The vineyard lies on a mostly sandy/gravel soil with a heterogeneous sub-soil of red clay, marl and gravel. There is a relatively high proportion of Sauvignon Blanc planted: 35% of the vineyard with the remainder devoted to Sémillon (the average for Sauternes is 10% Sauvignon Blanc.)

Of the 1980 Nairac, Sauternes, Wine Advocate writes: "Nairac's 1980 is a well-balanced, light golden-colored wine that displays a good level of botrytis, a spicy, tropical fruit, oaky bouquet, medium body, soft acidity, and a fat, tasty finish. It is fully mature. (RP)" (01/1998)
