Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1958 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo (91JG). John Gilman: "This was a very recent release from the domaine, and clearly had been recorked and topped up prior to shipping. The wine is very fresh and elegant on the nose, offering up scents of black cherry, intense licorice, minerals, a bit of forest floor, bitter chocolate and a deft touch of cedary wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and beautifully focused and delineated, with fine length and very youthful purity on the finish. This is a lovely drink that has seemingly been topped off with younger juice. The overall impression is a wine from the early to mid-1980s, not from the 1950s. Still, whatever its pedigree, the wine is a lovely drink. " (03/2002)

Bid on this bottle of 1958 Giacomo Borgogno "Cannubi" Barolo Riserva. Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is a historic and famed wine estate in Piedmont. The company was founded by Bartolomeo Borgogno in 1761. A hundred years later, its Barolo was chosen to accompany the official lunch celebrating the unification of Italy. Cesare Borgogno, who took charge in the 1920s, began the signature policy of keeping back wines for late release (sometimes for over a decade). In 2008, the estate was sold to the Farinetti family. It's best known for its single-vineyard and Riserva Barolo wines, which are some of the most sought-after and expensive wines made in the region.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1958 Villadoria Barolo Riserva Speciale. Having begun as a nursery selling rootstock and cuttings to estates in the Langhe in the late 1800s, Villadoria established itself as a bona fide producer of fine Barolo and Barbaresco in 1959 in the heart of Serralunga d'Alba. This example of the excellent 1971 vintage from the winery's early days is still drinking beautifully, as most well-stored '58s tend to do.
