Bid on this bottle of 1974 Simi "Special Reserve" Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (90RP). Wine Advocate: "A surprisingly youthful dark ruby/purple color is followed by a moderately intense, still unevolved bouquet of cassis, earth, and spices. Rich, full-bodied, and supple, with outstanding concentration, adequate acidity, and a fleshy, glycerin-imbued, alcoholic finish, this terrific 1974 appears to have hit its peak, but it reveals no signs of decline. Bravo! (RP)" (08/1994)

Bid on this bottle of 1974 La Mission Haut-Brion, Graves. Wine Advocate: "It has aged remarkably well, and while it will not make anyone go bonkers over its quality, it is a very good wine. The color is a dark garnet with some amber at the edge. Interesting aromatics offer up an array of scents, including cedar, seaweed, pepper, roasted meats, smoked herbs, charcoal and some murky plum and currant fruit. In the mouth, some acidity remains, but the tannins have largely melted away, and the wine still possesses enough flesh and fruit to soften its skeleton. Its complex aromatics, medium-bodied flavors and surprising vigor demonstrate what a great terroir and impeccable winemaking can achieve in a disastrous vintage. (RP)" (08/2012)

Bid on this 1-half-bottle lot of 1974 Mayacamas Napa Mountain Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (375ml) (96JG). John Gilman: It had been many years since I last had the pleasure to drink a bottle of the 1974 Mayacamas Cabernet Sauvignon and the wine continues to cruise along beautifully and act as if time will never touch it! The bouquet is deep, ripe and complex, wafting from the glass in a marvelous blend of cassis, black cherries, a touch of pomegranate, mint, cigar smoke, dark soil tones, still a bit of youthful bell pepper and incipient notes of petroleum jelly in the upper register. Bid on this bottle of 1974 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97RP, 94DC, 93VN, 92JG). Wine Advocate: "The nose is very expressive, a bouquet with open arms, touches of molasses once again, peppermint, nutmeg and hint of lemongrass. Beautiful definition. The palate is medium-bodied, very fine tannins, perhaps more so than the 1976 although it does not have quite the same depth of concentration and complexity. But there is a compelling core of dates, spice, cooked meats, citrus lemon and candied orange peel. This is as good as any mature Claret I have tasted of similar age. Awesome. (NM)" (06/2009)

Bid on this bottle of 1974 Ridge Vineyards "York Creek" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91JG). John Gilman: "The 1974 York Creek cabernet from Ridge is a lovely wine that has certainly been mature for many years already, but shows absolutely no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The deep, pure and complex nose wafts from the glass in a mix of black cherries, plums, tobacco ash, menthol, coffee, lovely soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, suave and classy, with fine, mature complexity, still solid stuffing, melted tannins and nice brightness and grip on the long and fully resolved finish. The balance here is lovely and this wine will continue to drink well for years to come, despite its tannins having fully fallen away. " (10/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 1974 Charles Krug Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Founded in 1861, Charles Krug Winery holds the distinction of being the first winery in Napa Valley, a legacy that endured when Cesare and Rosa Mondavi acquired it in 1943. After Cesare's passing in 1959, their sons stepped in, with Robert serving as General Manager and Peter as Vice President. In 1966, Peter became President, while Robert ventured off to establish his own winery in Oakville. This 1974 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon hails from the early days of Peter Mondavi's leadership, a rare find, it offers a fantastic opportunity to taste a piece of Napa Valley Cabernet history without breaking the bank.

Bid on this bottle of 1974 Clos du Val Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (94JG). John Gilman: "I last had the pleasure to drink a bottle of Bernard Portet’s lovely 1974 cabernet sauvignon about eighteen months ago and was delighted to be served another bottle at a recent tasting. This was the third vintage ever produced at Clos du Val, with the fruit for this bottling hailing from vineyards in the Stag’s Leap district. At nearly fifty years of age, the wine is at its apogee of peak drinkability and still has plenty of life ahead of it. The bouquet is deep, bright and complex, wafting from the glass in a blend of cassis, dark berries, mint, cigar ash, dark soil tones, a touch of petroleum jelly and a deft framing of cedary oak. (Drink between 2023-2050)" (01/2024)
