Writer Dan Berger praised this wine in 1990s in the Los Angeles Times...please note, prices may have changed! "For those who can't find or afford the Special Selection, a superb approximation of it is Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet, which recently leaped in price from $18 to $22 because of demand. (Some stores may not yet have marked bottles up.) The 1985 and 1986 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernets are spectacular wines in their own right, both of which will age handsomely for a decade or more. If you feel $22 is a bit high for a Cabernet, consider this: I have t...

1985 Angélus, St-Émilion
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Spectator: "Intense and already complex, with lots of spice, toffee and coffee elements to the blackberry fruit, supple texture, distinctive and full of personali ty. Distinguished and elegant. *Cellar Selection*" (03/1988) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 is a seductively smooth, supple, broadly flavored wine with aromas and flavors of berry fruit and herbs. Full-bodied, concentrated, and delicious... (RP)" (08/1993)

1985 Soutard, St-Émilion
Back In Stock!
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Soutard is a sensationally rich, tannic, deep, multidimensional wine that balances muscle and grace. It is more supple than usual, but still capable of 20 or more years of longevity. (RP)" (01/1998) Wine Spectator: "Plenty of flavor with ripe currant, plum and chocolate flavors, but it's a bit soft and fleshy at mid-palate. The tannins are gentle but firm, with the flavors carrying through on the finish." (05/1988)

Bid on this bottle of 1985 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir. Established in 1948 by Ambassador James Zellerbach on a plot of land in the Mayacamas Mountains, Hanzell Vineyards has been dedicated to growing Grand Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay ever since. While the vineyard has changed hands a couple of times, and the original six acres of vineyards has grown to 42, the wines have proven cellar-worthy through the years. The Hanzell Pinot Noirs of the mid-20th century are quintessential examples of the classic style of California Pinot Noir. Hanzell's original estate vineyard plantings of Pinot Noir were some of the first in California and are the now the oldest. From the winery: "An estate blend, sourced from twelve acres of our Ambassador’s 1953, de Brye and Sessions vineyard blocks, all on rocky clay-loam soils..."

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1985 La Maison Rouget Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Beaumonts" (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "While there is the initial hints of bricking, the nose is still quite fresh with pretty spice, stone and secondary fruit aromas leading to rich, detailed and equally mineral-driven middle weight flavors that culminate in a focused, delicious, mouth coating and impressively lingering finish. I very much like the underlying sense of harmony and overall balance and unlike many '85s that are tiring today, this is going to be with us for years to come." (10/2010)
Starting Bid: $240.00

Bid on this bottle of 1985 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (99JS, 94JG). James Suckling: "What an awe-inspiring nose of currants, shaved lead pencil, white truffles and earth. It's full-bodied and enveloped by silky tannins that lead to an earthy, long finish. Old, traditional Bordeaux with soul and remarkable complexity. Sensational. " (10/2015)
