Just released in magnum from the cellars of Launois deep underneath the village of Mesnil! Without a doubt, this is one of the best Champagnes we carry at any price. This is made from the Launois "mother vines" the massal selected old vines planted from 1947-1953 on the best mid-slope sites of their grand cru vineyards in Mesnil, Oger and Cramant. This is the last special club that they will ever produce, as they are moving to a proprietary tete-de-cuvee in the future. This shows off how well Chardonnay did in 2006 with brioche and texture that is hard t...

The gorgeous Benriach distillery is one of Speyside's most unique. The distillery, built in 1898, was promptly purchased and shuttered by nearby Longmorn Distillers and remained silent for many decades. It was purchased in 1965 by the Glenlivet Co. and refurbished before being sold to Seagram's in the late '70s. It was always a hub of experimentation and remains filled with crazy expressions and unusual cask fills, with both peated and floor malted versions. It's rather rare to see independently bottled Benriach, but it seems Alistair Hart's relationship...

Islay's easiest anagram. This beautiful cask was distilled March 9, 2006 and bottled April 24, 2023 at 17 years old. It's old school South Shore goodness from one of the world's most sought after distilleries. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.2% ABV without color or chill filtration. This cask stands out for its harmony and balance, aged in an ex-bourbon hogshead it is all about the balance between malt and wood, sea and smoke, aged to perfection.

91 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Langoa Barton has a lifted nose of small dark cherries, blackberry, incense and marmalade - quite showy for Langoa Barton - but there is joie-de-vivre here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, ripe and demonstrating impressive density plus a firm grip. This really coats the mouth in tannin, although it is still balanced. It just needs another 4-5 years in bottle, the stubborn little lady. (NM)" (05/2016) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sof...

100 points Wine Enthusiast: "Tasted in a flight of great and famous Napa wines, this Cardinale stood at the head of the pack. Starts with a very fine nose of cedar, cassis, ripe blackberries and violets, then turns dramatic and refined in the mouth. Shows vast depth and length, with the finish a full minute of sweet fruits and spices. Marvelous tannins, so plush and elegant, so powerful yet refined. The grapes hail from Mt. Veeder, Howell Mountain, Stags Leap and Oakville, and the blend contains 14% Merlot. As good as it is now, it will improve for at le...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "At the time it was shown as a barrel sample in early 2007, this was the best wine of 2006. That accolade remains. It has all the power of the Cabernet Sauvignon in Pauillac, which was the greatest success of the vintage. That power comes from the dense tannins as well as the black plum and spice flavors and minerality. The texture becomes velvet, giving a final richness, but never losing its long aging potential. In a year that is good, but not at the top, Mouton has made a great wine. *Top 100 Wines of 2009, Cellar Selection*...

93 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Bright dark red. Captivating nose offers redcurrant, raspberry, iron, tobacco, minerals and coffee. Lush, silky and sweet; youthfully reticent in the mouth but already offers an ineffably complex perfume. Boasts impressively fine, late-arriving tannins for the vintage. The wine's firm acid/tannin spine gives the finish excellent bite. A beauty. (ST)" (03/2009) 90-92 points Burghound: "Here there is a bit more obvious wood spice, mixed espresso and sexy black and blue fruit aromas that merge into rich, full and velvety medi...

99 points Decanter: "To be honest I gave the Sassicaia 1985 a 100 points at the same tasting, but those notes have already been published, and it’s a vintage that has been celebrated plenty of times. Both bottles were from one of the standout tastings of the year – in Rome, a vertical of Sassicaia dating back over five decades. This 2006 has guts and glory, there is stuffing here. The exotic heat comes through like a pan-seared filet steak, nothing more than a flash fire that gives way to succulence. More exoticism with the dancing array of flavours, fro...

The sister property of Calon-Ségur, which was owned by the Gasqueton family from 1894 to 2012. The property is located east of Calon-Ségur in St-Estèphe on gravel and clay soils. The wines display classic St-Estèphe black fruit and minerality.

96 points Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Les Pavots (a 2,730-case blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot) exhibits big notes of chocolate fudge intermixed with dark berry fruit, forest floor, underbrush, and some smoky oak. The wine is full-bodied, with remarkable intensity, low acidity, and a fleshy, opulent mouthfeel. (RP)" (12/2008) 94 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Glass-staining ruby. 95 points Wine Advocate: "There are 7,000 cases of the prodigious 2006 Proprietary Red Wine (a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec). Most of the fruit comes from the Stagecoach Vineyard and the Waters Ranch. Sweet, smoky, meaty aromas interwoven with melted asphalt, camphor, blackberry, cassis, and charcoal scents emerge from the complex aromatics. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, displaying sweet tannin, a concentrated mouthfeel, and a long, heady finish with substantial fruit, glyceri...

A solid, sturdy effort. (JL, Web-2016)" 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Not very pleasant now due to the sharpness and bitterness of the texture, as well as the wood tannins that come from aging in 100% new oak. The flavors are of primary fruit blackberries, cherries and black currants. *Cellar Selection* " (03/2010)

We've been carrying the Baraillon Armagnacs for years now and it's been a match made in heaven for K&L, the Claverie family, and our customers—we're their biggest account and their biggest fans. There's something special about walking into the tasting room at Baraillon, which is really just a little hut next to their home with plastic furniture and humble offerings (like fresh foie gras straight from the farm next door). Mr. Baraillon will come in from feeding the pigs wearing rubber boots, while his daughter Laurence stands by quietly, yet does most of ...

Deep plush fruit with tight liquorice root and menthol edging against rich blackberry coulis. Beautiful subtle tension and complexity on display. Really a huge amount that uncurls slowly in the glass. Very seductive. 95 points John Gilman: "For both the vintage-dated and the Grande Dame Rosé bottlings, Veuve Clicquot uses their parcel of Clos Colin in the village of Bouzy for the still red wine that is used to add color to the final blend. The ’06 Grande Dame Rosé is comprised entirely of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with 33 percent of the blend the former and 67 percent of the blend the latter (with 14 percent still Pinot Noir). The dosage is eight grams per liter and the wine is outstanding, offering up a pure and complex bouquet of tangerine, desiccated cherries, ch...

95 points Burghound: "This is initially quite fragrant and expressive but the longer that the wine sat in the glass the more it progressively shut down and a great deal of swirling was necessary to liberate the mostly red berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with a broad range of spice and floral elements, in particular rose petal. The broad-shouldered flavors possess a beguiling texture even though the supporting structure makes itself felt very quickly on the firm but not hard finish that goes on and on. While this is still clearly extremely you...

Full bodied, with loads of velvety tannins and a thick, jammy after taste. But it's balanced and pretty. (JS)" (02/2011) 92 points Wine Advocate: "Although closed at present, Merus’ inky/purple-colored 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon displays enormous power and richness. (11/08) Domaine La Roquète is one of the properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape belonging to the Brunier family, who have lived and worked in this celebrated region for four generations. 92 points John Gilman: "The 2006 vintage was the last where Ricardo Campinoti did not produce any single vineyard bottlings, and this has probably given a bit more complexity to his Brunello normale in this year. The wine is really excellent, as this is a more classic vintage and the measured ripeness of 13.5 percent translates into marvelous aromatic complexity on the nose, with scents of cherries, red plums, coffee, excellent soil tones, orange peel, Tuscan herbs, cedar and a touch of lavender wafting from the glass. On the palate the wine is the wine ...

89(+?) points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Oak-spiced cherry and candied rose aromas are sharpened by cracked pepper and baking spices. Deep and sweet, with strong vanilla and musky peat qualities that reminded me of Islay whisky. Oaky as all get-out but there's also abundant red berry fruit. I'm not sure which will win out in the long run, but after aeration the oak receded and fresh raspberry and candied cherry qualities came on sweet and strong. A bit of a conundrum but sure to please fans of flamboyant wines."

The 2006 Château Pape Clément has an intense bouquet that is very well defined, adorned with cassis, blueberry and subtle iodine scents that all gain momentum in the glass. Densely packed, sweet and chewy, with terrific depth of flavor; the note of bloody rare steak carries through in the mouth. This outsized wine finishes with big, chewy, youthfully tough tannins that need aging. As young as this is, it's easier to taste today than the Merlot as there's considerably more material here. Ultra-fine tannins." (06/2013) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Finely structured, this has become an impressive wine, gaining in intensity as it develops. 91 points Vinous: "The 2006 Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Cuvée Nicole VV Grand Cru, from Les Chétillons, is a rich, overt wine. Hints of almond, dried flowers, spice and chamomile are signs of a Champagne that has reached a plateau in its development. Soft contours add to that impression. The 2006 is a fine choice for readers looking for a mature Champagne that offers a good deal of aromatic and flavor complexity. Dosage is 3.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: March, 2022. 95 points Wine Advocate: "As I stated last year, there is no Hommage a Jacques Perrin in 2006, but Beaucastel’s 2006 Châteauneuf du Pape is performing even better from bottle than it did last year. Its dense plum/ruby/purple color is followed by a big, sweet perfume of black truffles, camphor, earth, incense, new saddle leather, and loads of peppery, blackberry, and herb-infused, meaty, black cherry fruit. Deep, full-bodied, and dense, with sweet tannin, this explosively rich Chateauneuf is a stronger effort than the 2005, 2004, or 2003. (RP)" (10/2008) ...

Apple and mineral notes with cream and biscuit character. Citrus and hints of mirabelle. Chalky, yet stony at the same time. Layered, yet linear and really long. But remains subtle. The acidity is so precise and focuses the flavors and nature. Lasts for minutes. Even better than the 2004."
