91 points John Gilman: "The 1976 Mondavi cabernet sauvignon is a truly lovely example of this drought vintage, delivering excellent purity and elegance on both the nose and palate. The very classy nose shows almost none of the “roasted” tones that I frequently find in ’76 cabernets, wafting from the glass in a very classy mélange of red cherries, a touch of eucalyptus, woodsmoke, lovely soil tones, a whisper of chipotle pepper and a nice touch of fresh herbs in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and quite velvety on the attac...

98 points Decanter: "Produced from grapes grown at Calheta on the sunny south coast. Deep amber/mahogany colour, this is rich and profound on the nose, with dried fruit compote and heady intensity. Powerful on the palate: the tang of tawny marmalade (115 g/l residual sugar) is offset by bracing acidity, which persists in parallel with dried fruit richness, all the way through the finish. Beautifully focused, this goes on and on. Glorious wine: the last release of a Blandy quartet from this successful vintage. (RM)" (08/2023) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: ...

Bid on this bottle of 1976 Roumier Bonnes Mares (93JG, 90BH). John Gilman: "The 1976 Roumier Bonnes-Mares is one of the most successful 1976s that I have had the pleasure to taste. The nose is deep and complex, with scents of black cherry, a touch of quince, woodsmoke, venison, coffee, sous bois, minerals and a topnote of roses. On the palate the wine is deep, full and a point, with beautiful resolution, and a long, pure finish of considerable poise and grip. The fruit component here shows just a bit of the “roasted character” of this torrid vintage, but other than that, this is as elegant and finely balanced examples of the 1976 vintage as I have tasted. Superb stuff that has been at its peak for quite a few years now, but with a decade or more of time still to go. Very impressive. " (05/2001)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1976 La Mission Haut-Brion, Graves . The history of La Mission Haut Brion dates back to the 16th century, when it was owned by the Lestonnac family, who were related to the Pontac family, the owners of Chateau Haut Brion. In 1682, the estate was donated to the Congregation of the Mission, a religious order founded by Saint Vincent de Paul. The priests cultivated the vineyards for nearly 130 years, until the French Revolution, when the estate was confiscated by the state. The estate changed hands several times, until it was bought by the Woltner family in 1919, who modernized the winemaking and improved the quality of the wines. In 1983, the estate was sold to Domaine Clarence Dillon, the owners of Chateau Haut Brion, who have continued the tradition of excellence and innovation.

Bid on this bottle of 1976 Trotanoy, Pomerol (90JG). John Gilman: "At our January vertical, the 1976 Trotanoy acquitted itself very nicely and I was quite impressed, as this was the first time I had ever tasted this particular vintage. There was just a whisper of oxidation in the aromatics when the wine was first poured, but once the wine was out of the blocks, this disappeared completely. Once open, the bouquet is a fine blend of red plums, black cherries, leather, black truffle, gravelly soil tones and plenty of Trotanoy’s smokiness in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite complex, with good, but not great depth at the core, fine focus and grip and a long, meltingly tannic and classy finish. This is a very, very strong 1976. " (01/2018)
