It's comical to think Laphroaig is charging $350 for their official bottling single casks that are 7 years old! We obvioulsy passed on that because we are still finding exceptional gems like this. Here we have a 10 year old for just $90! All that big bombastic peat and iodine in a classic ex-Bourbon cask giving the balaced vanilla and creamy malt center stage. At 53.5% ABV and without coloring or chill filtration, this is surely one of the best ways to add more of Islay's Southern shore to your life.

This 30-acre estate only keeps one third of their production for making their own Champagne, selling off the rest of their fruit. They are the oldest grower-producer in their village. They have been estate-bottling Champagne since 1929, and they’ve been growing grapes longer than written records go back. Everything is aged in a hillside cellar that is over 50 feet deep at the back. This great 2012 Champagne is composed of half each Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the oldest vines on the estate. It has a wonderful sourdough toast nose and a touch of smoke ...

98 points Wine Advocate: "The classic 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon included fruit from the 2-acre, old vine parcel that is nearly 70 years of age. It boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious notes of spring flowers, blackberries, black raspberries and wet rocks. The wine’s gravelly minerality and spectacular opulence and density make it an instant classic. … It showed incredibly well last year, and it still reveals the potential to possibly merit a 3-digit score – it’s that special. One of the classic wines of Napa Valley, Scarecrow’s Cabernet Sauvign...

95 points Vinous: "Good full red. Wonderfully clean, enticing aromas of red cherry, minerals, white pepper, aromatic herbs and smoke. Sappy and densely packed, showing terrific mineral lift to the rich ripe red berry and saline flavors. Bright and focused on the long, slowly building finish. Beautiful wine. (ID)" (04/2018)

Alexandre Le Brun is a young winemaker from Monthelon in the Ardenne (Marne) region of Champagne. He is a ninth-generation winemaker. His family established themselves in Champagne in 1750 and their cellars were built in 1822. The delectable Dilection is based on the incredible 2012 vintage with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier. Only French oak is used and the vineyard where the grapes are sourced for the red wine in this blend was planted in 1902. It is rich, but classically dry, with dark cherry and strawberry fruit on the lingering finish.

This Champagne is composed of 1/3 each Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. All of the fruit is estate grown from the Ariston's vineyards in Brouillet — La Vallée Brouillet might be my very favorite place in all of Champagne. I love the rolling landscape, the mix of mustard, vineyard, and colza fields. But most of all I love the quiet peace of this secluded northwestern part of the region. This is the real countryside of Champagne! This area is known for the incredible diversity of fossilized shellfish that can be found in the fields here. The Ariston fa...

91 points James Suckling: " Lots of pretty fruit here with dark berry, dark chocolate and walnut character. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a long, fresh finish. Tight and polished. " (02/2015) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This 1,000-acre estate with 140 acres of vines is close to Bordeaux and still family owned. With bitter chocolate flavor lying over the fruit, this needs some aging before it can properly integrate. Dark tannins and spice show at the end, along with juicy black-currant fruit. 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This special block of a historic stretch of the appellation shows scents of minty blackberry, cinnamon-tinged rose petals and pencil shavings. Fleshy fruits show on the palate, from raspberry to dried cherry, with peppery brown spice and plenty of sage-driven chaparral scrub adding nuance. (MK)" (01/2015) 91 points Wine Advocate: "A classy, balanced and age-worthy effort, the 2012 Pinot Noir la Rinconada Vineyard Loma Alta comes from a single block of Clone 115 and spent 15 months in 40% new French oak. It has discrete oak i...

90 points Wine Spectator: "Pleasant, firm, rich and deftly balanced, this offers a mix of ripe dark berry, cedary oak and black licorice flavors, leading to a long, pure finish that tightens toward the end. (JL)" (04/2015) Int'l Wine Cellar: "(from the property next to the winery, north of St. Helena; aged in 40% new oak): Good red-ruby. Plum, redcurrant and nutty oak aromas are lifted by a spicy topnote. Offers good intensity and a creamy texture to its red berry and mint flavors. Finishes with serious but ripe tannins. The Firkin Whisky Company is offering some of the most exceptional casks in all of Scotland. Founded by Mike and Deborah Collings, the magic they impart is in the careful build and preparation of their finishing casks. The casks are custom built and prepared by Firkin, and are a unique combination of ex-bourbon barrel and charred French oak staves. They are built into "zebra" casks of alternating stave types, then the cask is seasoned with a custom sherry blend made specifically for the whisky that will be going into the cask. In the case of this spectac...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The top wine from the portfolio, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Anonyme offers thrilling purity and focus in its lively dark fruits, roasted meats and underbrush-scented bouquet. Full-bodied, ripe and textured, with fantastic polish and sweetness to its tannin, it has a supple, forward feel, yet will easily evolve for 10-15 years. This is another impressive lineup from oenolgist Xavier Vignon, who works with the likes of Raymond Usseglio, Le Nerthe, Marcoux and Grand Veneur, to name a few. These are all negociant wines, but...

94 points Vinous: "The 2012 Vin Santo is compelling, as it so often is. Caramel, honey, brown sugar and kirsch are some of the many notes that build effortlessly. In 2012, the Vin Santo is not quite as opulent as it can be, but that is probably a good thing in this case. (AG) " (06/2023)

95 points Wine Advocate: "More lean and racy than the Apline Vineyard, the 2012 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard has thrilling Chablis-like minerality and green citrus to go with lots of lemon curd, mint and hints of sappy flowers. Not quite as broad shouldered as the Alpine Vineyard, yet just as pure, precise and layered, this is another thrilling Chardonnay from this team that will have 10-15 years (or more) of longevity. 94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Barolo Pajana represents an important stylistic change. Domenico Clerico is increasingly moving away from small barrique and is embracing more large Slavonian oak casks. In fact, this wine sees equal use of both small and large wood. The end result is terrific and the wine is both elegant and powerful down to its inner core. The aromas are fine and sharp, and the mouthfeel is textured and rich. Those of us who have followed the evolution of this innovative estate would probably associate Domenico Clerico with contempora...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another sensational 2012 is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Insignia, which is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. Aged two years in new barrels, this is a decidedly opulent, sexy wine that has loads of crème de cassis, roasted herbs, lead pencil, lavender, and exotic spice. With a massive, expansive, broad, yet also weightless texture, it has a stacked mid-palate, no shortage of structure, and a blockbuster finish." 97 points John Gilman: "The 2012 les Preuses from Domaine William Fèvre is another absolute monument to the vintage, as it delivers a brilliant aromatic constellation of pink grapefruit, pear, tangerine, lemon blossoms, lime zest, oyster shell and every conceivable variation on the theme of chalky minerality. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure on the attack, with a great core of fruit and stunning length and grip on the racy and completely transparent finish. Just right to drink now after 10 years. (SP)" (03/2022) 91 points James Suckling: "A chewy and fresh wine with spice, nut and currant character. Full-bodied and muscular. Needs time to soften." Considered one of the "first growths" of Napa Valley, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars produces renowned Cabernet Sauvignon from its historic Stags Leap District estate vineyards. Founded in 1970, the winery brought international recognition to California winemaking and the Napa Valley when the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon won the now famous 1976 Paris Tasting, also known as the "Judgement of Paris." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' three estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons - CASK 23, S.L.V. and Fay - are among the most highly regarded and collected Cabernet Sauvignons ...

Jim McEwan: "Aromas - Opens on a stormy November day walking on the West Coast with gigantic waves blowing in from the West, then the sweetness of the barley sugar comes forward in harmony with the spicy sweetness from the bourbon soaked staves on its 1st fill. The peat smoke and the spice, plus its maturation a stones throw from the Atlantic Ocean create a truly spiritual olfactory experience. Palate - Like no other single malt, it’s smoky but there is much more to be discovered. With a dash of water and time to let it settle, you will be rewarded with ...

95 points Wine Advocate: "The Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Feusselottes is much more backward, broodier on the nose compared to the les Chaignots, the fruit slightly darker with blackberry mixed with raspberry, a hint of mulberry and undergrowth developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firmer tannin than the Chaignots, a little more masculine with very fine acidity, a touch of salinity coming toward the finish that lingers long in the mouth. There is something crystalline about this Chambolle-Musigny that is just exceptional. (NM)" (06/...

A prodigious effort, it rivals some of the fabulous past vintages such as 1997, 2001, 2002 and 2007. 93 points Wine & Spirits: "A tough young mountain wine, this grows at 2,000 feet, the 25-year-old vines at Godspeed Vineyard surrounded by the forests of Mount Veeder. Yannick Rousseau ferments it without adding yeast, which helps to capture the local microflora in the wine, bringing scents of moss, ferns, redwood bark and ripe green fig, all held in a brisk mouthful of flavor. The wine picks up energy as it takes on air, the flavors lengthening into crushed green peppercorn tannins, still fresh and saturated several days after the bottle is first opened...

That leads to a mineral, close-meshed Auslese with lots of finesse and tension-filled length, indicating very good aging potential. 93 points John Gilman: "The 2012 l’Énfant Jésus is stellar and was one of the best red wines I tasted in the cellars at Maison Bouchard on this trip. The deep, complex and beautifully pure nose soars from the glass in a blend of cherries, plums, a touch of red currant, woodsmoke, gamebird, lovely minerality, coffee, violets and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very elegant on the attack, with a sappy core of fruit, ripe tannins and excellent length and grip on the focused and youthful finish. High class. Still youthful and vibrant, it offers classic notes of ripe red and black fruits, new leather, underbrush, and ample earthy/mineral-like notions. This full-bodied, layered, beautifully texture effort has opened up beautifully since release and is drinking great today. It has at least another decade or longevity." The wood aging is still showing, although that will integrate into the great structure that holds up the ripe black currant fruits. Totally dominated by some of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon in Bordeaux, this wine has strength while also having great freshness. Ripe, voluptuous and textured, with beautifully managed tannic grip, it offers lots of black fruits, smoke, licorice, chocolate and hints of spice on the nose, with some saline minerality on the finish. Muscular, broad, and medium-to-full bodied with deep black cherry, spiced plums, and blood orange. Precise, sculpted tannins are buoyant, and the acid tension is palpable. Fermented with 50% whole clusters and aged 80% in used 500-liter barrels and the balance in concrete, it offers a southern Rhone-like bouquet of kirsch and blackberry fruits, ground herbs, pepper and spiced meats. 100 points Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Le Desir (64% Cabernet Franc, 24% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Malbec) reminds me of a young vintage of Ausone, such as 2005. The wine has amazing minerality and an explosive blueberry nose intermixed with blackberries, new saddle leather, charcoal and camphor. It is full-bodied, with espresso notes emerging on the palate. There are 1,900 cases of this super-endowed, prodigious wine that should drink well for 35-40 years. How fun it would be for mega-millionaires to put this in a blind tasting of a great vintag...
