It is rare to find a very mature classed-growth Sauternes for such a price. This château has been quietly producing classic stickies alongside its more famous neighbors for decades. Oak aged, and very lightly filtered, this would be a tremendous birthday bottle.

Classified as a First Growth in 1855, Coutet is one of longest lived of Bordeaux's sweet wines thanks to its legendary acidity. When young it has tremendous freshness and finesse. With a great deal of age, it develops golden highlights and a thick opulence, with luscious sweetness and roasted notes of botrytis. In "Wines of France", writer Alexis Lichine noted that Coutet was more popular than Climens, but on the drier side.
