The domaine, located in Château-Chalon, was founded in 1850 and today consists of 12 hectares of vines in both the Côtes du Jura and Château-Chalon appellations. Laurent Macle is the current generation in charge at the domaine, which produces white wine of Savignin and Chardonnay. Macvin du Jura was awarded appelation controlee status in 1991, and it produces powerful vin de liqueur wines by arresting the fermentation of the grape juice and adding already-pressed grapes, or marc. This aperitif wine has been in production since 1865. It was also an early sponsor of the Tour de France, and the bittersweet concoction stimulates the appetite. From the importer: "It is made by an infusion of gentian, cinchona (quinine), and renowned herbs of the Grand Chartreuse mountains in a mistelle base. Traditionally enjoyed neat or with a twist; also may enhance classic drinks in place of sweet red vermouth."
