Jancis Robinson: "45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot. Very small vintage (20-25% of the usual crop) due to the hard frost 21 Apr. Serious frost damage to new shoots. Slightly bricky rim but garnet core. Fresh and cedary but less fragrant than the 1996. A little sappy and nutty. Touch of undergrowth on the nose and comes through more on the palate. Dry, fine tannins, fully resolved and sweet. Some sweetness of undergrowth and red fruit. Just enough fruit to be in balance now but I wouldn't keep it much longer. Good fo...

93 points Wine Advocate: "A dense, full-bodied, bruiser of a wine, with an opaque color, and a promising but restrained bouquet of minerals, smoke, and blackcurrants. Full-bodied, rich, and intense, as well as tannic and backward, it is a wine made for the long term rather than immediate drinkability. This is an immensely impressive Cabernet Sauvignon. La Jota's three 1991 red wine offerings are all noteworthy. This winery has established a reliable track record for high quality Cabernet Franc. (RP)" (12/1994)

93 points Wine Spectator: "A ripe and richly concentrated wine, with focused cherry, berry and currant flavors. On the finish, the tannins really kick in, but it also delivers a lot of fruit. This is a tremendous wine, especially in its price range. Best in 1997 and thereafter. *Spectator Selection, #14 of Top Wines of 1994*" (04/1994) Vinous: "Good dark red. Musky, slightly rustic scents of redcurrant, licorice, coffee and leather. Surprisingly brisk but the acidity reveals a tart edge; slightly green but not excessively so. Finishes with strong acidi...

Wine Spectator: "Mature, and at an ideal drinking stage, with coffee, plum and dried cherry fruit leading to a firm wall of tannins... (JL, Web-2002)" K&L Notes: A lovely, aged Bordeaux style blend with savory herb, coffee bean, dark fruit and oak spice, with a nice, integrated texture. The Anthology has received 90+ points by the critics upon release for nearly every bottling since (and including) this 1991.

98 points Decanter: "From Malvasia grown at São Jorge on the north coast. Deep amber with an olive-green glint. Rich but restrained on the nose; notes of fresh greengage with bolo de mel (Madeiran honey cake) and spice. Gloriously fresh crystalised and caramelised fruit; the richness (135g/l residual sugar) is offset by the cut, but not the thrust, of racy apple and citrus acidity, plus a touch of astringency which persists on the finish. Simply magnificent Malvasia! (RM)" (08/2023) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "The concentrated sweetness of a Malmsey is...

There are not many 30+ year old Islay malts available these days for under $1,000 a bottle. We do our best to make sure the quality ones that fit the bill can be purchased at K&L. Aged in ex-Bourbon barrel, it is pure Islay smoke mingled with tropical fruits and sweet vanilla. Distilled on the last day of the year in 1991 and bottled 3/30/2023. 48.7% ABV.

Bid on this bottle of 1991 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 95WS, 91VN). Wine Advocate: "This wine is just beginning to drink spectacularly well. The fabulous 1991 Reserve is the quintessential Napa Cabernet that represents a synthesis in style between the elegance of a first-growth Bordeaux and the ripe, intense, generous fruit of Napa Valley. (RP)" (08/2002)

Bid on this bottle of 1991 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (97JD, 97ST, 97VN, 96DC, 96RP, 96WS, 95JS, 93JG). Vinous: "The 1991 Monte Bello is utterly captivating. Sweet tobacco, cedar, mint, dried flowers and herbs are some of the many notes the open up in the wine's striking bouquet. Aromatic, mid-weight and gracious, the 1991 is wonderfully complex, with more than enough balance to drink well for another two decades. The aromatics in particular are super-expressive, open-knit and incredibly finessed, all qualities Paul Draper says the wine showed right out of the fermentation tanks. What a gorgeous wine this is. (AG)" (07/2015)

Bid on this bottle of 1991 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96ST, 95RP, 95VN, 91WS). Int'l Wine Cellar: "The darkest of these wines so far: deep red-ruby. Some sexy high tones lift the complex aromas of black fruits, dried cherry, potpourri spices and earth. Initially a bit clenched but quickly revealed a silky texture, with perfectly integrated acidity enlivening the mid-palate flavors of red and darker berries, tobacco and spices accented by a minty nuance. This supple yet somehow youthful wine is perhaps most impressive on its inexorable, slowly building aftertaste, where the tannins are in perfect harmony with the fruit. (ST)" (05/2019)
