Wine Advocate: "This is a very attractive Leoville-Barton that seems to be developing at a more accelerated pace than I had initially expected. A lovely, rather full, big bouquet of smoky, berryish, ripe fruit is first class. On the palate, the wine shows a good cedary, spicy, deep fruity constitution, moderate tannins, and a long finish. (RP)" (12/1997) Wine Spectator: "A firm, chunky style, with explosive red cherry and currant flavors, fairly high alcohol and tannin and solid flavors on the finish." (02/1992)

94 points Vinous: "A host of Cabernet Sauvignon-infused aromas make a strong opening statement in the 1978 Pichon Lalande. There is certainly no shortage of power or character. If anything, the 1978 is perhaps a bit lacking in mid-palate depth, which gives it an element of austerity. Aside from that small critique, the 1978 is deeply expressive and gorgeous. (AG)" (10/2017) 93 points John Gilman: "I have drunk an awful lot of 1978 Pichon-Lalande over the years, as this was one of the current vintages of the wine in the market when I was first discoveri...

18 points Jancis Robinson: "Half bottle slipped in at the end, in an unenviable position after two fantastic wines, but it held its own. I have fond memories of finding bottles of this at a bargain price in a pub in County Clare on the west coast of Ireland. Dense, complete, savoury and confident with great balance. Jancis Robinson" (02/2009)

18-20 points Jancis Robinson: "Dense, complete, savoury and confident with great balance." (02/2009) K&L Notes: 94 points Wine Spectator (02/90) 90 points Robert Parker: "The 1978 Las Cases has taken on a garnet hue with some dark ruby tints. The nose is more complex and penetrating than the flavors. The wine offers classic, mineral, lead pencil, smoky, earthy scents, with plenty of ripe fruit, and none of the vegetal herbaceousness that many 1978s have begun to exhibit. The attack offers good ripeness, medium to full body, higher acidity than many mo...

The Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco 1978 comes from a vintage widely considered excellent, with cool conditions leading to slow ripening and wines of great structure and longevity. After over four decades, this Barbaresco would now show rich tertiary aromas of dried red fruits, leather, tobacco, and earth, with softened tannins and well-integrated acidity. The 1978 vintage highlights the aging potential of Nebbiolo and reflects the traditional winemaking style of Produttori del Barbaresco, making it a remarkable example of mature Barbaresco.

1978 Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
93 points John Gilman: "The 1978 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon from Jordan Vineyards is one of my favorite from the estate. Its Sonoma County origins are very apparent in its more “weedy” aromatic profile, but this is simply its personality trait and is most assuredly not a demerit in my book! I had not drunk a bottle of the ’78 Jordan in more than four years and was happy to see it showing beautifully and continuing to cruise along as if time is not going to touch it for decades to come. The bouquet is deep, complex and quite refined, offering up notes ...

The Marchesi di Barolo Barolo 1978 is from one of Barolo’s most respected and historic producers. The 1978 vintage is considered one of the finest in Barolo, producing wines with excellent structure and aging potential. After decades, this Barolo would have developed complex tertiary notes of dried red fruits, leather, tobacco, and earth, with well-integrated tannins and bright acidity. Known for their traditional approach, Marchesi di Barolo focuses on creating wines that reflect the region’s terroir and offer long-term aging potential.

Starting Bid: $225.00

Bid on this bottle of 1978 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (94VN, 93JG, 93RP, 92TWI, 92WS). Vinous: "A host of Cabernet Sauvignon-infused aromas make a strong opening statement in the 1978 Pichon Lalande. Bid on this bottle of 1978 Margaux, Margaux (96DC, 93JD, 93RP, 93VN). Decanter: "Holding together well and remains tannic and firm. Although the vintage generally is somewhat overlooked, Château Margaux has always been counted among the most successful wines. This bottle has started showing a brick hue at the rim, and the bouquet announces mature aromas, including tobacco, smoke, gunflint and leather. There is little primary fruit, yet the wine is still surprisingly substantial and long. It is drinking well now and should hold for another few years, but the ideal time to consume this is soon approaching. (CC)" (07/2023)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1978 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (92WS, 90RP). Wine Spectator: "Supple yet strong willed, this is mature enough for drinking now, with chocolate, cherry, violet, vanilla and raspberry notes." (05/1991)
Starting Bid: $750.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1978 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (93JG, 93RP, 91DC, 91VN). Wine Advocate: "One of the wines of the vintage, the 1978 Ducru-Beaucaillou continues to drink beautifully, offering up aromas of sweet red berry fruit, cigar box, licorice and loamy soil, followed by a medium-bodied, velvety and melting palate that's deep and seamless, marrying intensity of flavor with weightlessness. From a cold cellar with good provenance, it is well worth seeking out. (WK)" (02/2022)
Starting Bid: $420.00

Bid on this 3 liter of 1978 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (3L). Wine Advocate: "In this tasting (February, 1995), the wine performed up to its highest standards, displaying fully mature aromas of roasted herbs, red and blackcurrants and cherries intertwined with caramel and spice notes. Dense, rich, and full-bodied, with a velvety texture and gobs of spicy oak, this high alcohol, lusty-styled Cabernet Sauvignon offers a compelling glass of delicious wine. (RP)" (06/1995)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1978 Palmer, Margaux (93JG, 92RP, 92VN). John Gilman: "The 1978 Château Palmer is a beautiful wine that is now at its apogee of peak maturity, with the personality of the vintage giving this wine a slightly exotic extra layer of complexity that is very appealing. As readers most likely remember, the 1978 vintage was one that was saved by a perfect Indian Summer that took what had been a underripe crop and pushed it across the finish line in October with three weeks of warm and sunny weather. By today’s standards, the grapes were still not physiologically ripe, so there can be a slight green element to both the flavors and aromatics of some of the wines of the vintage, but with the ’78 Palmer, this is a very minor element that simply adds a touch of exotica to the wine.
