Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. On the plus side there is a lovely sense of tension to the very fresh, focused and overtly powerful big-bodied flavors that possess both first-class volume and precision, all wrapped in a youthfully austere and explosively long finale. The tannins are relatively fine-grained for the appellation but note well that this is a take-no-prisoners example and as such it would be pointless to open a bottle before its 10th birthday.
