If you didn't already know, we're huge fans of the bucolic Blair Athol distillery just outside the highland resort town of Pitlochry. The stone walls covered in ivy at this, the spiritual home of the Bell's Blended Scotch, are one reason we love this exceptional whisky. If you do manage to make it to this special distillery, you might notice giddy septuagenarian fans of the UK only Bell's Blend swarming the small distillery like it was vatican, but it is the VIP warehouse tour that keeps us going back. That's because nothing beats Blair Athol straight fr...

In 2013 brothers Simon and Philip Thompson began bottling whisky in their hometown of Dornoch. Two years later, they renamed their business Dornoch Distilling, and started distilling whisky soon after. They also produce special bottlings of aged rums and whiskies. They are now one of Scotland's most exciting bottlers having garnered much admiration and praise from inside and out of the industry. They've managed to access high-quality stocks at very reasonable prices. We're incredibly lucky to have access to a small portion of their exemplary stocks, whic...

Since 2002 Domaine Séailles is officially certified as organic in all of their wine and Armagnac production. They've foresworn chemicals pesticides and artificial fertilizers and instead opt for a biodynamic approach. While the brandies that have been made this way are still quite young by many Armagnac standards, they are lively, bright, and delicious in their own right (not to mention showing tremendous aging potential). If you're looking for a punchy young Armagnac with crystal-clear fruit and excellent pedigree, combined with a stewardship of the env...

Jim McEwan: "Colour - Primrose Yellow. Aromas - The Islay Maritime overture in harmony with the warm peat smoke drift leaves you in no doubt where this spirit was born and raised! The sweetness from the toasted barley works well with the mellowness of oak with just a hint of spice from the bourbon residue. A harmonious bouquet seeded with the sea air & the character of the men who made it in the traditional way. Palate - Soft fruits created by the yeast during distillation over a decade ago emerge and together with malt extract and the sweetness of the...

The wonderful old distillery in Trewlawny was once one of the true great rum distillers. Founded in 1753, it was one of the surviving sugar estates and remains one of the most traditional distillers on the island. Owned by a complex partnership called National Rums of Jamaica, a joint venture between the Jamaican government, Maison Ferrand (via Goddard Enterprises Ltd/W.I.R.D.), Demerara Distillers Limited and Diageo. In 2012, the distillery was forced to shut down due to a tank leakage and didn't become operational again until 2015. This rum is one of t...

Dailuaine is a robust and characterful malt. At just 9 years old, this 200ml bottling from Old Malt Cask's Advance Sample line is mighty expressive. Very long fermentations and an attenuated copper contact result in a beefy spirit that provides much of the stuffing in Diageo's famous blends. It's so important, that Diageo rarely releases Dailuaine as a single malt. Fortunatley for us, it's a relatively easy dram to get on the independent bottling market as many distilleries and bottlers will trade their own stocks to get a hold of Dailuaine. As such, we ...

The long and complicated history of BenRiach includes an optimistic vision, a long closure, a rebirth, a short closure, and finally, a modern renaissance - of which we are now in full swing. Built in 1897 by John Duff, BenRiach sits next door to Duff's hugely successful Longmorn distillery. BenRiach boasts a huge floor malting facility and five on-site, traditional, stone-walled and earthen-floored dunnage warehouses. It is one of the most traditionally-styled distilleries in all of Scotland. Sadly, shortly after it was built, the market fell out of Scot...
