Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1969 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo. No producer in Barolo has deeper roots in the region's history than Marchesi di Barolo. In the early 19th century, "wine from Barolo" was popularized when the Marchese Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo and his wife (Giulia) would serve their estate wines at important diplomatic and royal functions. The cellars and vineyards formerly owned by the Marchesi were purchased by Pietro Abbona in 1929, and his descendants have been making wine there for five generations. In 2018, Forbes.com rated Marchesi di Barolo as one of the best 25 producers in Barolo with this to say: "You would expect some pretty special examples of Barolo with this name, and the winery delivers; especially noteworthy are the Cannubi and the Coste di Rose, as well as the Sarmassa in most years. Somewhat modern in their approach, the Barolos here also pay tribute to the winemaking heritage of this territory; the wines offer excellent ripeness and harmony."
