1989 d'Yquem Sauternes (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Jane Anson: "This took home the audience award at the 67 Pall Mall tasting that I was hosting, with good reason. What a brilliant example of why Sauternes should be left to gather nuance and to shed its more exuberant, fattier early years before opening. This is just a masterclass in the layers and complexity that you find in fully mature Yquem; saffron, truffle, pineapple, quince, lime, apricots and lemon. Hugely persistent with a squeeze of scraping slate acidity through the final few minutes that gives a dry but mouthwatering finish. It is ...

95 points Wine Advocate: "Though Sigalas-Rabaud 2010 was extremely promising out-of-barrel, I never expected that it would trump d’Yquem in a blind tasting once in bottle. It has an engaging, pure and lifted bouquet with scents of lemon curd, honey, ripe oranges and quince that are extremely well-defined. The palate is well-defined with a fine line of acidity, crisp mineralite and tension. This is very composed and tightly wound, a Sauternes probably built for the long-term and not giving too much away now. Yet the class is already tangible. This is one ...

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought 2 hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wines ...

93 points Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous." (12/1988) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Medium ruby-red. Aromas of milk chocolate, plum, mint and violet. Full-bodied, with medium sweetness and lots of berry and cherry fruit. Very fr...

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ruby-colored, with grape, dark chocolate and plum. Full and chewy. Tannins are still there and need to mellow. Medium-sweet and grapey. A little one-dimensional still, but impressive. (JS, Web-2008)" (02/2008) 90 points Wine Advocate: "This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop … they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1985 is the sweetest and richest of the recent War...

Established over 50 years ago, the 4th generation of the Denis family now runs this operation. Julien is the winemaker, Stephane in charge of the viticulture and Vincent oversees the administration and sales. Over the last decades the property has grown from 5 to 80 hectares that stretch across the appellation including some very select parcels in the Côteaux du Layon (home of one of the region's great dessert wines).

2011 Suduiraut, Sauternes (375ml)
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "The dried-mango and pineapple character is so delicious in this wine. It’s full-bodied and medium-sweet, with a pretty density and a fruity finish. Wonderful balance to this super Sauternes. This is a little in reserve now, with so much for the future." (10/2014) 96 points Wine Spectator: "A big, broad, powerful style, with piecrust, roasted almond and hazelnut cream notes framing the core of apricot, creamed peach and dried mango. Picks up extra fig and pear details through the toasty finish. Needs a bit of time to finish so...

98 points Wine Advocate: "The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer. (RP)" (11/2015) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "One of the world's best PX wines is Solera 1927, the pride of Alvear. Whatever solera stocks went into this bottling...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The 1994 Vintage Port is going to be re-released. It has about 100 grams per liter of residual sugar. With a big eucalyptus note up front, this is elegant in the mid-palate with controlled tannins. Sweet and easy in some ways, this is readily approachable now, perhaps not at peak, but more expressive than the relatively brooding Dow's, also reviewed. The hint of caramel and raisins mixed with sugar makes this irresistible. It is sexy and intriguing. (MS)" (10/2016) 95 points Vinous: "The 1994 Graham’s Vintage Port, which incid...

96 points Wine & Spirits: "A PX from ten-year-old soleras, this is deliciously creamy. It combines raisined grape flavors with scents of figs and chestnuts, while subtle acidity plays in the background. The complexity develops further in the glass, building toward notes of chocolate, cinnamon and exotic spices." (10/2013) 90 points Wine Advocate: "The NV El Candado Pedro Ximenez, produced from sun-dried Pedro Ximenez grapes for two weeks, and aged in a solera for an average of 8-10 years, is bottled with 400 grams of sugar and 17% alcohol. Mahogany col...

2001 d'Yquem, Sauternes (750ml) (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "This is so layered and intense on the palate with lemons and dried pineapple, mango and honey. Full body, very sweet, but it remains tangy and vibrant. Shows such amazing balance and intensity. Crazy finish. Hints of vanilla and apple purée. One of the greatest Yquems ever. All about purity here." (07/2013) 100 points Wine Advocate: "I have had the very good fortune to taste the 2001 d'Yquem perhaps a dozen times since its release and have never been less than absolutely floored by its combination of poise, purity, precision...

91 points Vinous: "The 1980 Taylor's Vintage Port has a deep, clear garnet colour. The nose is very backward, quite austere and conservative with notes of cherry and raspberry leaf, a touch of cigar box developing with aeration. It perhaps lacks a little joie-de-vivre, especially when compared to vintages in the 1970s. The palate is attractive though, with notes of raspberry, plum, white pepper, blood orange and a touch of apricot. This 1980 has good acidity but plays it safe, unwilling to take chances. Yet there is perceptible lushness on the finish wit...

2022 Schloss Johannisberg Grünlack Riesling Spätlese Rheingau (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
99 points James Suckling: "The nose of this Spatlese makes me think of 18th century engravings of pear and white peach varieties, but that only hints at the enveloping and astonishingly fine fruit that follows on the palate. A masterpiece of finesse, precision and balance, but even that doesn’t say the most important thing, which is the breathtaking leafy freshness and stony clarity at the stunningly long finish. When will it ever stop? From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." (07/2023) K&L Notes: 94pts Fallstaff Magazine: "Fine, mineral-driven n...

Haut Charmes is a very special Sauternes bottling, made from the younger vines of one of the most famous properties in the Sauternes region. While we aren't allowed to actually reveal the source, it's safe to say its location in the Ciron Valley exposes the Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon fruit to conditions perfect for the development of botrytis. Charming, elegant and an exceptional value for what's in the bottle. A rich wine with fine acidity, the 2017 has wonderful pineapple and coconut aromas that carry through onto the lush palate. A stunning wine jus...

93 points Wine Advocate: "This is more mature in appearance than the -80 with a light brick rim. Again, the nose is tight and conservative with notes of raspberry leaf, plum, freshly tilled earth and dried fig. Perhaps it just lacks a little personality. The palate is more austere than the -80 but it has more concentration and structure, more masculine. Notes of blackberry, cassis, cherry- and black olive with a dash of white pepper on the finish. This is a quietly impressive Taylor's with a lovely, supple finish. Very fine. Tasted November 2007. (NM)" (...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A brilliant sweet wine that tops out on my scale, the 2001 Château D'Yquem is now fully mature yet still vibrant and pure, with an incredible nose of honeyed marmalade, caramelized tropical fruits, rising bread, marzipan, and lavender. Incredibly complex, full-bodied, and unctuous on the palate, it's one of those rare wines that can deliver incredible richness and decadence while staying pure, light on its feet, and perfectly balanced. A wine that every wine lover should taste once in their life, it should be just about immortal....

94 points Vinous: "The 2012 Vin Santo is compelling, as it so often is. Caramel, honey, brown sugar and kirsch are some of the many notes that build effortlessly. In 2012, the Vin Santo is not quite as opulent as it can be, but that is probably a good thing in this case. (AG) " (06/2023)
Price: $84.99

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep golden yellow. Varietally expressive aromas of orange zest, rose oil and smoke. Powerful, full-bodied and brooding, and still in need of time to digest its oak spice. Tannins give this wine a velvety texture. Lingering flavors of minerals and rose. This calls for a good five years of patience. Drink 2011 to 2025."

93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. A rich, complete wine, this has beautiful acidity as well as the most intense botrytis character. It’s a wine with long-term aging potential, ripe and already full in the mouth. (RV)" (03/2014) 92-94 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Bright, pale yellow-gold. Reticent but extremely pure, floral aromas of fresh tropical fruit salad, sweet spices and vanilla, lifted by mineral and lemony botrytis nuances. Wonderfully honeyed, pristine tropical and fresh citrus fruit flavors are complemented by clove and nutmeg. H...

97 points Decanter: "Probably the best wine from a good, ripe though rather variable vintage: still deep at the centre with a thin tawny rim; lovely ripe plummy aromas, open but still brooding with more to reveal; ripe and fleshy on the palate with glorious plum and cherry fruit backed by firm ripe tannins leading to a powerful finish. Ready to drink now and will keep and develop in bottle for another thirty years at least! 95 points James Halliday: "Blended from wines aged for a decade or more in oak (up to 15 years). Fabulous concentration here, as per the house style, while also establishing real elegance and spirit freshness. It's a fine balance to achieve and it's quite effortless in nougat, orange peel, raisin freshness with dark chocolate and creamy caramels. Long, unwavering finish. *Gold* (JP) " (08/2022)

94 points Wine Spectator: "Nectar-like if a bit on the sweet side, impressively complex, concentrated and focused. Deep gold, big, sweet and rich, with gobs of concentrated fig, brown sugar, butterscotch and oak flavor. A knockout." (12/1988) 92 points Wine Advocate: "Light golden with just the slightest tint of green, the 1983 Rieussec, from an excellent year for Sauternes, is certainly one of this property's greatest wines. Well structured with excellent acidity, and a deep, long, rich, full-bodied, viscous texture, this wine, despite the richness an...

Complex nose melds refreshing mandarin zest, gooseberry and discreet snow pea aromas, along with a pleasant grapey character. 2009 Doisy-Daëne "L'Extravagant" Sauternes (375ml)
Back In Stock!
98 points Wine Advocate: "Pale to medium gold colored, the 2009 L'Extravagant drifts sensuously from the glass with evolving notions of burnt sugar, apple pie, crème caramel and praline plus hints of honey-coated walnuts and powdered ginger. Very sweet, rich, full-on unctuous and densely laden in the mouth, the palate possesses almost electric freshness supporting layer after layer of dried fruit and nut notions, finishing very long. It won’t cellar for as long as some of the 2009s, but this sure is delicious right now. (LPB)" (03/2019) 95-98 points Vi...

One of Sauternes original estates, Château de Carmes de Rieussec occupies 227 acres of prime territory in the heart of Bordeaux's sweet wine country. The 2019 vintage was one of the warmest in recent memory in Bordeaux, yet the Sémillon at Rieussec still developed ample botrytis to yield an ultra-aromatic and age-worthy Sauternes. After pressing, the wine was fermented and kept on the lees with regular stirring until December, after which time it was aged in oak barrels for roughly 12 months before bottling.

90 points Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Late Bottled Vintage Port is a typical Douro blend bottled in 2022 with a bar-top cork and 104 grams of residual sugar. This takes the lively Croft 2016, another of the Fladgate Group's houses, and adds a little depth. More importantly, it adds waves of flavor. It is well balanced and just delicious. The structure is average. On the other hand, while very well balanced, it is not quite as lively. Pick 'em. These can hold, but bottle development is not the same with filtered LBVs, so there is little reward to doing so. D...

92 points Wine & Spirits: "This is a selection from botas of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez raised separately and then blended to age for three years in solera. The result puts the sweetness of the PX in front, with flavors of plum jam and tobacco. The salinity of the Oloroso brings freshness and fine minerality that play softly in the background. Beautiful wine. *#15 Top 100 Wines of 1997* (JS)" (04/1997) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 1994 Vintage Port is pure finesse and elegance. 94 points Wine & Spirits: "Although most Sherry producers offer PX wines, there is, in fact, very little pedro ximénez planted in Jerez, Sanlúcar and El Puerto. Most of the vines are in Montilla-Moriles, where the grapes can produce both super-sweet and concentrated wines, as well as Finos that are both very dry and very ripe. This Oloroso, aged more than 30 years in botas, is intensely saline and earthy, with complex nutty flavors. It is very dry, yet generous and ripe, a vibrant wine that would go well with braised lamb." (10/2015) 92 points Wine Adv...

Taylor Fladgate "Golden Age" 50 Year Old Tawny Port
Back In Stock!
97 points Wine Advocate: "The NV 50 Year Old Tawny Port is a field blend bottled with a bar-top cork in 2022 and with 158 grams of residual sugar. Mature, with dark chocolate nuances, this is rich, deep and sensationally delicious. The concentration is exceptional too. Then, there's the long, long finish, filled with fruit and sugar. It is irresistible, in addition to being nuanced and complex. It's young enough so that it is never just a curiosity. The fruit is certainly not cracking. (MS)" (08/2022)

Jancis Robinson: "Blend of Furmint and Hárslevelu. TA 7.3 g/l, RS 154 g/l. Apple crumble and cream. One tiny sniff of a glass of this, and I can feel my shoulders relaxing into childhood memories. That soft glow of comfort sweetness. On the palate, a broad, generous, late-harvest abundance of apples that taste as if they're tumbling yellow and pink and rose-tinted gold through honey and cinnamon-scented pear juice. Then a slow tingle of acidity. A tingle that holds, vibrates like a harp string, moves along the spine of the wine and the spine of you until...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Chateau D’Yquem is pure magic and dessert wines don’t get much better. Offering a pale gold color as well as a blockbuster bouquet of honeyed tangerines, tart apricots, liquid rocks, white flowers, and honeysuckle, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, an opulent texture, vibrant acidity, and again, an incredible sense of minerality, despite having no shortage of sweetness or richness. The 2016 is a classic blend of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon that hit 14.2% alcohol with 135 grams of residual sugar. It’s alread...

Wine Advocate: "The NV Reserve Tawny Port was bottled in August 2015 with a bar top cork. It comes in at 123 grams per liter of residual sugar. Sugary on the finish, it is quite delectable and very focused. Emphasizing the sweetness and easy drinking, it doesn't have a lot of depth or power, but there's more than enough for the level. The alcohol does burble up here and there, but overall it drinks well in an accessible style. There is no reason this can't hold if you must, but it is not designed to be held and it doesn't need to age. Dive in. (MS)" (12/...

94 points Wine Advocate: "The 1978 Colheita Tawny Port was bottled in 2015 with 119 grams per liter of residual sugar and a bar top cork (typical for the house). It is very graceful for its age, finishing with a wave of sweetness, fruit and sugar. Emphasizing the caramel more than the molasses, this is irresistibly delicious, but it becomes more complex and puts on weight as it airs and warms. The wine shows off its power and hints of Brandy on the rather tense finish, too. Overall, this is a beauty that becomes more impressive the longer you sit with it...

There’s brisk, tart peach flavor along with more mature tones of pale berries and woodsy mushrooms. Hints of tobacco smoke add to the wine’s elegance." (12/2015) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Racy and fresh, with detailed green fig, dried cherry, incense and hazelnut notes. Offers a long, focused finish.
