94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The NV Champagne Brut Rose is an attractive pale salmon hue, with a fresh perfume of wild strawberry, ripe peach, white and red flowers, a hint of tropical fruit, and grapefruit. The palate is rounded, with fruit up front and through the mid-palate, and it has a silky and fresh lift. There is a wonderful ease and drinkability to this wine, which delivers balance and finesse. (AF)" (11/2022) 93 points James Suckling: "A succulent, delicious and precise brut rosé, made of chardonnay, pinot meunier and pinot noir. It has notes of w...

93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of pinot character with strawberry and dried apple and some flint and matchstick, as well as stone. It’s medium- to full-bodied with freshness, a creamy texture and a long, delicious finish. 40% pinot meunier, 30% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. 28% 2019 and the rest reserve wine going back to 2006. Dosage 3g/l. " (08/2024) 92 points The Wine Independent: "Light burnished gold with a fine, evanescent bead and finished with a three gram per liter dosage, the Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve NV is a 40% Pinot Meunier, 30% Pi...

97 points Decanter: "Pure and precise with a fine bead and great balance. Classic Chenin pear and apple aromatics with a streak of lemon. Vibrantly textured with a lemony freshness and a hint of toast on the finish. (DWWA 2022)" (06/2022) K&L Notes: Maison Laudacius is an association of farmers working in the small region of Montlouis-sur-Loire. Founded in 1961 it is made up of 18 of these growers, all farming sustainably across the three villages that make up the Montlouis appellation. The soils are primarily clay-silica over the famed Turonian chal...
93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Made from 80% Pinot and 20% Chardonnay, with the base 2019 and the rest reserve wine from the past couple of years, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Bouzy Les Parcelles is expressive and fruit-forward on opening, with notes of cherry blossom, fresh peach, and honeycomb. With zero grams per liter dosage, there’s no lacking for ripeness and freshness. Long on the palate and quite inviting, it’s going to be wonderful drinking over the coming 8-10 years. (AF)" (11/2023) 91 points Decanter: "From the 2019 vintage-based edition, Pailllard’s...

We only received 300 bottles of this all Pinot Blanc rarity from Lamoureux, an all- estate-grown Champagne from Les Riceys, just three miles from the border with Burgundy. This comes from a half-acre parcel that only yields one press load each year, but sadly in some years yields nothing as Pinot Blanc buds early and is prone to early frost. This has seen three years of aging on the lees and has some very nice toasty quality to go with the exotic fruit of the Pinot Blanc. Best of all, this broad, rich Champagne finishes dry but not austere. (Gary Westby,...

This Champagne is composed of two-thirds Pinot Noir and one-third Chardonnay. The Champagne has a graceful, delicate balance that Verzenay wines sometimes lack but with the signature hazelnut Pinot core. I found it to have creaminess to complement its racy cherry fruit on the palate and an extraordinarily long, dry finish. It is dosed at 9 grams per liter: very dry! It will age very well. The Arnoulds own 27 acres in the village of Verzenay, a quite sizable holding in this high-rent area. It is planted to 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, which is avera...

Elisabeth Goutorbe and her husband Jean-Marie Egrot run their tiny production Champagne house almost entirely by themselves. They get very little help from their cat Maurice, but can rely on Elisabeth’s father, René Goutorbe of Champagne Henri Goutorbe for a little bit of help. Of the 15 acres they own in Ay, Louvois, Tauxieres and Mutigny, they only keep the fruit from their 2.5 best—mostly in Ay, but also a touch of Louvois Chardonnay for balance. Their home straddles the border of Ay and Mutigny, two great terroirs in the Gand Valley of the Marne, whi...

100 points James Suckling: "This is really something. Electric on the palate. The aromas are so complex with sliced fresh and dried ginger, subtle pie crust, tarte tatin and hints of nutmeg with some salted caramel. Toasted bread, too. Always subtle. The palate is full- to medium-bodied yet hemmed-in with a freshness and balance that draws you back. Savory and vibrant. It's full of energy. Spectacular. Fascinating." (07/2023) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Tautly textured, the Champagne is delicious with a poise between white and citrus fruits along with ...

Alexandre Le Brun is the smallest producer that we import (or even carry) from Champagne at just 7.5 acres. He only makes wine from half of the grapes he brings in, selling the rest off to negociants; his production totals just one thousand cases a year. This tiny scale allows Alex to do nearly everything himself and this hands-on approach shows through in the finished product. He only uses his own estate fruit for his Champagne, and this wine comes from just two rows in the grand cru of Chouilly, in a plot called La Derriere du Mont Aigu. This is electr...

This single vineyard, 100% Meunier champagne comes from the oldest and best plot of Thierry Thibault's estate, La Croix St. Remy in the fabled-for-meunier village of Verneuil. The over fifty year old parcel is vinified in stainless steel and was aged for six years on the lees and then more than a year on the cork. Thierry's father was the chef de cave at Charles Heidsieck, and was a huge believer in post disgorgement ageing. The results are fantastic- a rich tarte tatin nose and mid palate, filled with Meunier personality but free of any rustic flavors, ...

This Champagne used to be called Elisabeth Goutorbe Cuvée Éclatante. Elisabeth changed the name over to her married name Egrot when she and her husband moved out of her parents' facility in Aÿ, and into their own. It is a 100% estate-grown, direct-import gem. It is a blend of two thirds Pinot Noir and one third Chardonnay, mostly from the grand crus of Ay and Louvois and including some from the premier crus of Tauxieres and Mutigny. Dosage is a little under 8 grams per liter. This wine has the silky texture and tiny streamers that only patience brings. ...

This Champagne comes from one plot of 70-year-old Chardonnay vines in the Montagne of Reims village of Trepail. It is aged for three years on the lees. The Champagne has a chalky, creamy, bread bakery-esque nose, and a concentrated impression on the palate. As one would expect from such ancient vines, it delivers the goods on the finish with plenty of chalk as well as a bit of honey and white fruit. This makes a perfect aperitif, but will also pair well with seafood such as seared scallops or even raw oysters. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

95 points Decanter: "If it’s good enough for James Bond, it’s good enough for you. Bollinger Champagne has made a number of cameos in James Bond films over the year. This non-vintage Special Cuvée is an example of a classic Champagne done well. Notes of marzipan on the nose and the palate give toastiness and leesy notes, specifically sourdough. It’s classic for a reason and would only elevate any table it finds itself on. 92 points Burghound: "If you enjoy overtly yeasty Champagne this would make a good choice as there is plenty of it here framing the relatively elegant nose that combines notes of citrus, white flowers, pear and apple scents that display wisps of secondary development. The old vines definitely are in evidence here with fine mid-palate density that is supported by a moderately fine mousse, all wrapped in a delicious, sappy and lingering finish. This isn't a particularly refined example but I quite like it for its complexity and clear concentration." (10/20...

Mas Codina is a 40-hectare estate in Alt Penedès which dates back to 1681. This Gran Reserva Cava was hand-harvested from 25- to 40-year-old vines and estate-bottled. Vines are planted in calcareous and sandy clay soils which keep the wine minerally and lively. Varietals include Macabeo, Xarel-lo, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. 100% hand-riddled, it has spent over 30 months on its lees and is bottled with no dosage.

This Champagne is produced exclusively from estate grown fruit and is composed of 80% Meunier and 20% Pinot Noir which is aged for three years on the lees. It has great natural richness, and fantastic red cherry zing, but finishes quite dry and bright. -Gary Westby, K&L Wine Buyer

This wonderful vintage Champagne is composed exclusively from old-vine selection massal Pinot Meunier. The two plots it comes from are Les Chaillots, planted in 1970, and Les Jenne Craux, planted in in 1969. The dosage is kept low, at six grams per liter, and it has both power and also refreshment.

If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger, and Krug in the past, I think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. This is a great party Champagne, since it is full of flavor yet refreshing and moreish. The hazelnut Pinot character, so unique to the village of Verzenay, is pronounced in this wine, and many good tasters have mistaken it for barrel fermentation (it is...

98 points John Gilman: "The 2015 Louis Roederer Cristal is composed this year from a cépages of sixty percent pinot noir and forty percent chardonnay, with twenty-five percent of the vins clairs raised in oak barrels. As is customary, the still wines do not go through malolactic fermentation for Cristal and the wine was finished with a dosage of seven grams per liter in this vintage, after aging nearly seven years sur lattes. It delivers a beautifully refined aromatic constellation of apple, nectarine, a superbly complex base of chalky minerality, a touc...

97 points Decanter: "The 172ème édition, based around the 2016 vintage, is a delicate, floral and saline Grande Cuvée at this early stage in its life. The palate it taut, tightly wound, gradually unfurling into toasted fruit bread, rye bread and roasted nuts, wrapped around an intricate and taut lemon core. It's exceptionally long, spicy, rounded and spherical in shape. Notes of sweet unsalted butter round out the finish, which has such length, elegance and balance. 58% of the wine is from the 2016 vintage, which saw a lot of rain in the spring and close...

This great bottle comes from the far northern edge of Champagne in the Massif St-Thierry, north of Reims. All of the vines for this 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Meunier cuvée come from Cormincy, the last village in Champagne before the flats facing out towards the Ardennes. As one would expect from a Blanc de Noir, this is a full-bodied wine with plenty of savory red fruit flavor. Due to its far northern provenance, this Champagne also has great snap and refreshment to balance out its power. - Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Made from a blend of vintages from 2007 to 2015, this Champagne shows maturity as well as rich red apple and lemon-zest flavors. With its strong mineral edge, the wine is textured and now ready to drink. (RV)" (06/2020) K&L Notes: The Louis Victor from Coutelas is made in the solera style, from one large barrel containing a perpetual blend. Coutelas lists this as composed of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Meunier, and Pinot Noir, but in fact, it is refreshed with 1/4 of the best wine vinified in a given year, while another 1/4 is take...

Although not labeled as such, this is a Blanc de Noir composed of 60% Meunier and 40% Pinot Noir. It is aged for over four years on the lees and dosed at about ten grams per liter. This is one of the most exciting small estate Champagnes that we stock, and it hails from just a few miles north of the border of Burgundy in Les Riceys. It is composed of 100% Pinot Noir, 50% of which is reserve stocks. All of the wine is fermented in stainless steel in a clean, racy style. The soil in Les Riceys is almost identical to the soil in Chablis, and the wine has a dry finish that is as mineral-driven as the wines from Chablis. -Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

In the part of Champagne known most for Pinot Noir, there is a magical place called La Perle Blanche de la Montagne de Reims, the east-facing slope of this small but prominent hill. The first village of this sub-region is the Premier Cru of Trépail, where the Petiau family tends to a small but exceptional vineyard. In the past, this family ran the nursery for the surrounding area, and like many of the best producers in Champagne, they have continued to nurture their own massal selection of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, choosing not to use the earlier ripeni...

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth generation winemaker whose family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and built their cellars in 1822. This bottling is simply great! It is a 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that spent an incredible eight years on the lees! It is full, rich and creamy with a lush character. The Chardonnay comes through on the finish with bright green apple fruit and a touch of minerality.

San Venanzio has won many awards over the years. At K&L they get the coveted "Guido" award of two thumbs up and three stars for value. The palate is rich and creamy, with pretty fruit closely mirroring the nose and admirable fullness and length. This is balanced, elegant, and an excellent apéritif. 9.0 grams/liter (RS)

Mas Codina is a 40-hectare estate in Penedès, which dates back to 1681. This Brut Rosé consists of Pinot Noir grown in their own vineyards in the middle Penedès region. They have been working organically for the past several years, and their first harvest doing so with certification was 2017. Initial gun smoke notes morph into more opulent aromas like honeyed apple, citrus peel and toasted hazelnut. The rapier acidity is cheek sucking and tongue-tingling but lends freshness to the creamy textural weight and adds to the long, tangy finish. All elegance and class, this is highly food friendly but also totally delicious on its own. (CP) " (05/2023) 92 points Vinous: "The NV Brut from Wiston has been a go-to English spa...

This all estate grown, 100% Pinot Noir champagne comes from Les Riceys, one of the southernmost villages in Champagne. It is the same wine as the reserve, but with an extra year of ageing and without any sugar added. It was the biggest discovery of my March trip to the Aube, but unfortunately only 4000 bottles were produced. This wine has great baguette toast, subtle pinot noir fruit and a great mineral finish that shows off how close this estate is to Chablis. The minerality and length are amazing, and even though it has zero dosage, the 50% reserve win...
