Wine Advocate: "The largely forgotten 1949 Cantemerle is one of Bordeaux's greatest efforts. It has been many years since I have tasted it. It is an extraordinary wine. I suspect well-stored examples are as hauntingly perfumed and as suave, velvety, and rich as they were twenty years ago." (10/1994) K&L Notes: This original case came directly from the fabulous Mähler-Besse Cellar in Bordeaux. Fabulous condition. Extremely rare.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1949 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe (94RP). Wine Advocate: "I have experienced bottle variation with the 1949 Calon-Segur, ranging from bottles that were slightly austere and under-nourished, to those that were superb. This bottle was an outstanding example. It did not possess the weight, unctuosity, and thickness of the 1947, nor the power, youthfulness, and muscle of the 1945. It revealed considerable amber at the edge of its dark garnet color. The nose displayed a Medoc-like, cedar, spice, curranty, mineral, and damp forest scent. Medium to full-bodied, with high tannin, excellent concentration, and an element of over-ripe fruit, this was an impressive, fully mature Calon-Segur that can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-20 years. (RP)" (02/1996)

Bid on this bottle of 1949 Henri de Villamont "Collection du Docteur Barolet" Vosne Romanée. The producer known as Henri de Villamont takes its name from the Chevalier, or Lord, of Villamont, a crusader who retired to the village of Savigny, where Villamont's cellars are located. (The cellars were built by Léonce Bocquet, then the owner of Clos de Veugeot, in 1880.) While more than half of the domaine's vineyard holdings are in Savigny-lès-Beaune, the also make a handful of wines from vineyards in the Côtes de Nuits. The cool, damp weather early in the vintage produced a small crop in Chambolle-Musigny, with firm tannins that would have benefitted from extended aging.
