Les Vignerons de Fontès is a cooperative winemaking facility in the hills outside the village of Pezenas in the Languedoc. Oenologist Corinne Pastourel oversees the project, which has a host of growers spread throughout the region over a range of soils including schist, basalt, limestone and clay. Thirty of these growers formed the cooperative in the 1930s and now their numbers surpass 200. K&L co-founder Clyde Beffa met Corinne years ago and forged the relationship that would bring us some of our most popular value wines coming from the south of France....

2020 Kalinda Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
This wine comes from one of the more renowned Pinot Noir producers in Northern California. Really! But, we offer this beauty at a price much lower than what you’d pay at the winery, as for decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity.

2020 TWR (Te Whare Ra) Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough
Top Pick!
94 points Sam Kim: "Fabulously fruited and inviting, the bouquet shows Granny Smith apple, feijoa and kaffir lime aromas with a hint of oatmeal. It's brilliantly bright and focused on the palate, delivering excellent fruit power together with textured mouthfeel backed by firm acidity, finishing persistent and delicious. " (11/2020) 93 points Bob Campbell: "Lush, ripe Sauvignon Blanc with attractive passionfruit, red capsicum, lime zest and citrus flavours supported by juicy acidity. A punchy wine with a pleasing texture." (04/2021) 93 points James Su...

2020 Presqu'ile Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This countywide blend must be coming from the couple of select vineyards that this winery uses regularly. That explains the snappy cranberry, raspberry, thyme, bay leaf and green peppercorn aromas of the nose. The palate dances with tantalizing acidity, offering more bay leaf, game and woody forest fruits, leading into an incense spiced finish. *Editors' Choice* (MK)" (03/2022)

2020 Domaine la Colombe Coteaux Varois en Provence Rosé
Top Pick!
Domaine de la Colombe is based in the village of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, located at elevations between 900 and 1,300 feet. The terroir includes clay-limestone soils in combination with sandier soils in the valley. The higher elevations combined with full sun exposure allow for full ripeness without sacrificing acidic balance and texture. It's a classic patio wine for aperitifs or lightly grilled seafood dishes.

The wines of Aurore Dezat are a regular feature in our wine club offerings, and her vibrant Sancerre is an easy favorite among K&L staff as well. Aurore makes wine on her family estate in Sury-en-Vaux, which was established by her grandfather. Before Aurore took over the estate, most of the fruit was sold off through négociants. She has slowly phased out the négociant contracts. The estate is home to more than just vines, with grain crops and farm animals also finding a home there, but for Aurore, the focus is on the wine. She farms organically and empha...

This rosé from Domaine de la Chapelle Saint Victor AOP Coteaux d'Aix en Provence is made from a Mediterranean blend of Grenache and Cinsault, enhanced with a touch of Syrah (Grenache 50%; Cinsault 30%; Syrah 20%). Winery note: "Light pink in color, with violet shades, this wine possesses a memorable and complex aroma. A lively wine that is smooth and possessing a certain sweetness. Very fruity, this rosé is particularly well suited as an aperitif or with salads and vegetable dishes."

2020 Domaine Cherrier Père & Fils Sancerre
Top Pick!
Domaine Cherrier was founded in 1930. Since then four generations of the family have run the estate. The domaine has limestone and calcareous clay soils that wonderfully influence the character of the grapes grown there. The Sancerre is consistently delicious, with citrus, chalky minerality and light floral notes. Its dry finish complements seafood and cheese beautifully. K&L French Regional buyer Keith Mabry says: "The Cherrier to me is always one of the biggest crowd-pleasing Sancerres/Sauvignon Blancs from anywhere in the world."

2020 Diatom Santa Barbara County Chardonnay
Top Pick!
96 points Vinous: "The 2020 Chardonnay (Santa Barbara County) is outrageously beautiful. In fact, it is one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Greg Brewer. Rich and textured in the glass, with plenty of bright acids, the 2020 is wonderfully alive. Greg Brewer has done a tremendous job in crafting a Chardonnay that is both texturally deep and intense. In 2020, facing a lack of visibility in the market because of COVID-19, Brewer-Clifton bottled just a fraction of their appellation Chardonnay, freeing up a number of top sites that Greg Brewer...

Domaine Renaud is a small operation, making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé, and St. Veran from 12 hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern, and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, and stainless steel for others. This value is a great alternative to California Chardonnay and an entry into white Burgundy.
Price: $16.99

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "With flavors from the wild herbs of the island's mountain countryside, this wine is exotic and perfumed. Its acidity and tight texture add to the delicious flavors, giving the wine a great lift at the end. (RV)" (09/2021) Wine Spectator: "A bright, high-pitched style, with a taut chalky mineral note running through white cherry and white peach flavors. (JM)" (07/2021) K&L Notes: Corsica is one of the great, off-the-radar regions for wine production. The vineyards for Petroni date back to 1885 and are surrounded by the Cors...

Just in time for the summer we have found this new Vinho Verde. A blend of 50% Loureiro, 30% Arinto and 20% Trejadura this has everything that you could want from a Vinho Verde and more. It is zippy and fresh with aromatics of mixed citrus fruits accented with a subtle mix of floral and savory tones. The flavors are persistent on the palate with just a hint of minerality. Fun and easy but not simple and with a screw top, it is ready for all your summertime needs.

The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things, oysters and this wine of origin Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul we ask each other if it "pics your poul?" We want to know if it has the vibrancy and minerality that are the hallmarks of the region. That brings us to the Montmassot, which is produced at the local cooperative in the village of Florensac. It is s...

Based in the Southern Rioja Alta village of Badarán, Martínez Alesanco is bodega producing expressive, regionally specific wines at very reasonable prices. They are entirely self reliant in grapes, all of which are grown in their home village of Badarán, one of the coldest zones of Rioja Alta. The vineyards are closer to the Sierra de la Demanda mountains, a range whose elevation and snow-covered peaks are even more dramatic than the Sierra Cantabria range to the north. Martínez Alesanco's Blanco is made from equal parts Viura, White Tempranillo, Malvasi...

While Domaine Sylvain Langoureau may not be a household name, we anticipate it will become the go-to producer for those who enjoy artfully crafted wines that combine a pronounced citrus element with crisp acidity and a touch of minerality. This family-run estate does everything by hand, is committed to low yields, and focuses on conveying each site's distinctive terroir. Producer notes from Allen Meadows for Burghound: "Sylvain Langoureau has been directing this 9 ha domaine since 1989 which he says is now farmed entirely organically." (06/2020)

2020 Perrin + Dobbs "Pitch Black" Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon
Top Pick!
A great little value in California Cabernet. With a lot of wildfire smoke problems in 2020, many folks looked south to source fruit and Paso Robles was one of the focal points. Perrin + Dobbs "Pitch Black" is a budget friendly Cabernet for everyday drinking. What you wont know from looking at the label (or the price tag) is that this was crafted by renowned winemaker Chad Alexander (Robert Craig, Hess Collection, V12 Vineyards). If you want a nice, rich, fruit foward (but not over-the-top) Cab for Tueday night drinking this should be near the top of you ...

Fabien Collange is a young winemaker from Beaujolais. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking: his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months, and maybe a few bottles for the pleasanter fall eveni...

2020 Tenuta Roveglia "Limne" Lugana
Top Pick!
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of tropical fruit and fragrant white spring flowers are front and center along with a whiff of wild herbs. On the savory palate, tangy acidity accompanies ripe yellow peach, Meyer lemon and honeydew before an almost salty close. (KO)" (10/2021)

Domaine Begude was purchased in 2003 by British couple James and Catherine Kinglake. The Kinglakes converted the vineyard over to organic farming, using only natural fertilizers and no irrigation. Today their wines are among our best direct imports with an array including Chardonnay, Viognier, Pinot Noir and even Grüner Veltliner. The wines are made by Laurent Girault, a native of Charente who has made wine all over France as well as New Zealand’s Central Otago region. Laurent’s winemaking style is clean, honest and made with little intervention. The Sau...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A richer styled wine (I've compared this cuvée to a Chardonnay from Mark Aubert), the 2020 Novellum has a medium gold hue as well as a rich, powerful bouquet of caramelized lemon, honeyed almonds, candle wax, and toasted bread. Rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, and balanced, this is another no brainer purchase." (03/2021) K&L Notes: Winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage has redefined value in the Roussillon. Consistently receiving top accolades from critics, his wines always have some of the highest QPR (quality to price r...

This Sauvignon Blanc from Touraine displays an intense, classic nose of cut grass, pepper and, believe it or not, pineapple and lemon, with plenty of minerality. Very crisp and refreshing, like a cross between a classic Touraine and a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, at an astonishingly low price! Perfect with seafood. Grown in an area located between the Loire and Cher Rivers and sandwiched between the towns of Tours and Blois, the wine shows the classic characteristics of the rich clay soils that are fortified with flint and limestone. Very bright and chee...

A beautiful terroir skillfully worked by Jérômine Paret and Philippe Garnier. Responding to the call of his parents, Jérômine gave up a career as an English teacher to take over the family estate. She then studied business and allied herself with Philippe Garnier, who has one goal in mind: to achieve excellence. She does not regret her choices today and her customers don't either! Thus, the estate evolves each year with new wines and techniques. The organically-farmed grapes for the rosé are evenly split between Carignan and Grenache with a touch each of...

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of pear, orange oil, smoke and fresh pastry preface the 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Village, a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy wine with a generous core of fruit and a mouthwateringly saline finish. (WK) The 2020 vintage has turned out quite nicely chez Domaine Paul Pernot, where the house style remains fleshy, giving and front-loaded. For now, the domaine's wines are made in much the same way that they always have been: whole-cluster pressed, barrel fermented and matured for some 11 months, with bottling befor...

Jancis Robinson: "Bright cherry red. Some suggestion of moss on the nose. Light and fresh with more acidity than tannin and no surfeit of ripe fruit. Bone dry. Would be charming served cool with light fish dishes. QGV (JR) 16/20 points" (10/2021) K&L Notes: Domaine Begude is a high quality, organic wine estate set high in the cool climate region of Limoux in the south of France. Fresh and fruit-filled, modern white, rosé, & red wines represent great value for money and are available to buy at the Domaine and around the world. Winery note: "Fruit, fruit...

2020 Domaine Tabordet "Le Champs des Vignes" Pouilly-Fumé
Top Pick!
Nestled in the village of Verdigny, Domain Tabordet is run by brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet, who took the reins back in 1981. When the two brothers first took over the estate it consisted of three hectares (7.4 acres) in Sancerre. By 1988 they had added another 4.5 hectares of Sancerre and another 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in neighboring Pouilly-Fumé, just across the Loire River. Wine growing in Pouilly-Fumé dates back to the fifth century when the Romans dominated the area. In 1937 it became an official Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) of France...

2020 Domaine Marcel Lapierre Morgon
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "Still has a whiff of youthful funk (from reduction), but after a couple of swirls of the glass this blossoms, becoming fragrant and expressive. The fine-grained tannins and mineral acidity give this a wonderful texture on the palate that’s not quite like anything else in Beaujolais. Very long, silky finish. From organically grown grapes. Unfiltered. Drink or hold." (03/2022) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lapierre's 2020 Morgon offers up aromas of plummy fruit and raspberries mingled with hints of petals and spices...

Intense flavors at the end, too, with lead pencil and lots of blackberry. Very classic and precise." (05/2021) 96-98 points Wine Enthusiast: "Bold black fruits and dense, textured tannins are very much in the style of the estate. What is new in this vintage is the extra precision that lifts the wine, bringing together the beautiful black currant flavors of ripe Cabernet S...

" (10/2021) K&L Notes: Dario Ermacora was one of our first Italian Direct Imports. His wines have always been textbook, classic, and archetypal for Friulian whites: understated, balanced, with a long finish.
