A blast from the past. Anchor distilling was founded in 1993 by Fritz Maytag and was housed in the same facility as the famed Anchor Steam Brewery which has just been tragically shut down by its corporate owners that purchased the facility in 2017. In that 2017 deal, Anchor Distilling, which was not included in the sale of the brewery, lost both its home in the brewery and its name. It rebranded as Hotaling and still makes the spectacularly delicious Junipero gin in its new home at Pier 50 in SF. While they rebranded into a new modern package shortly aft...

Four Pillars "Faultline" K&L Exclusive Australian Gin (750ml)
Top Pick!
When our first batch of Four Pillars Faultline Gin ran out, we were all devastated. Initially conceived as a one-off project, the FP Faultline turned out to be one of our most popular gins ever, both among staff and our customers. After months of trying to find a substitute, we conceded that the first go-around was just too good and needed to be remade to the exact same specs. The initial batch was put together by David Driscoll, K&L Buyer Emeritus, wanting to build on the clean citrus notes and the creamy texture that are the calling cards of Four Pilla...

The Earl and Countess of Carnarvon have lived at Highclere Castle since 1679. Today, their gin reflects many of the botanicals grown in the Castle's herb gardens - originally planted in the 9th century by the Bishops of Winchester. This London Dry gin has a beautiful balance of juniper, lime flower, orange peel, and just a touch of lavendar. Lovely with Tonic and a lemon peel or squeeze of lime or as the base in any clasic gin cocktail. It's tough to go wrong at our new pricing.

The concept of building a new distillery in this remote place isn't straightforward, but founder Anderson "Burr" Bakewell believed the unique feel of this special island could be captured—quite literally—in a bottle. The rare and elusive spirit of the Isle of Harris, which had historically drawn a special type of soul to it, was dwindling. The population slowly diminished, drawn away by modernity and the promise of prosperity on the mainland. Burr Bakewell gathered a group of like-minded individuals, who believed that the Isle still had much to give it...

Ransom's full production line offers tremendous value and an incredible glimpse into spirits of the past when nearly everything was done in house. Their Old Tom GIn is the most popular old tom in our store, but their classic gin deserves every bit as much attention. Distilled from malted two row barley that is grown, fermented, and distilled on the 40 acre farm in Oregon, it has a weight and texture unlike nearly any other gin on the market. The botanical infusion is juniper and grain forward and the local botanicals include marionberries and hops. At 8...

The name "Piùcinque," which means "plus five" in Italian, comes from the first recipe that was used to create this gin. Once the balance of the ten botanicals were defined, the next task was to work on their intensity. As the team was analyzing different combinations, they only found one with the perfect alchemy. This bottle was tagged by the master distiller with the wording "plus five" (as there was a greater intensity of five of the ten botanicals) and from this the name Piùcinque was naturally born. The flavors of sage, bergamot, and ginger are what ...

Gin Mare is a product we discovered in Scotland, of all places, years ago while searching for single malt. The retailer across the street from our hotel in Edinburgh was featuring the gin in a tasting that evening and we went over to check it out. Distilled in Spain with olives, rosemary, basil, and thyme, it's a savory and truly Mediterranean experience. The herbs never overpower the palate, however, as the balance between them is quite delicate and refined. It's definitely an ideal choice for martinis, paired with olives, of course.

Wine Enthusiast: "One of a trio of new gins from this artisan distiller, this gin's claim to fame is that it was inspired by a hike on Mt. Tam, and the distiller describes it as akin to 'drinking a martini in a pine forest.' Some will find the juniper essence too strong, although it also reads as clean and bracing, and it's laced with a peppery finish. Botanicals include Douglas fir, fennel, bay laurel and sage. A portion of the profits from the gin are donated to support California wilderness. (KN)" (04/2012) K&L Notes: Across the San Francisco Bay fr...

Wine Enthusiast: "Although the “Botanist” name might suggest a floral gin, instead the flavor profile veers toward herbs and spices. There’s a subtle, herbal scent, with anise flavors up front, backed by coriander seed and cassia bark on the spicy finish. Made by Bruichladdich Distillery, which is renowned for its Scotch, on a pot still named Ugly Betty. Sold in an attractive, square-shouldered, gift-worthy bottle. Nikka is continuing to expand its Coffey Still lineup with the addition of a new gin and vodka to complement the malt- and grain-based whiskies distilled on the multi-story apparatus located in the Miyagikyo distillery. *Special one time pricing* From the producer: In 2008, Alexandre Gabriel caused quite a sensation by producing wood-aged Citadelle Reserve. No one had seen an aged gin for nearly a century. In those days, when glass was too fragile and expensive and plastic and stainless steel were not options, gin was transported in wooden barrels. And thus became wood-aged. With Citadelle Reserve, Maison Ferrand celebrated the rebirth of golden gins. What began as a ‘family’ experiment in 2008 and shared with a few inquisitive bartenders and friends has now blossomed ...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Distilled from corn and finished with raw honey, this barrel-aged bottling is billed as a “modern day adaptation of Old Tom Gin,” a sweetened style. It has a burnished rose gold hue and the scent mingles honey and juniper. It's slightly sweet up front, with brisk pininess midpalate before it fades into vanilla and a surprising brush of peach. (KN)" (08/2015) K&L Notes: The Tom Cat Gin is one of the best barrel aged gins we have ever carried. The gin is pure, elegant and focused. Made with a single botanical -- juniper -- and...

It finishes lightly sweet, enlivened by white pepper and candied ginger sparks. *Top 100 Spirits of 2016* (KN)" (08/2016) K&L Notes: No. 209 Gin is the brainchild of the Rudd family, who own both the Rudd Oakville Estate Winery and the gourmet market Dean & DeLuca. The exceptional Ford's Gin is one of the most versatile London Drys on the market. Distilled at the exceptional Thames Distillery by master distiller Charles Maxwell and the famous Simon Ford. They start with a base of Italian juniper and coriander seed, and the recipe is expanded thoughtfully to include bitter oranges, lemon and grapefruit peel. Subtle jasmine and orris add a soft floral quality, while spicy angelica root and cassia bark give it some structure. I've always noted a smidge of cucumber, but the distiller won't cop to it. Anyway, the mixtur...

The story of Monkey 47 gin is romantic: in 1951, a British man named Montgomery Collins moved to Germany's Black Forest and opened a guesthouse named "Zum wilden Affen"--the wild monkey. While he was an enthusiastic gin drinker, Collins' talent for creating the spirit was lost to history until renovation work at the country guesthouse led to the discovery of a weighty old wooden box containing a bottle and a letter. The dusty bottle had been labeled and decorated by hand, showing a sketch of a monkey and the words "Max the Monkey--Schwarzwald Dry Gin." T...

Look for the trademark faint yellowish-saffron tinge and herbal scent, with assertive pine and anise flavors and a tart lemony touch. Serve this overproof gin tamed with ice and lots of tonic. (KN)" (04/2012) K&L Notes: Old Raj Gin is distinctive in that it contains a measure of saffron, the rare and costly spice derived from the crocus flower. In addition to the slightly spicy flavor, this also imparts a pale yellow color. The subtle, aristocratic b...
