Ransom's full production line offers tremendous value and an incredible glimpse into spirits of the past when nearly everything was done in house. Their Old Tom GIn is the most popular old tom in our store, but their classic gin deserves every bit as much attention. Distilled from malted two row barley that is grown, fermented, and distilled on the 40 acre farm in Oregon, it has a weight and texture unlike nearly any other gin on the market. The botanical infusion is juniper and grain forward and the local botanicals include marionberries and hops. At 8...

After what feels like an absence of years Cranberry LIqueur from Clear Creek is back! Only available in 375ml format currently. Just in time for the holiday season, legendary Oregon fruit distiller Steve McCarthy brings you his best liqueur yet: Clear Creek Cranberry. This is not the sugary-sweet, syrupy substance you probably are expecting. This cranberry liqueur captures the pure tart and tangy essence of the berry itself, with just enough sweetness to balance it out. It's juicy, supple, and incredibly addicting. It's going to blow you away and it's go...

Originally a mysterious oddity only known to the hardest of the hardcore Kentucky bourbon fanatics, Black Maple Hill rode the popularity explosion in craft whiskey to its demise—almost. As the boom peaked, along with BMH's prices, the supply of their confidential, age-stated whiskeys essentially dried up and Black Maple Hill exited the market, it seemed. Undaunted, the brand's owner sought far and wide for new supply, and he found his diamond in the rugged and rough high plains of northeastern Oregon—the Steins family farm and distillery. Originally a gr...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This topaz-hued Old Tom is sweetened with organic honey. The bold, sweet aroma suggests maple syrup, almond and allspice, while the palate opens with peppery heat, leading into flashes of juniper, citrus and cardamom. Mix into Martinez variations. (KN)" (03/2023) K&L Notes: Ransom Spirits is an artisanal distillery in Sheridan, Oregon, run by Tad Seestedt and Ari Walker. Their Old Tom gin is made on an alembic pot still, and is a historically accurate replication of what people were drinking in the 1800s during the golden ag...

A beautiful and unique Pacific Northwest "terroir" brandy from Steve McCarthy's Hood River Oregon distillery, Clear Creek. Inspired by an obscure Alsatian distillate called Eau de Vie de Bourgeons de Sapin, this tree spirit was 10 years in the making. McCarthy infused a clear brandy with springtime buds from a Douglas Fir, then redistilled it, then infused it again with more buds. The liquor is then strained and bottled. Greenish in hue, this smells and tastes like the woods. Wow! Spiced and pure with juniper, forest floor, fresh wood, Christmas tree and...

Ransom's Bourbon has been in production since 2008 when they first barreled down their solera system. The unique four grain mashbill comes from grain grown on their organic farm and includes roughly 2/3s corn and a balance of malted barley, rye and wheat. The average age of the solera is about 5 years old and it is uniquely distilled on their direct fire Cognac Alembic stills imported from France. There is simply no other Bourbon like it on the market, but most importantly, it tastes delicious and is well priced to boot.

This wonderful barrel of whisky was distilled on January 4th of 2016 at the original Clear Creek facility in Portland before being filled into refill Oregon oak at a filling proof of 55% abv. Like all McCarthy's whisky it was double distilled on small copper pots from heavily peated Scottish barley, fermented naturally and bottled without the use of additives or chillfiltration. The barrel would have been transferred shortly after barreling to the new Hood River distillery location where it aged for more than 6 years in the unique Cascadian climate. Harv...

Freeland Bourbon is Indiana's finest combined with a Pacific Northwest twist. The bourbon gets finished in Portland in Pinot Noir barrels from Elk Cove. This additional aging in wine barrels imparts a slightly exaggerated pepper spice and gentle floral notes to a bourbon that is all full of soft caramel, vanilla and coffee. The ladies at Freeland have done a great job paying homage to Grandma Freeland.

While we've spent years singing the priases of the small but excellent California Brandy traditions that have grown up on the backs of visionaries like Germain-Robin, Osocalis, and St George. We are thrilled to be able to bring serious Oregon brandy to our shelves as well. While places like Armagnac and Cognac have made brandy their wheelhouse, Oregon by contrast, has become known for the exceptional table wines they produce from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and brandy has been relegated to a few enterprising individuals with a passion for distillation. The...

Made from Willamette valley Pinot Noir grapes grown at the Cattrall Estate - one of the oldest plots of vines in Oregon and farmed organically since 1990. Whisky Advocate: "3 year old peated malt whisky, aged in Oregon oak. Rich nose of peat—burning leaves, a touch of sweet diesel—and fresh oak. There's no stinting on the peat; it's young, it's in your face. Whiskey to stand toe-to-toe with Portland's hopped-to-blazes beers. Not just peat: creamy malt makes a solid floor and an exit that may be the most complex part of the experience. Refined for a 3 year old. Limited annual release. (Vol. 22, #4)" K&L Notes: After working directly with Steve McCarthy for years and even doing a single cask program with hi...

Whisky Advocate: "The nose balances enticing aromas of tropical fruit—mango, jackfruit, papaya—with earthy clay and dark chocolate, a harbinger of the bright sweetness of the palate, which sings with grapefruit, lemon-lime zest, kiwi, and pineapple soda, plus roasted nuts and semi-dark chocolate. The texture is waxy, verging to oily with a few drops of water, but never heavy. Though the finish is short, it’s complete, rounded out with white pepper, jackfruit, and grapefruit oil. (SSB, Spring 2021) " K&L Notes: Portland's Westward distillery began in 200...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: " Look for a mild cucumber aroma and robust palate that showcases anise and lemon tartness, echoing a hint of cucumber and clove heat on the exhale. With repeated sips, the anise note seems to expand and blossom, and adds a minty finish. *Top 100 Spirits of 2020* (KN)" (08/2020) K&L Notes: Freeland Spirits is a pioneering women-owned, independent distillery in Portland, Oregon founded by Jill Kuehler. While the distillery was born of a night of whiskey drinking with her friend and local Oregon rancher, Cory Carmen, the origin...

While the non-alcoholic spirit category continues to explode, it is rare that we actually find a new entrant that excites us. Wilderton, out of Oregon, is making some of the best non-alc spirits we've tasted. The Bittersweet Aperitivo is a ringer for a Campari replacmenet and doesn't suffer from the usual pitfalls of non-alc spirits (most importantly it's not overly reliant on ginger and capsacin to mimic alcohol burn). This is beautifully balanced and bitter and pairs perfectly with tonic or soda.

From the McCarthy Family Orchards in the foothills of Mount Hood comes Clear Creek Distillery's Eau de Vie Pomme. This release was made using a traditional European pot still and barrel aged for eight years. What you get is a beautiful amber-hued brandy that smells remarkably of fresh apples, but has the complexity of an oak-aged gem on the palate. Rivals the best Calvados.

90 points Whisky Advocate: "Tropical and floral on the nose, with kiwi, mango, hibiscus, coconut cream, and pistachio and almond halva; add water and a big burst of honeysuckle blooms. There are more tropical notes on the palate: melon, guava, pineapple, and Juicy Fruit, as well as almond, coffee ice cream, milk chocolate, and spice. The mouthfeel is robust, becoming mouthwatering on the finish, which is oak-led but balanced with floral hop character. (SSB, Summer 2020)" (06/2020) K&L Notes: Westward American Single Malt is fully matured and then finis...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "With its clean, neutral profile, this graceful gin works well with just about anything, from Aviation cocktails (natch) to bone-dry Martinis. On the palate, look for bewitching hints of caraway, juniper, grapefruit and a dry, faintly spicy finish. (KN)" (04/2012) K&L Notes: Aviation Gin is a unique partnership between Lee Medoff and Christian Krogstad of House Spirits Distilling in Portland, OR, and mixologist Ryan Magarian of Liquid Kitchen in Seattle, WA. Believed to the first collaboration of its kind, Aviation Gin evolve...
