentrated, rich and layered Grenache that somehow manages to stay graceful, lively and fresh on the palate. There are roughly 800 cases of this elixir and any Grenache lover should do their best to l...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Grenache Eleven Confessions Vineyard comes all from the estate vineyard located on the eastern side of the Sta. Rita Hills and is even more Grenache-dominated, checking in at close to 84% Grenache with 9% Syrah, 6% Petite Sirah, and the rest Viognier. Aged a whopping 38 months in 52% new barrels, it has an insane bouquet of black raspberries, herbes de Provence, violets, mulled cherries, sandalwood, and new leather. This is the inaugural release from Peter Mathis (winemaker for Ravenswood), who planted his 7.5-acre Sonoma Valley vineyard in 1999. A field blend of grenache, petite sirah, carignane and alicante bouche grown in low vigor volcanic soils with underlying basalt and rhyolite is the source of this juicy, delicious wine. The bouquet is dominated by aromas of ripe black cherries and dried cranberries followed by apricot compote, pomegranate, blackberry and strawberry flavors on the palate. The tannins are ripe, but sweet with enough structure from the additio...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Based on 100% Grenache from a handful of great sites in the Central Coast (Slide Hill, Full Draw, Bien Nacido, and Rolph vineyards), the 2020 On the Road spent a whopping 30 months in 70% new French oak. It has gorgeous black cherry, kirsch, melted licorice, and roasted garrigue-like aromatics that carry to a full-bodied, concentrated, yet broad and expansive red with ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish." (08/2023) 92 points Vinous: " The 2020 On the Road, a varietal Grenache, lifts from the glass with a...

Rita Hills and spent just under 38 months in 25% new French oak, with the balance in neutral barrels (varying sizes). 97 points Wine Advocate: "There are 533 cases of the 2014 Grenache God Only Knows Armada Vineyard, and as always, it's an unknown blend that's dominated by Grenache (reportedly from vine cuttings from Rayas). It's fermented with just about 100% whole clusters in concrete and aged mostly in neutral puncheons and foudre, with one concrete egg. A bigger, richer wine than the No Girls cuvée, this beauty packs a punch in its black cherry, reduced strawberry, herbes de Provence and crushed violet aromas and flavors. 98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2020 Grenache Head Held High brings slightly more richness and depth compared to the 2021 (at least at this stage) and is loaded with red and black fruits, peppery herbs, flowers, sandalwood, and spicy nuances. It does everything right, and it’s full-bodied, concentrated, has remarkable purity, and fine-grained tannins. This sensational Grenache is one of the finest expressions of the variety I've tasted from California. 98 points Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Grenache Sur Echalas Vineyard is stunning, wafting from the glass with a captivating bouquet that features floral top notes of roses and peony, savory nuances of rich coniferous forest floor and bouillon, overlaying a sapid base of ripe cherry and strawberry. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, immensely intense and mouthwateringly savory, with incredible complexity and stony depth. The finish is long and saline. Though Baron's Cayuse Grenache is great this year, this wine is another step up. (WK)" (06/2018) 97 po...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Grenache Distenta I, which was tasted from bottle, is cut from the same cloth as the 2020, although it's a touch more focused and elegant. Black raspberries, white pepper, new saddle leather, and beautiful floral and spicy notes all soar from the glass, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a seamless, layered mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. The blend is 76% Grenache, 9.3% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre, and the rest Petite Sirah and Viognier that saw 43.5% whole clusters and 23 months in 26% new French oak, with 6....

96 points Int'l Wine Review: "Medium cherry cored with a watery rim in the glass, the 2020 Estate Weathereye Grenache is aged in 100% neutral oak but includes approximately 40% stems during fermentation. Crushed red raspberry, mountain blueberry, candied cherry, Red Mountain herbs, Blood orange zest, and fresh linen emerge on the nose. An elegant wine that glides across the tongue and finishes with a stunning red cherry note all over the palate. Another exquisite Grenache by the Weathereye team. Highly recommended." 94-96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Châteauneu...

92 points James Suckling: "A stylish rosé with sliced peach, light cherry, mineral, dust and pomegranate character, but not over done. It’s medium-bodied with pretty fruit. Some strawberry pastry flavor, yet it remains fresh and lightly minerally. An interesting blend of mostly grenache with some cinsault and a touch of tibouren. " 92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2022 Pink Wine Les Fruits Rouges is a blend of 72% Grenache, 26% Cinsault and 2% Tibouren, which were left on skins overnight. Malolactic conversion was blocked, and the wine was matured in stain...

Erin Brooks of Wine Advocate writes: "Daou's estate vineyards (which emphasizes Bordeaux varieties) are planted at high density on steep slopes in Adelaida District in a site once singled out by the great André Tchelistcheff for its potential. Grown in these soils and in this climate, Daou's vines produce grapes with an extraordinarily high phenolic content, to which the estate's winemaking has gradually adapted. Macerations are very short, with the wines finishing fermentation in barrel, but even so these inky, structured reds don't lack for color or su...

98 points James Suckling: "This is perfumed, with dried strawberry bush, ripe cherry, star anise, black cardamom and spiced orange peel. Lots of dried-flower undertones. Its medium- to full-bodied with layers of tight but juicy tannins and bright acidity cutting through. Its so alive and vibrant, with cocoa-dusted red berries jumping out of the glass. It shows depth and power, but in an elegant way, with a delicate, ethereal feel." Mathis' Grenache hails from a small estate vineyard at the base of Moon Mountain right below the famed Monte Rosso Vineyard. The volcanic soils, varied slopes, and hand-tended organic farming mean this is some of the very best Grenache grown in California! Peter Mathis learned his craft during a 20-year stint at the iconic Ravenswood Winery. Fruit for his estate Grenache is destemmed, fermented using native yeast in small open-top tanks, and punched down by hand three times daily. The finished wine spends 28 months in neutral French oak. 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Hearty aromas of smoked meats, grilled cherries and lilacs are enhanced by graphite and iodine on the nose of this bottling. The palate lands with power and force, showing boysenberry and black plum but also more nuanced touches of elderflower and jasmine. It is hedonistic and intellectual all at once. Bid on this bottle of 2015 Sine Qua Non "E - Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache (100RP, 100VN, 98JD). Vinous: "The 2015 Grenache E, from Elaine and Manfred Krankl’s Eleven Confessions Vineyard, is stunningly beautiful. Remarkably light on its feet for such a sumptuous wine, the 2015 has so much to offer. Beautifully expressive aromatics make a strong opening impression. Dark red and purplish berry fruit, mint, sweet spice and licorice develop with air, but it is the wine’s overall feel that stands out most. At times, the E is quite powerful, while in other moments it is much more delicate. That contrast makes for an utterly captivating wine. (AG)" (06/2019)

Bid on this bottle of 2017 Sine Qua Non "The Gorgeous Victim" California Grenache (98JD, 98RP, 97VN). Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color, this wine has a very serious nose of game, fertile soil, crushed rocks and new leather over a wonderfully pure, well-defined core of crushed black cherries and ripe blackberries with wafts of unsmoked cigars and Sichuan pepper. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and built like a brick house, it has a solid backbone of firm, finely grained tannins and great acidity, finishing long and mineral laced. (LPB)" (08/2020)

Bid on this bottle of 2008 Grand Rêve "Collaboration Series V - Ciel du Cheval Vineyard" Red Mountain Grenache (94RP). Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Collaboration Series V is a blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah sourced from the Ciel du Cheval Vineyard (as are all these wines for the time being). It was aged in 100% new French oak and made by Chris Gorman. It is rare for this much new oak to be used with Grenache, but here it seems to work. The wine delivers an expressive nose of sandalwood, smoke, Asian spices, lilacs, black cherry, and black raspberry. Full-bodied and plush on the palate, it has layered spicy red and black fruits, good volume, enough structure to evolve for several years, and a lengthy, pure finish. It will be at its best from 2013 to 2023. Grand Reve Vintners is a collaboration between Paul McBride and Ryan Johnson to grow grapes and produce wine focused on the Red Mountain AVA. (JM)" (08/2010)

Bid on this bottle of 2017 Sine Qua Non "Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Central Coast Grenache (99JD, 98RP, 97VN). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Grenache Eleven Confessions Vineyard, which will be the name going forward for this wine sourced exclusively from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills, reveals a gorgeous perfume of assorted red and blue fruits as well as iron, ground pepper, Asian spices, and herbes de Provence. Based on 88.7% Grenache, 10.6% Syrah, and the rest Viognier, this full-bodied, ultra-fine, deep, layered Grenache is just about as good as it gets. Drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years. It’s worth pointing out that due to the difficulty in trademarking names today, the longer aged, 100% Eleven Confessions Vineyard Syrah and Grenache will simply bear the name “Eleven Confessions Vineyard” going forward." Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2020 Sine Qua Non "Distenta II" California Grenache ((97-100JD), 97RP, (94-96VN)). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2020 Grenache Distenta II is a blend of mostly 78% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, and a tiny splash of Viognier. It's a ripe, sexy, insanely good barrel sample that has remarkable purity, tons of black raspberry and cassis fruits, perfect balance, full-bodied richness, and an already complex bouquet of violets, spice, and flowers. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2021 Sine Qua Non "Distenta III" California Grenache ((97-99JD), (96-99VN), (96-98RP)). Vinous: "The 2021 Grenache Distenta III is one of the most refined wines I have tasted from Sine Qua Non. Floral aromatics make a strong first impression. There's plenty of SQN richness, but also less overt opulence than most vintages. I tasted this from a tank sample just prior to bottling. The 2021 is simply magnificent. I can't wait to taste it from bottle. (AG)" (09/2023)
Current Bid: $607.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2019 Fingers Crossed "Two Become One" California Grenache (97JD, 96RP, 94VN). Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Grenache Two Become One is flat-out gorgeous and shows how Grenache can be both powerful and elegant at the same time. Kirsch, darker berries, sandalwood, and spice notes define the bouquet, and it's medium to full-bodied, pure, and elegant on the palate. It doesn't have the density of the 2020, but it’s aromatic, complex, nuanced, and has fabulous length on the finish. The 2019 is 76% Grenache, 13% Mourvèdre, and 11% Syrah that saw 29% stems and 20 months in 56% new French oak (JD)." (08/2022)
