95 points Decanter: "The colour has been gently turning to brick ever since 2001 as we head through the vertical, and here we have a soft brick red. A legendary vintage, of course, that keeps surprising by how well it is holding up. This is still full of the rich pleasures of a late summer evening, even if you know the sun will set soon, and it makes you want to enjoy every last drop. Aromatics of cold ash, gentle woodsmoke and soft spices. The fruit is very much now at its gentlest, with notes of wild strawberries, salted caramel and wild roses. Wonderf...

91 points Wine Spectator: "A concentrated, delicious wine. Ruby-colored, with an amber hue. Plenty of chocolate, ripe fruit and seashells on the nose. Full-bodied and very ripe, with velvety tannins and lots of chocolate, berry and tobacco flavors. Long finish." (11/1998) Jancis Robinson: "Very, very deep crimson. Low-key nose. Thick. Stern. Dry. Mass rather than charm, but a stout effort and a slow developer. Drink 2005-2015." (09/2005) K&L Notes: Since the 1980s, Chateau Gazin has been considered a rising star on the Right Bank.

100 points John Gilman: "Blame it on the excess of youthful excitement, but my original purchase of 1982 Pichon-Lalande has now been gone from my cellar for many years, and I would love to have those bottles back today, as this vintage has just gotten better and better with the passing of time and is clearly the greatest Pichon-Lalande after the 1961 that I have ever tasted! It had been four years between bottles and this recent showing at our vertical was sheer perfection and clearly the finest showing of the 1982 that I have seen yet, as the wine offer...

99 points Decanter: "Although the colour of the wine is now bricking at the rim, the core still has a deep, tawny/garnet hue. The aromas here are significantly mature, including smoke, truffle, cedar and earth. Yet a lovely ripe plummy fruit lingers attractively on the balanced, elegant finish. Although this is drinking well now, fans of mature wine will likely be thrilled with its continued evolution. Top quality from a top vintage and definitely not in decline. (CC)" (07/2023) 98 points Jane Anson: "A rich, dense cushioning of fruit, set against a ce...

93 points Stephen Tanzer: "Full, deep red. Spicy aromas of cassis and rose petal, with a whiff of meat. Then wonderfully penetrating and classy, with bright acidity giving the wine superb clarity and thrust. This has terrific structure. Finishes very long and fine, with excellent grip. By far the finest bottle I've tasted to date of this wine, and one of the real surprises of the tasting." (07/02) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A well-crafted red with beautiful structure. Dark ruby-garnet in color, with a lot of violet and earth aromas. Full-bodied, with loa...

94 points Wine Spectator: "One of the sleepers of the vintage. Traditional and rich. Dark ruby-colored, with a slight garnet rim. Masses of berry, chocolate and raspberry character. Full-bodied and very tannic, packed with fruit. Lengthy finish. A youthful and concentrated wine; a relatively good value. (JS)" (11/1998)

90 points Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property. The 1982 Figeac appears to have dipped in form over the last few years and certainly here, compared directly against the 1989 and 1990, it does not quite offer the same fruit intensity or joie-de-vivre. It feels more diffuse on the nose, perhaps more herbaceous, a facet that I cannot remember on older bottles of 1982 that I tasted. The palate is medium-bodied, atypically austere for a 1982, but with impressive length. It is like a Saint Emilion that has forgotten how to have...

1982 Maucaillou, Moulis-en-Médoc
Top Pick!
Price: $89.99

98 points Wine Advocate: "A blockbuster, dark plum/garnet-colored wine, the 1982 L’Evangile reveals a decadent, extravagantly rich nose of caramelized fruit, plum, licorice, smoked meats, and toffee. This opulent, full-bodied Pomerol caresses the palate with layers and layers of glycerin and fruit. The tannin is barely noticeable in this massive, rich, gorgeous effort. The complexity of the nose alone is worth a special admission price. " (06/2009) 97 points Decanter: "Another dark wine, with a rich and exotic scent: lots of sweet spice and incense her...

Wine Advocate: "An attractive effort, if not one of the great wines of the vintage, the 1982 Poujeaux exhibits aromas of sweet berries, leather and orange confit, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and open-knit palate. It appears to reflect the yields as much as the potential maturity of the vintage. (12/2022)" (06/2000) K&L Notes: Robert Parker - Wine Advocate: "One of the most seriously run Medoc properties, the 1982 Poujeaux exhibits a dark ruby/garnet color in addition to a complex, earthy, herbal, black cherry, and toasty bouquet, fully mature, ...

97 points Vinous: "The 1982 Dom Pérignon is just a little more focused and vibrant in style. Here it is the wine’s salivating minerality that really sings. It, too, is quite youthful and vibrant for its age. What a flight. (AG)" (01/2014) 96 points James Suckling: "I am a big fan of this vintage of DP, like 1996 and 2002. It was served at the end of the tasting. It’s still very fresh. I love the apple pie, cream, and lightly toasted almond aromas and flavors. It’s full, round and all-encompassing. Lovely soft, caressing texture." (03/2012) 96 points ...

94 points Wine Spectator: "Sharply focused, tightly wound, powerful, elegant and tannic, but cut with a laser beam of raspberry and red cherry flavor; bracing acidity on the finish. *Top 100 Wine of 1988, Cellar Selection* " (10/1988)
Price: $599.99

92 points Wine Advocate: "Unquestionably the greatest La Lagune until the 2005 was conceived, the 1982 exhibits a dense ruby/purple-tinged color along with a big, sweet bouquet of black cherries, licorice, smoky toast, and forest floor, a plush, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and sweet tannin. It is close to full maturity, and should keep for another decade. (RP)" (06/2009) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Very dark garnet-red, with an inky center. Ripe berry and tobacco aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, with tobacco, raspberry and light toasted oak flavors....

91 points Wine Spectator: "No tasting note given. (Web-1986)" K&L Notes: According to Robert Parker: "An unqualified success for Guigal, the 1982 is much more fruity and accessible than the tougher 1983, but has deep ruby/black color, a seductive, developed bouquet of ripe cassis and black cherries, full body, an unctuous texture, and ripe, velvety fruit despite a good lashing of tannin. Mature now. Last tasted 11/89." (01/97)

97 points Decanter: "Made from grapes grown at Porto Moniz on the cool northwest corner of Madeira island. Deep amber/mahogany colour, with immediacy on the nose: spiced prune, date and dried fig richness all come singing from the glass, just verging on high-toned (1.3g/l volatile acidity). Glorious quince marmalade richness (108 g/l residual sugar) and intensity offset by penetrating acidity and bitter-sweet astringency. Lovely focus mid-palate and a long, fresh multi-dimensional finish redolent of dried apricots and citrus. Perfectly poised. (RM)" (08/...

96 points Wine Advocate: "The 1982 Léoville Poyferré continues to drink brilliantly at age 40 (and I have enjoyed three bottles this year), wafting from the glass with aromas of sweet cassis fruit mingled with notions of loamy soil, cigar wrapper, licorice, black truffle and pencil shavings. Full-bodied, broad and sumptuous, with a velvety attack that segues into a deep, fleshy core, it's generous and enveloping, with lively acids and fine, powdery tannins that still deliver a vestige of back-end grip. Today, this is a strong contender for the title of S...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1982 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien (99JD, 97DC, 97RP, 95ST, 95WS, 93JG). Jeb Dunnuck: "Tasted at the domaine, the 1982 Leoville Las Cases is just about pure perfection, and while certainly mature, it has plenty of life ahead of it. Thrilling notes of blackcurrants, kirsch, tobacco leaf, cedar box, menthol, and exotic spices all emerge from this seamless, powerful yet magically elegant Léoville Las Cases. Opening up in the glass, with a smoky, singular character, it's an incredible wine from this terroir that has an almost Latour-like regal quality." (06/2019)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1982 Figeac, St-Emilion (95DC, 95JG, 94JS, 94RP, 92ST). Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1982 Margaux, Margaux (100DC, 99JD, 98RP, 98VN, 97JS, 96ST). Decanter: "Still loaded up with firm tannins, this is a rich, gorgeous wine, with complex, smoky, pencil lead and graphite notes through the mid palate, before things soften to a cigar box and truffled finish. Cabernet Franc 4% rounds out blend. This stands out better than the 1983 today. Owner Corinne Menzelopoulos was at this point just two years in to her tenure at Margaux (and sharing ownership with the Agnelli family). She will not be surprised by this result - as the last time we discussed these wines, she said the 1983 was a standout for the first few decades but that, slowly but surely, the 1982 has stated to claim its spot. On this evidence, it's fully on the podium. (JA)" (07/2018)

Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 1982 l'Enclos, Pomerol (OWC - 91JG) in original wood. John Gilman: "I had never previously tasted a bottle of the 1982 Château l’Enclos, but had high expectations, based on a few bottles of the superb 1989 that a good friend has shared with me over the years. The 1982 did not disappoint, offering up a deep, pure and beautifully ripe bouquet of plums, black cherries, chocolate, cigar smoke, dark soil tones and just a touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with lovely focus and grip, still a bit of buried tannin perking up the backend and a long, complex and classy finish. ." Bid on this bottle of 1982 Bollinger "R.D." Extra Brut Champagne (96RP, 96VN, 93JG). Vinous: "Bollinger’s 1982 R.D., disgorged in 1995, makes for a great palate cleanser. Mature, but with enough freshness to drink well for at least another handful of years, the 1982 is a fabulous example of just how well Champagne can age with proper storage. Hints of almond, chamomile, mint, dried pear and baked apple leave a lasting impression in this super-polished, silky Bollinger. The 1982 retains quite a bit of freshness, especially considering it was disgorged more than a decade ago. (AG)" (05/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (99DC, 98JA, 98RP, 98VN, 96JS, 94WS). Decanter: "A mindblowing wine and so Lafite – almost timeless in the sense that they have stayed true to this style today: ethereal, electric and nuanced almost to the point of understatement. On the nose there's aromas of smoked meats, charred cherries, spicy plums, tobacco, floral fragrance, mint and crushed stones. Mouthwatering acidity leads the charge on the palate, so alive and thrilling but still with so much detail. It's graceful, delicate, and not too concentrated or opulent, with perfect weight, balance and poise. A wondrous wine that delivers such pure and joyful drinking pleasure. A flawless delivery and one of the best of the tasting. (GH)" (08/2023)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (100JD, 100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 98WS, 97DC). Wine Advocate: "The 1982 Mouton Rothschild is drinking brilliantly today, soaring from the glass with aromas of cassis, dark berry fruit, charcoal, pencil shavings, espresso roast and loamy soil. Full-bodied, ample and enveloping, it's a layered, sumptuous wine that's remarkably seamless and complete, with impressive concentration, ripe but lively acids and fine, melting tannins. Long and resonant, this is a great wine that can keep company with the likes of Mouton's 1961, 1959 and 1955. (WK)" (02/2022)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1982 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (99DC, 98JA, 98JS, 98VN, 97JG, 96RP, 96ST, 95WS). Decanter: "Although the colour of the wine is now bricking at the rim, the core still has a deep, tawny/garnet hue. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan (100RP, 97JS, 95ST). Wine Advocate: "One of the handful of perfect wines of the vintage, the La Mission still possesses a remarkably dense ruby/purple color with only a slight garnet and lightening at the edge. The fruit-dominated aromatics reveal lots of cassis, blueberry, scorched earth, black truffle, incense, graphite and high-class, unsmoked cigar tobacco-like notes. Still exhibiting remarkable concentration, enormous body, silky sweet tannin, and no perceptible acidity, the 1982 remains fresh, delineated and super-compelling...this modern day legend shows no signs of decline. In fact, it may not have yet reached its peak. (RP)" (08/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 1982 Latour, Pauillac (100DC, 100RP, 100VN, 99JD, 98JS, 98WS, 96JG). Vinous: "From the moment it is first opened the 1982 Château Latour is magical. Deep and still vibrant in color, but showing the translucence of age, the 1982 opens with intense, soaring aromatics that hint at what is to come. One taste is all it takes to confirm that the first impression is spot-on. This bottle, from an original wood case purchased on release, is a poignant reminder of how importance provenance is. The 1982 is simply stunning in its beauty. Vivid, multi-faceted and totally sensual, the Latour captures all the best qualities of this famous vintage. In 1982 yields were high, there was essentially none of the sorting that has become de rigueur, and cellar practices were far less ideal on paper than they are today. (AG)" (03/2016)
Current Bid: $1,230.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1982 Palmer, Margaux (97DC, 93ST, 92JG, 92RP). Decanter: "At this point in Palmer's history, the estate was being run by Peter Sichel, and was under the ownership of, as today, the Sichel and Mahler-Besse families. You can clearly tell that the heatwave in July, and the hot dry harvest (although with a damp August and early September) suited these grapes. The aromatics are still seductively rich, the colour more brick-tinged than the 1983. Soft end of summer raspberries, along with clear iodine notes that give a saline lick on the finish. (JA)" (07/2018)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1982 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (100DC, 100JD, 100JG, 100RP, 100VN, 98WS). Vinous: "Another dazzling wine, the 1982 Pichon Lalande is utterly profound from the very first taste. In the glass, the 1982 is powerful and explosive, with seemingly endless layers of flavor that continue to unfurl over time. Vivid, intensely aromatic and seamless, the 1982 has enough pedigree and depth to drink well for at least several decades. What a wine! (AG)" (06/2017)
Starting Bid: $2,320.00

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1982 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux (91VN, 90WS). Vinous: "The 1982 Brane-Cantenac is a wine that I have tasted a few times now. Quite dense on the nose, this offers black fruit, fresh tobacco and cedar, a faint polished boot leather scent emerging with time... The palate is finely balanced with filigree tannins, poised with sour cherry and raspberry commingling with cedar and dark chocolate. Whilst not a stupendous Margaux, this constitutes the best example that I have tasted. (NM)" (09/2022)
Starting Bid: $480.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1982 Gloria, St-Julien (92DC, 91RP). Decanter: "A marvellous showing for Gloria abounding with fragrance; rose petals, smoked bacon, sweet tobacco, cherries, crushed strawberries and dried flowers. Peppy and bright on the palate, very St-Julien in character, high acidity with a crushed stone texture, fine tannins and quite a sharp tang on the back. While it doesn't carry as much fullness and power as some in the tasting, this also doesn't seem as old as some, with an appealing, bright and controlled palate still full of energy and spark. Likely to still be relatively good value if seeking out today. (GH)" (05/2023)
