Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1967 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan. Writing about the chateau's wines generally, Robert Parker has noted: "Haut-Brion's signature is most frequently its glorious perfume of tobacco, black fruits, smoke, and dried herbs, combined with sweet, supple fruit, all crammed into a concentrated wine that never has the weight or tannic power of a Medoc, or the thick unctuosity of a top right bank wine. As I have frequently written, the one significant change to my palate over the last twenty years has been the fact that while I have always admired Haut-Brion, now I am addicted to its perfume and complexity. It is never the biggest of the first-growths, but it is usually among the most compelling wines of this elite group, with the most profound set of aromatics of any of its peers." (02/1998)

Bid on this bottle of 1967 Giacomo Conterno Barolo (95JG, 94VN). John Gilman: "The 1967 Barolo Normale from Giovanni Conterno is a masterpiece. I once owned quite a bit of this wine and drank every bottle with great pleasure, but I have finished my cache up now and only cross paths with the wine when fortune smiles my way. After a bottle reported on back in December of last year that was good, but not one hundred percent pristine, I was very, very happy to drink from another perfect example of this magical wine. This most recent bottle was another absolutely stellar showing for the wine, soaring from the glass in a beautiful mélange of black cherries, game, white truffles, orange rind, glorious autumnal soil tones, woodsmoke, leather, a bit of road tar and a pungent topnote of roses and violets. ." Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1967 Giuseppe Contratto Barolo. Contratto was founded in 1867 by Giuseppe Contratto and the winery is known as the oldest producer of sparkling wine in Italy (they also made red wines, obviously). In fact, the "Metodo Classico" 1919 Contratto Extra Brut was the first vintage sparkling wine ever made in the country. The winery has a long, distinguished history. At the turn of the 20th century, its wines were leaving Canelli for destinations all over the world (predominantly to royal houses), and Contratto was the personal supplier to the Vatican as well as to the Italian Royal Family. Awards and medals from international exhibitions and contests of the time emphasize why the name of Contratto has long been synonymous with prestige and quality.
