95-97 points Vinous: "The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a deep color. The beautifully defined bouquet offers blackberry, raspberry, incense and crushed stone aromas, all incredibly detailed and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, perfectly pitched acidity and a structured finish that delivers good grip and a touch of black pepper on the spicy aftertaste. Seriously fine. (NM)" (12/2020) 95 points Wine Spectator: "A dense, muscular red, delivering dark cherry and blackberry fruit shaded by mint, tar, toasty oak, earth, iron and...

94-96 points Vinous: "Penetrating aromas and flavors of black cherry and minerals. Wonderfully creamy and deep but with a compelling juiciness to leaven its velvety sweetness. Utterly mouthcoating thickness here as well as outstanding spicy depth and impeccable balance. Finishes with powerful tannins and great persistence. And bone-dry in spite of its strong impression of sucrosité. This will age for a long time. Labet described this wine as 'like drinking through a funnel: we feel the pressure but it's coming through a small hole.' (ST)" (01/2017) 95 ...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Deep ruby. A superbly multifaceted nose offers up nose of notably ripe black berry, plum and earth as well as hints of animale and underbrush. There is outstanding power to the very concentrated and serious large-scaled flavors that are underpinned by a dense layer of dry extract that does not completely buffer the exceptionally firm tannins as they too coat the mouth. This is an old school Clos de Vougeot that is positively Cistercian in its finishing austerity. I very much like this but I would only suggest purc...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A softly spicy and markedly floral nose blends aromas of red currant, raspberry and newly turned earth. There is very good underlying energy and punch to the succulent and seductive yet powerful and concentrated broad-shouldered flavors that display a touch of warmth on the detailed, very firm, serious and austere finale. This is also potentially excellent, but this is definitely not a wine to engage in its early youth." (01/2021) 94 points Decanter: "Lamarche has three parcels in the Clos de Vougeot. There is o...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From two parcels—one in Grand Maupertui and another in Les Chioures (next to Méo Camuzet's)—the 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru opens in the glass with notes of cherries, raspberries and spices, complemented by hints of licorice, rose petals and rich soil tones. Full-bodied, layered and velvety, with fine depth at the core, lively acids and fine-grained tannins, it's a rather suave, elegant rendition of Mongeard-Mugneret's Clos Vougeot. (WK)" (01/2021) 94 points Wine Spectator: "A rich, spicy version, this red b...

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet berries, raw cocoa, loamy soil and incense. Medium to full-bodied, deep and elegantly muscular, it has lively acids, powdery tannins and a classically balanced, youthfully reserved profile. It's a touch finer-boned and more vibrant than its 2018 counterpart at the same stage. This was a fascinating tasting with father François Labet and son Edouard, who are together pushing Domaine Pierre Labet and the Château de la Tour to new qualitat...

96 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "By contrast to the regular cuvee where aggressive swirling quickly dissipated the reduction, here that didn't help enough to reveal the underlying fruit. On the palate though there is noticeably better size, weight and concentration to the bigger-bodied flavors that possess a highly seductive mid-palate texture thanks to the abundant dry extract that buffers the markedly firm tannic spine shaping the serious, austere and borderline chewy finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. This is impressive though I under...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An intensely earthy, somber and brooding nose of fresh cassis and black raspberry is followed by equally taciturn broad-shouldered flavors that possess forbidding size, weight and intensity as well as outstanding length on the powerful and palate staining finish. This is a classic example and at present, very, very austere and thus will not be for everyone. It's also clearly for the very patient." (01/2012)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Displays enticing aromas of flowers, cherry, strawberry and spice, with a hint of leather and licorice in reserve and a long, long finish. A wall of tannins shuts this down—at least for now. The aromas are worth the price of admission. (BS)" (06/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Clos Vougeot is remarkably polished and fine in this vintage. It may ultimately prove to be better than the 2010 given that the heat of the year has tamed the tannins to such a significant degree. Layers of red fruit built to th...

95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the nose is similar to the regular cuvée from a compositional standpoint but the fruit is denser, slightly riper and more complex as well. The very concentrated broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent concentration as the copious dry extract both coats the palate and buffers the extremely firm tannic spine on the explosively long but impeccably well-balanced finish. This is distinctly old school in style and will require extended cellaring to arrive at its peak. I would not recommend buying this ultra-serious...

96 points Decanter: "Given the old vines and low yields here, the wine is powerful and tannic, redolent of plum, fig and cassis, touched with notes of earth and menthol. This is a bit forbidding at present, but it should age incredibly well for those who wait. Produced from vines at least 80 years of age. Because ripening was blocked by the drought conditions, Château de la Tour waited until the end of August to pick. The fruit from the top of the slope and the bottom was destemmed, resulting in 70–80% whole-cluster fermentation. Drinking Window 2025 - 2...

94-96 points Vinous: "The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a tightly-wound nose that took time to open in the glass, touches of crushed rock filtering through the redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit. The palate is smooth and sensual, more density and sinew than the Echezeaux and a touch more salinity and energy on the finish. This should age well, but deserves three to four years in bottle. (NM)" (02/2022) 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An earthier and more somber if nicely layered nose is comprised by notes of both red and dark berries al...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Rich aromas of cassis, plums, warm spices, dark chocolate and toasty new oak introduce Boillot's 2019 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, a full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine that's layered and elegantly muscular, with lively acids and powdery structuring tannins. Youthfully reserved, this has turned out very nicely. (WK)" (01/2021) 92 points Decanter: "This comes from two parcels totalling less than one-third of a hectare, both in Grand Maupertuis near the top of the Clos. The grapes were completely destemmed prior t...

92-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A slightly riper blend of red and blue Pinot fruit, violets and plenty of warm earth also suffuses the rich, full-bodied and very serious broad-shouldered flavors. This enjoys an abundance of tannin-buffering dry extract that confers a sappy texture to the driving, complex and hugely long finish. This is a first-rate example of this uneven appellation and well worth considering." (01/2012) Jancis Robinson: "Great energy on the nose. Dense fruit on the palate. Really rich and lively. Great vibrancy. Very impressi...

94-96 points Vinous: "The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, matured with 50% whole bunch and 20% new oak, from parcels just below Château de la Tour on more gravelly soils. This has a broody bouquet, more bashful and closed at the moment, compared to Mortet’s other cuvées. That will open in time. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite saline with a white and black pepper on the strict but quite compelling finish. Sophisticated, but it will need time. (NM)" (12/2021) 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Clos de Vougeot Gr...

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An extremely pretty and relatively airy nose is comprised by notes of red currant, dark cherry, earth and soft spice and floral wisps. There is fine richness to the velvety medium-bodied flavors that possess both good focus and power and delivering equally good depth and persistence. This isn't refined and it's not quite as structured, but this too is really good lovely and merits your interest. *Outstanding*" (01/2021) 91-93 points Vinous: "The 2019 Vougeot Les Cras 1er Cru comes from 0.68 hectares of vines and...

94-96 points Vinous: "The 2019 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comes from the upper part of the clos. One of my favorite aromatics from Bouchard, it is beautifully defined with effervescent red berry fruit, rose petals and basalt scents. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannins framing pure dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and clove. Impressive mineralité comes through on the finely chiseled finish. This is a very well-crafted Clos de Vougeot. (NM)" (12/2020) 95 points James Suckling: "A rich and mellow pinot noir with great subtlety and very p...

95 points Decanter: "A stellar wine. This monopole is picked in three different passes to ensure optimal ripeness. After whole cluster pressing and fermentation with most of the lees in cask, it will age over two winters. The result in 2019 shows ripe peach and floral aromas, with a dense, waxy texture that is really lovely, and a length on the palate that suggests a brilliant future for ageing. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039. (CC)" (10/2020) 90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Subtle but easily perceptible wood can be found on the pungent aromas of ...

94 points Decanter: "The Boillot technique of fermenting the reds in cask has succeeded here. Enough fruit was sourced to produce a single cask, and despite the fact that it was new, it has produced a wine with a beautiful clarity of plummy, spicy fruit and plenty of tension to offset the richness of the year. The balance between the two leads to a lingering finish with depth and elegance. (CC)" (11/2021) 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A touch of menthol sits atop the aromas of mostly dark berries, earth and a hint of anise character. The attrac...

2019 Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
New!
95 points Decanter: "Liger-Belair owns a 0.75ha parcel planted to old vines in the centre of the vineyard, on the border with Echézeaux, in the section of the Clos known as Baudes Basses. A large proportion of the grapes are fermented as whole clusters, producing remarkably pure, immediately attractive ripe black fruit, dressed with hints of spice and fresh violets. The texture is dense and firm, but very polished and elegant. A very sophisticated Clos de Vougeot. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039. (CC)" (10/2020) 92-94 points Vinous: "From the southern side...

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also distinctly earthy with its ripe and very fresh aromas of red and dark pinot fruit that are cut with whiffs of violet and a whisper of oak influence. The delicious middle weight flavors possess a bit more density along with fine delineation on the mildly austere, focused and more structured finale. Once again, this is worthy of your interest as it's quite good for its level. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (01/2021) K&L Notes: 88-90pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "This vineyard is by the small stream wh...

95 points Decanter: "Bouchard owns two parcels - one is very well placed, high on the slope next to the wall that separates it from Echézeaux. The other, less favoured, was not used in the domaine bottling. After a slow fermentation with a substantial percentage of whole clusters, the wine is aged in 50% new casks to produce this very aromatic wine, with ripe black cherry and bramble fruit with a suggestion of rose petals. The texture is structured and dense, yet mouth-fillingly rich as well. Drinking Window 2025 - 2050. (CC)" (10/2021) 92-94 points Ro...

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (93JG). John Gilman: "I am a very big fan of the Clos Vougeot at Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat, which I find consistently to be one of the best examples in the Côte d’Or. The 1996 is a lovely example of the vintage that hails from the plus and buffered camp, with a lovely core of pure fruit fully carrying the structure of the vintage. The bouquet is deep, complex and quite sappy in its blend of plums, black cherries, woodsmoke, a touch of venison, coffee, a great base of soil and a stylish framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and impressively pure on the attack, with a fine core, ripe tannins and a long, focused and tangy finish. This is certainly approachable today, but in terms of complexity, it is still a tad on the primary side and a few more years of bottle age should be rewarded with even greater aromatic and flavor complexity. A lovely 1996. 93+ " (09/2011)
Starting Bid: $175.00

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Bouchard often does quite well with this appellation and so it is again in 2012 as there is fine complexity to the brooding nose that is less spicy than the Ech but earthier with game and underbrush nuances to the dark berry fruit aromas. There is excellent volume and focused power to the broad-shouldered, intense and concentrated flavors that possess an abundance of palate coating dry extract, all wrapped in a firm, serious, persistent and moderately austere finale. This will not be a good candidate for early con...
