2002 Ramey "Jericho Canyon" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Back In Stock!
96 points Wine Advocate: "The top wine, the Jericho Canyon Proprietary Red, emerges from a vineyard northeast of Calistoga. Revealing exceptional intensity, along with a flamboyant, open-knit personality, the 2002 Jericho Canyon Proprietary Red (two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and one-third Merlot, and a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc) exhibits a deep purple color along with sweet fruit, and juicy, smoky bacon fat notes intermixed with creosote, creme de cassis, scorched earth, and toasty oak. (RP)" (02/2005) 94 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. S...

98 points Wine Advocate: "...it practically goes without saying that this elixir is embryonic, and hiding more – for all of its intensity and virtually endless length – than it shows. And did I say it’s been in bottle one week? It smells of honey, white raisin, and above all peach and apricot essence. It is virtually gelatinous and, amazingly, not at all cloyingly sweet on the palate, on the contrary its rapier penetration of a finish is only possible thanks to a level of acidity that pushes residual sugar off the radar screen and leaves this taster tota...

91 points Wine Spectator: "Pushes ripeness to the edge of jammy, with zesty wild berry, plum and raspberry notes. Intense and concentrated, with ripe and integrated tannins. Finishes with a burst of ripe fruit, smoky oak and a touch of heat. (JL)" (05/2005) K&L Notes: Since 1947 the Stanton Family has been growing grapes in Napa Valley. It wasn't until harvest of 1999 that Doug Stanton began bottling his best lots of Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon under the Stanton Vineyards label.

With buildings dating back to the 17th century, Château de Merval is located in Brémontier-Merval in the Pays de Bray. Cider production on the farm was relaunched in 1988 on 120 hectares of organic orchards grazed by a small herd of Normandy dairy cows for the production of the farm's Neufchâtel. Château de Merval is included on the esteemed list of Cuvées Prestiges-Cidres des Pays de Haute-Normandie. Don't miss a wonderful opportunity to get a sense of this idyllic place with this 18 Year Old Single Barrel, a fine and subtle expression of artisanal Calv...

93 points Wine Advocate: "Performing better from bottle than at any time in cask (which of course is the objective of great winemaking, isn’t it?), this wine reveals a dense ruby/purple color in a style somewhat reminiscent of the 1988 but with more power, concentration, and volume. It has a beautifully elegant nose of black fruits intermixed with truffle, flower, and oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied, dense, with wonderful precision, freshness, and a long, full-bodied finish with impressive levels of concentration. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030. ...

99 points Wine Advocate: "Extraordinarily opulent and rich, but playing it closer to the vest than the 2001, it gets my nod as one of the most remarkable wines made in either the Southern or Northern Hemisphere. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a sumptuous bouquet of apricots, honeysuckle, black raspberries, blackberries, licorice, and a hint of roasted meats. The wood has been soaked up by the wine’s extraordinary concentration. The wood has been soaked up by the wine’s extraordinary concentration. Fashioned from four sectors of Barossa (Maranaga,...

2002 Larkmead Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (bin soiled & nicked label)
Back In Stock!
95 points Wine Advocate: "Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the opaque purple-hued 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a fifth-growth Pauillac Pontet-Canet-like creme de cassis purity intermixed with lots of graphite and a touch of vanilla. This young, vigorous, full-bodied wine possesses an exciting personality as well as a terrific finish and length. It is coming into full maturity, where it should remain for another 15-20 years. One of Napa Valley’s most hallowed vineyards, with a history dating back to the 1800s, is Larkmead. I have been raving about th...

We've been carrying the Baraillon Armagnacs for three years now and it's been a match made in heaven for K&L, the Claverie family, and our customers—we're their biggest account and their biggest fans. There's something special about walking into the tasting room at Baraillon, which is really just a little hut next to their home with plastic furniture and humble offerings (like fresh foie gras straight from the farm next door). Mr. Baraillon will come in from feeding the pigs wearing rubber boots, while his daughter Laurence stands by quietly, yet does mo...

93 points Vinous: "Deep, saturated ruby. Very ripe, youthfully medicinal aromas of black fruits, bitter chocolate and licorice. Large-scaled, fat and full in the mouth, with terrific depth of black raspberry, licorice and chocolate flavor. This has a wonderfully seamless texture with enough supporting acidity to give it lift and shape. Finishes very long, with suave, building tannins and a flavor of Valrhona chocolate. (ST)" (05/2005) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, with a rich array of lively black cherry, plum and wild berry fruit that shows off hi...

96 points Wine Advocate: "The extraordinary, inky/purple-colored 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Peterson Family Vineyard offers a marvelous perfume of espresso roast intermixed with explosive quantities of blackberries, cassis, licorice, and Chinese black tea aromas. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with awesome opulence, a voluptuous, silky texture, and layers of fruit and concentration. The finish goes on for close to a minute. (RP)" (02/2005) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Dark, rich and concentrated, with intense layers of mocha, currant, espresso bean...

Julie and Frank Husic purchased property on the Stags Leap District border in the mid-1990's and immediately set out to plant vines on the virgin soils of the hillsides. This bottling is sourced from estate vineyards and will easily see a decade or more in cool cellars.

95 points Wine Spectator: "This delivers gorgeous flavor complexity, with espresso, mocha, currant, plum and loamy earth, joined by touches of spice and cedar. Firms nicely on the finish, where the flavors linger on. Offers more subtlety and finesse than the Napa bottling. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.—2002 California Cabernet blind retrospective (May 2012). Drink now through 2022. (JL, Web-2012)" K&L Notes: Think of Cuvée L as super-charged Lewis Reserve Cabernet. Cuvée L is not produced every year...It is only blended when they have the compo...

99 points Wine Advocate: "This 93% Merlot / 7% Cabernet Franc blend (92% from the Alexander Mountain Estate, 6% from Bennett Valley and 2% from Knight’s Valley) is a 'kissing cousin' of the 2001, only softer and more flamboyant. Classically Californian in its exuberant, flamboyant, super-rich, unctuously textured style, the tannins are softer than in the 2001, but the wine unquestionably has the potential to last for another quarter of a century. It exhibits an opaque plum/purple color along with abundant notes of cassis, licorice, graphite, coffee cake ...

92 points Wine Advocate: "This is a 320- to 500-case cuvee made by talented viticulturist Lisa Behrens, of Behrens and Hitchcock, and Francoise Peschon, the longtime winemaker at Araujo Estate. Aged 20 months in 100% French oak, of which half is new, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits an elegant, sweet, precise bouquet of black currants intermixed with incense, graphite, and subtle new oak. With firmness, finesse, balance, purity, sweet tannin, and a long, rich finish, it will provide immense pleasure over the next 10-15 years." (...

93 points Vinous: "Bright, dark red; not hugely saturated. Briary blueberry, black raspberry, menthol, bitter chocolate and herbs on the nose, with a warmer note of strawberry liqueur emerging with air. Very dense, thick and sweet; the most liqueur-like Dunn Howell Mountain to this point, reflecting the wine's highest alcohol to date. With its rich, deep flavors of plum, raspberry, tobacco and toffee, this is the most Pomerol-like of these vintages, finishing very long, with broad, substantial, palate-saturating tannins but no hard edges. In its flesh an...

2002 Domaine Robert Arnoux Echezeaux Grand Cru
Back In Stock!
94 points Wine Advocate: "Ginger snaps, spices, and rich dark fruits can be discerned in the nose of the elegant, medium to full-bodied 2002 Echezeaux. Broad, beautifully ample, as well as offering an exceptional juxtaposition of refinement and power, this gem slathers the palate with layers of spicy, peppery red and black fruits...(PR)" (06/2004)

98 points James Suckling: "At first deep, dark and mysterious. Just like the Nikolaihof cellar, where this dry riesling spent 16 years in barrel. Then, a minty freshness develops that leaps out of the glass at you. By some miracle, it manages to taste ancient and lively at once. The finish is very long with great herbal complexity. From biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter certified. Drink or hold." (09/2018) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "A teasing, flinty whiff of reduction beckons from the glass before the taut, fresh, poised but juicy palate hits you....

100 points Wine Advocate: "One of the greatest young Cabernet Sauvignons I have ever tasted is the 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To-Kalon Vineyard (which I also rated 100 when it was first bottled). This wine has hardly changed since its release. Still incredibly youthful, it reveals a blue/black color along with notes of black currants, camphor, graphite, high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, blackberries and a touch of oak. Full-bodied and multilayered with terrific texture and richness as well as a 60-second finish, this young, exuberant, slightl...

2002 Pride Mountain Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
94 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Intensely aromatic and redolent of raspberries, cassis, cocoa and touches of loam, this very rich and powerful young wine follows through with wonderfully concentrated flavors that are every bit as big and fully filled as expected. Although its sheer sense of mass and immediacy will hold it in reasonable stead as a near-term partner to meats on the bone, it has the strength and the structure to grow even better with time and deserves a wait of at least five years if not ten. *Two Stars*" (12/2004) 91 points Wine Advocate:...

96 points Wine Advocate: "The prodigious 2002 Shiraz Apricot Block (only 10-year-old vines) was produced from fruit cropped at 1.5 tons per acre. Its big, peppery, floral, blueberry, blackberry, pen ink, and vanillin-scented bouquet is followed by a wine with a nervous energy that is totally in keeping with the cool 2002 vintage. Dense, with great purity of fruit, a fabulously multi-layered, full-bodied palate, and an inky finish with enormous concentration, sweet tannin, and superb overall balance, this young, unevolved Shiraz should begin to strut its ...

97 points Wine Advocate: "A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Malbec, the 2002 La Joie is fully mature and drinking beautifully, with the alluring, savory tones of a well-aged Cabernet: dark berry fruit, shitake mushrooms, coffee grounds, graphite, leather and underbrush. The palate retains a core of dried blackcurrants, while its tannins have softened and integrated, and gentle bursts of acidity carry umami-like flavors of meat drippings, iron and soy sauce. It will continue to provide pleasure over the next decade. (...

97 points Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Le Desir, a blend of 53% Merlot, 41% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Malbec, is surprisingly youthful at this stage. Medium to deep garnet in color, it has singular aromas of grilled plums, chanterelles, oolong tea leaves, dried roses, laurel leaves, leather and saline. The palate is seamless and powdery, with a deep core of fruit, bright acidity and a very long, floral finish. It's very expressive and at an ideal stage for drinking, although it will continue to hold over the next decade in bottle. (EB)" (0...

2002 d'Yquem "Y" Bordeaux Supérieur
Back In Stock!
94 points James Suckling: " I am amazed by this. Usually the dry Yquem is rather oxidized but this is lush and delicious. It smells and tastes like dried pineapple and mango. Hints of yogurt too. Full and rich with an opulent finish. Loving it. Decant an hour before serving and don’t serve it too cold. " (06/2016) K&L Notes: This is the rarely seen dry white wine of d'Yquem. The chateau produces this wine in certain years when conditions permit. 'Y' comes from the same exceptional terroir and vines as Yquem's famous sweet wines. It benefits from identi...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Firm, rich and intense, with a complex band of ripe currant, anise, nutmeg and black cherry fruit that slowly unfolds, revealing extra layers of concentration and depth and finishing with a long yet tightly wound core of flavors. Needs time or decanting. Best from 2007 through 2014." (11/2005) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "When it comes to fine Cabernet Sauvignon, Portfolio is regularly found at the head of its class, and in 2002 it again earns a place among the better wines to be had if not necessarily leading the way. As u...

Though not yet rated, these coveted, massive wines from Red Car will not last long enough on retail shelves to get noticed by the critics. Here's what Robert Parker had to say about the 2002 The Table: "93 points. The 2002 The Table (100% Syrah from the Thompson Vineyard) represents the current rendition of the marvelous 2001 The Dreaming Detective. There are 188 cases of thick, juicy The Table. Its inky/ruby/purple color is accompanied by a big, floral bouquet revealing notes of creme de cassis, blackberries, and cherries, medium to full body, sweet tan...

Jim McEwan: "Cask Type - First Fill Bourbon Barrel - ABV 59.0%. Colour - Harvest Gold. Body - Smooth Mellow and in prime condition. Aromas - Classic Islay without the smoke which allows the barley/oak notes to shine and highlights that brilliant Atlantic freshness. Hints of ripe Guava & melon work in harmony with the crispness of the malt & the oak which brings that mellow soft sweetness. It’s an irresistible combination, almost like an Atlantic rainbow of aromatics in harmony with the Island & its unique location. Taste - Wow!! Its so clean and flavour...

With their first distillation happening in 1749, Appleton has had some time to perfect the art of tropical maturation. For decades master blender and chief chemist Joy Spence has been crafting the style that sets todays standard for Jamaican rum. A blend of pot and column distillates, all of Appleton's rums reflect that special signature of Jamaican funk blended with soft and approachable characteristics.

99 points Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Syrah Astralis Vineyard rivals the greatest wines Roman Bratasiuk has made in his 15-year career. This compelling, black/blue-hued offering from 75-year-old Syrah vines tastes like blood of the vine. An extraordinary perfume of flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, roasted meat, new saddle leather, and earth is followed by a wine with sweet tannin, sensational concentration, full body, an unctuous texture, and a full-throttle, tannic finish. Yet it reveals unbelievable elegance and finesse. Too many Euro-centric eliti...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2002 Wolf Family Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94RP). Wine Advocate: "A beautiful opaque blue/purple color is accompanied by aromas of graphite, pen ink, blueberry and blackberry liqueur intermixed with hints of camphor and licorice. Full-bodied and youthful (it tastes like a 4- to 5-year-old wine), this dense, rich, impressively textured 2002 still requires another 3-4 years of bottle age. It should drink well for 15+ years thereafter. " (06/2012)
Current Bid: $160.00

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100RP, 99WE, 98ST). Wine Advocate: "The extraordinary Harlan Estate, which I awarded 100 points seven years ago, offers no justifiable reason to doubt its perfect score. It is still a baby, with an inky purple color and notes of smoky camphor intermixed with creme de cassis, Asian soy and a hint of cedar beginning to emerge as well as some espresso and subtle damp forest floor notes. The wine has awesome intensity, a full-bodied mouthfeel, a skyscraper-like texture, and a finish that goes on for close to a minute. This is a perfect wine, still youthful and young, and not even in full adolescence as of 2012. It has 40 or more years ahead of it, but should hit its plateau of full maturity in another 5-10 years. It is certainly one of the most showy, flamboyant and remarkable Harlan Estates made to date. Kudos to Bill Harlan! (RP)" (06/2012)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Harlan "The Maiden" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 94RP, 94WE, 93ST, 92WS) in original wood. (RP)" (12/2005)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2002 Jim Barry "The Armagh" Shiraz Clare Valley South Australia (97JS, 96JH, 95RP, 94ST, 94WE). James Suckling: "Dark and smoky nose with a touch of balsamic character. The black hole of the Clare Valley on the expansive and fleshy palate. So much black-fruit aroma that it’s hard to believe it’s a decade old, let alone two. The super-fine tannins give it wonderful silkiness at the very long finish. " (10/2022)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru ((96-98RP), 95VN, 94BH, 93ST, 93WS). Wine Advocate: "Similar colour to Echezeaux. The nose is more reticent but left in the glass some gamey notes develop with leather and cherry. Fabulous definition on the palate, a more confident entry, very fresh with great finesse. Quite tight with firm tannins. More masculine than usual. This a real vin de gard. (NM)" (02/2005)

Bid on this bottle of 2002 Domaine René Engel Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (96VN, 95RP, 93WS, 92BH). Vinous: "Another strong showing for the 2002 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru from the late Philippe Engel. The nose is ethereal, offering raspberry and crushed strawberry scents, and the palate is extraordinary in terms of focus. The finish oddly reminds me of Engel's Grands Echézeaux. Magnificent. Tasted at Noizé restaurant in London. (NM)" (07/2019)
