93 points John Gilman: "The 2013 Clos du Château des Ducs from Domaine Lafarge is an outstanding young wine. The nose is pure, red fruity and quite refined, delivering a constellation of cherries, red berries, a touch of currant, gamebird, lovely minerality, mustard seed and just a whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and beautifully balanced, with a good core of red fruit, lovely soil signature and a long, suavely tannic and vibrant finish. All that is required here is a bit more patience. (Drink between 2025-206...

94 points John Gilman: "The 2014 vintage of the Clos du Château des Ducs is excellent, offering up a very classy bouquet of red plums, cherries, nice spice tones, a superb base of complex soil nuances, raw cocoa and a bit of sweet almond in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very transparent in personality, with lovely mid-palate intensity, suave tannins and a long, refined and nascently complex finish. This is going to be such a beautiful bottle of wine at full maturity. (Drink between 2025-2065) " (12/2015) 91-93 poin...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An elegant, pure and super-fresh nose reveals notes of intensely floral-inflected black berries, plum, violet and a beautiful range of spice elements. This is arguably the most refined wine in the range texturally speaking with its punchy and well-detailed flavors that terminate in a serious and tautly muscular finish. As pretty as it is though, I would still observe that it isn't quite as refined as say the 2010, 2014 or 2017 versions. *Outstanding*" (04/2020) 93 points Decanter: "A lovely red and black fruit n...

95-97 points Vinous: "The 2018 Volnay Clos des Ducs 1er Cru, the famous 2.15-hectare monopole of the domaine, is matured in around 25% new oak, although Guillaume d’Angerville mentioned that he intends to use less new oak in the future. It has a very intense bouquet of raspberry preserve, kirsch, blood orange and sous-bois aromas, all displaying wonderful delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fabulous density and complexity, offering brambly red fruit, blood orange, orange peel, suggestions of dark chocolate and, of course, wonderful mineral tens...

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An airy, cool and slightly more elegant nose isn't quite as spicy, but it is certainly higher-toned with its combination of red and dark currant, cherry and discreetly floral-suffused aromas. There is once again excellent energy to the strikingly well-detailed flavors that are almost as mineral-laden, all wrapped in a refreshing and youthfully austere finale. Good stuff and despite being firmly structured, this could actually be enjoyed young. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (04/2020) 93 points Decanter: "A lovely re...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A super-floral nose seems to have every floral element in the book including a perfumed hint of gardenia that adds a touch of elegance to the exotically spicy aromas of red and black raspberry. The pure and almost painfully intense flavors are like rolling tiny stones around in the mouth while delivering outstanding depth and persistence on the overtly austere, serious and compact finale that leaves zero doubt that this beauty is built-to-age. In a word, terrific.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2020) 94...

97 points Decanter: "This superb 2.15ha monopole, located on white clay soils just behind the winery and high on the slopes above Volnay, has made one of the great wines of the vintage in 2017. It's powerful, structured and complex, with layers of red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate fruit, sinewy tannins and pools of concentration. A stylishly oaked wine that's long, mineral and satisfying. Drinking Window 2025 - 2035. 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe yet cool and airy nose combines notes of red and dark raspberry, plum liqueur, sandalwood and a whiff of violet. There is again a beguiling texture to the sappy, even velvety, medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract that also buffers the moderately firm tannic spine supporting the impressively long finish. There is a bit more power compared to the Clos des Angles though this too is really quite refined. Lovely. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (04/2022) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advoc...

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A strikingly elegant, pure and airy nose slowly reveals its aromas of the essence of red pinot fruit, spice and lavender. There is a beguiling delicacy to the still quite punchy flavors that are lacy while delivering beautiful length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. This is a gorgeous Mitans of harmony and grace that should easily reward a decade plus of cellaring. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (04/2021) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lafarge's 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Mitans is very promising, unfur...

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Noticeable but not dominant wood influence fights a bit with the otherwise, fresh, cool, airy and ripe raspberry liqueur, plum and floral aromas. The reserved and moderately austere medium weight flavors exude a fine minerality that continues onto the powerful, linear and lingering finish. Like the Grèves, this is also quite compact and not showing much today yet it's clear that there is excellent underlying material and the balance should enable this to age exceptionally well." 93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is a whiff of exotic spice sitting atop the ripe aromas of black raspberry coulis, violet, orange peel and Asian-style tea. The caressing but solidly energetic middle weight plus flavors manage to be at once elegant yet powerful before culminating in an equally austere, compact and beautifully well-balanced finale. This beauty of a Champans is also going to need at least 7 to 8 years of patience and should be more than capable of rewarding 12 to 15. *Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*" (04/2022) 93-95 poin...

95 points Decanter: "Fermented with 40% whole bunches for the first time in 2017 as an experiment, this has to be considered a success, adding a layer of Asian spices to the wine. Precise and refined, with lots of sappy, refreshing fruit, this is one of a series of delightful Lafarge wines this year. Drinking Window 2023 - 2030. (TA) " (10/2018) 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again the elegant nose is cool, airy and restrained with its gorgeous aromas of rose petal, lavender and freshly crushed cherry and raspberry scents that are liber...

92-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again there is a markedly spicy character to the nose of plum, various dark berries and poached plum scents. The dense, sappy and less overtly mineral-driven flavors possess outstanding depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This is also going to require at least a few years of patience to be approachable though it should be fully capable of rewarding 12 to 15 years of keeping. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding!*" (04/2021) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Chevret is lovely...

93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Very ripe aromas of cassis, black berry liqueur, violet and anise precede the equally broad-shouldered flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the powerful, hugely long and very serious finish that is shaped by a markedly firm tannic spine. This is a buy and forget you own it wine as I would suggest not touching a bottle for at least 10 years. With that said, this is most impressive. *Don't Miss, Outstanding!*" (04/2021) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Mingling notes of plums and cassi...

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets is shaping up beautifully, unfurling in the glass with scents of peonies, sweet berry fruit, blood orange, smoke and warm spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and perfumed, it's velvety and charming, with melting tannins and an ample core of fruit. This is the highest in alcohol of all of Rossignol's 2019s, but it appears to be seamlessly integrated. Rossingol began picking in mid-September, and he has produced a lovely set of wines: rich and gourmand, they're dramatic ...

93-95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has an absolutely glorious bouquet of perfumed black cherries, blueberry, potpourri and light violet aromas that are understated and yet focused and delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with a precise opening, and very harmonious and sensual. Pure, mineral-driven red fruit defines the effortless finish. Stunning. (NM)" (01/2020) 94 points Decanter: "Noble reduction is often a feature of the Lafarge reds at this stage in their development, but it's nothing to sorry about, given how they mature ...

93-96 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A perfumed, cool, and intensely floral and red berry-suffused nose is also exuberantly spicy. There is better mid-palate density to the rich and generously proportioned flavors that retain a lovely sense of delineation on the superbly complex, persistent, and balanced finale. This is potentially a great Champans in the making though one that is going to require extended keeping before we find out. * Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!" 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Offering up lovely aromas of sweet berry fruit, plums, orange rind, raw cocoa and spices, the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet is medium to full-bodied, bright and mineral, with a firmer, more tightly wound profile than the gourmand, enveloping Clos des Angles, concluding with a saline finish. It's a touch more refined and ethereal than the 2018, but like that wine, it's built to age. The 2019 vintage has turned out very well indeed at Domaine Marquis d'Angerville, where Guillaume d'Angerville and François Duvivie...

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An incredibly complex, fresh and seductively perfumed nose offers up a wonderfully layered set of ripe red berry fruit, cassis, mineral and spice aromas that introduce sappy and lacy yet serious middle weight flavors that possess both excellent power and fine volume, all wrapped in a magnificently long finish. The tannins are quite firm yet they're also well-integrated as the abundant dry extract pushes them to the background. In a word, sensational. *Outstanding*" (01/2012) 94 points Vinous: "In a vintage in which...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An admirably deft application of wood subtly frames spicy aromas of red and dark currant, violet and a suggestion of sandalwood. The lacy but intense and mineral-driven medium weight flavors conclude in a balanced, wonderfully persistent, and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is sufficiently firm to repay up to a decade of cellaring. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (04/2021) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of cherries, raspberries, raw cocoa, violets, rose petals and spices introduce the 2019 V...

95 points Decanter: "The domaine's holdings of Santenots are sizeable at 3.9ha, although the younger vines are used to make Dominique Lafon's village Volnay. This richer, denser, sappier wine has subtle reduction with some spice and texture from 10% whole bunches, accompanied by filigree tannins and a core of plum and dark cherry fruit. 2018 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Les Santenots du Milieu"
Back In Stock!
94 points Decanter: "Generally the biggest and boldest of Dominique Lafon's line up of Volnays, sourced from a 3.9ha vineyard in the commune of Meursault that produced 49 barrels of wine in 2018. Focused, taut and layered, it has fine, scented one-third new oak, plenty of minerality and freshness and layers of black cherry, plum and raspberry fruit topped by pepper spice. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2015 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Champans" ((93-95BH), 95VN, 93RP). Vinous: "Saturated ruby. Youthfully imploded aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis and licorice show no roasted character ("the color of the wine is the only thing that gives away the vintage, " noted Guillaume d'Angerville). More pliant than the 2016 but with a magical sugar/acid equilibrium and a complicating element of savory minerality. This insidiously palate-saturating wine finishes with outstanding slatey persistence and grip. I would imagine that this will be long-lived but will it ever really shut down in the bottle? It's hard to imagine that this fruit was harvested on September 4. (ST)" (01/2018)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay 1er Cru "Taillepieds" ((91-93BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A backward but supremely elegant, pure and refined nose features airy and lacy red Pinot fruit and delineated, intense and almost pungently mineral middle weight plus flavors that are classy and penetrating on the laser-like finish. This is a classic Taillepieds and patience will be required for it to really open up and display its full potential. An altogether lovely wine and recommended. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (04/2007)
Starting Bid: $125.00

Bid on this magnum of 2009 Domaine de Montille Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" (1.5L) ((92-94BH), (91-93RP), (90-92ST)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A restrained yet perfumed nose is the essence of wet stone and ripe Pinot, all trimmed in dried floral notes. Like the Mitans, this is also positively crystalline as the flavors seem to be composed from liquid rock and deliver positively huge length along with the hallmark finishing austerity of a young Taillepieds. A highly impressive effort of impeccable balance. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (05/2011)
Starting Bid: $245.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bouchard Pere et Fils Volnay 1er Cru "Taillepieds" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This too is relatively toasty and very ripe, indeed to the point of where there are notes of deep plum, mocha, black berry and subtle spice hints that lead to intensely mineral and highly complex and nuanced flavors that benefit from a distinct sense of lift and detail because of the almost pungent minerality of the firmly structured and hugely long finish. This isn't really my style but there is no doubting the underlying quality of the raw material. *Outstanding* " (04/2007)
Starting Bid: $180.00

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos de la Bousse d'Or" ((91-93BH), 92RP, 90ST) and 1-bottle of 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées" ((92-94BH), 94RP, 93ST). Of the 2005 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées", Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2005 Volnay Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrees (like the Clos d’Audinac and Clos de la Bousse d’Or, a monopole) features the oldest vines in the estate’s Volnay holdings, more than half of them planted in the mid fifties. Black cherry, purple plum, pistachio, ginger, and cumin inform the nose. On the palate this offers old vines creaminess, flattering glycerin, and yet also a persistently bright freshness of black fruits. (DS)" (04/2007)
Starting Bid: $175.00

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Nicolas Potel Volnay 1er Cru "Clos de Chênes" ((90-93BH), 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Noticeable wood spice mixes with an airy and elegant nose of ripe red and black Pinot fruit that complements beautifully the detailed and minerally medium plus bodied flavors that exude grace and class on the gorgeously long finish. This is quite firmly structured and will clearly be in need of up to a decade to reach its apogee. Impressive juice. *Outstanding*" (01/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Dominique Lafon Volnay 1er Cru "Les Lurets" (92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The most impressive of the reds I tasted is, without question, the 2010 Volnay Lurets. It has the energy of the straight Volnay, but with much more fruit, density and ripeness. Dark red berries, mint, flowers, wet stones and spices blossom on the extroverted, hugely delicious finish. The 2010 boasts serious power, depth and balance. I loved it. (AG)" (08/2012)
Starting Bid: $300.00

Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs" (96BH, 96VN, 95JG, (91-94RP)). Vinous: "Good dark red. Seriously rich, deep aromas of black cherry, currant, tobacco, chocolate and sexy soil tones, plus a whiff of leather that adds complexity. Wonderfully rich, deep, tactile Volnay with a remarkably chewy texture and outstanding dimension to its flavors of strawberry, redcurrant, mocha, tobacco and cocoa powder. The salty, monumental finish features huge, mouthcoating tannins and outstanding rising length. This very complete wine boasts uncanny depth of flavor, particularly in light of the vintage's healthy yields. By far the best bottle of this wine that I have tasted to date. (ST)" (10/2019)

Bid on this magnum of 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Ducs" (1.5L) (95BH, 95RP, 94VN, 93ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Volnay Clos Des Ducs is the only wine in this lineup that is playing its cards close to the vest. Weightless yet powerful, the Clos des Ducs impresses for its striking balance and poise. There is so much going on in the glass its hard to know where to start. Floral notes meld into hints of licorice, sweet red cherries and mint in this crystalline, totally gorgeous Volnay. Today the tannins are impossibly firm, so readers will have to be patient. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru "Les Frémiets" (93BH, 91ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This too is quite ripe yet slightly fresher with airy and high-toned red Pinot fruit that gives way to detailed and intensely mineral-infused flavors that retain a lovely sense of purity and refinement on the balanced, long and penetrating finish. This is an exercise in harmony and transparency. In a word, terrific. *Sweet spot, Outstanding!* " (04/2007)
Starting Bid: $170.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Bel Air" (92BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* An airy red pinot fruit nose nuanced by a lovely mix of game, earth, iron, underbrush and a touch of the sauvage that continues onto the supple, delicious and very pinot flavors yet the finish is intensely earthy and serious. In sum, this is an attractive mix of beautiful fruit and ample Gevrey character, particularly on the explosive finish. Terrific." (01/2008)
Starting Bid: $140.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2017 Hospices de Beaune (Coche-Dury) Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots - Cuvée Gauvin" (93JG). John Gilman: "I am not sure if Raphaël Coche is likely to buy this cuvée on a regular basis in the future, but I am very happy he purchased a lot of the 2017, as this is going to be an excellent wine. It is a bit more new oaky, and the wood is a bit more toasted than is the case with the domaine’s own red wines, but it has excellent depth and complexity on both the nose and palate. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a blend of sweet blackberries, black cherries, bitter chocolate, pigeon, dark soil tones and smoky new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and shows fine purity to its soil signature, with a lovely core, fine focus and grip and a long, ripely tannic and very nicely balanced finish." Starting Bid: $860.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine de la Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des 60 Ouvrées" (94BH, 93ST, 92RP, 92WE). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The ripest nose to this point exhibits liqueur-like notes of plum, blue berry and violets that complement well the equally ripe, opulent and mineral-inflected flavors that are also quite full-bodied, all wrapped in a detailed, vibrant and hugely long finish. The underlying material here is superb and this should easily improve for the next 12 to 15 years and last for an equivalent period thereafter. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding* " (05/2011)
Starting Bid: $321.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine JM Boillot Volnay 1er Cru "Carelle sous la Chapelle" (92ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Delicate, nuanced nose offers purple fruits, violet, spices, earth, dark chocolate and smoky minerals. Stylish and light on its feet; impressively intense yet weightless. Higher-pitched than the village wine owing to its strong acidity and pronounced floral character. The rising finish perfumes the mouth with violet florality. A great showing today, but this will benefit from five or six years in the bottle. (ST) 92+" (03/2013)

92-95 points Vinous: "(the entire bottom of this vineyard was fried by frost, according to régisseur François Duvivier): Bright, dark red-ruby. Medicinal blueberry and licorice aromas are lifted by a minty high note; less showy and more restrained on the nose than the Taillepieds and Caillerets today. Then wonderfully dense, primary and pure on the palate, but more vertical and less opulent than the Taillepieds and Caillerets. Strong mineral energy accentuates the impression of vibrancy. A bit less open to inspection today owing to its firm tannic spine....

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Dublère Volnay 1er Cru "Les Pitures" ((90-93BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This too is highly perfumed and expressive with elegant red Pinot fruit aromas that possess added nuance in the form of subtle spice and violet hints. As one might reasonably expect, here the minerality is more prominent on the round, supple and seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a silky finish. This is very Volnay in basic character and delivers positively terrific length. *Outstanding*" (05/2011)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Frémiets" ((91-93BH), 92JG). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is more discreet and reserved with wonderfully pure notes of red, black and blue fruits plus a lovely hint of violets that sit atop dusty, refined and gorgeously delineated flavors supported by an almost pungent minerality on the textured, long and explosive finish. This is more concentrated and structured than usual and should live for a very long time. *Outstanding*" (04/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Dublère Volnay 1er Cru "Taillepieds" ((91-93BH)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This offers yet another notch up in overall refinement, particularly on the equally perfumed and refined nose where the stone component is front and center on the high-toned and ultra-pure red pinot fruit and floral suffused nose. There is an equally strong mineral component to the detailed, energetic and precise flavors that possess ample mid-palate concentration that buffers the moderately austere finish. This is a classy and long effort that is perhaps a bit less Cistercian in character than usual but young Taillepieds is rarely ever open for business immediately. *Sweet spot Outstanding*" (05/2011)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru "Santenots" ((91-93BH), (90-92VN)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An extremely ripe yet not surmature nose of menthol, plus liqueur and cassis aromas lead to very rich, indeed even opulent medium-bodied flavors that exude an abundance of palate coating dry extract on the velvety, powerful and coffee-infused finish of dramatic persistence. This is not an especially elegant version of the appellation nor does it have the intense minerality of the best examples yet it is compelling in its own right." (05/2011)
Starting Bid: $150.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Nicolas Potel Volnay 1er Cru "Champans" ((90-92BH), 92ST, 91RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Deep ruby. Strong reduction hides the nose but it's clear that the fruit underlying the funk is exceptionally ripe and this ripeness also characterizes the rich, supple and forward flavors that are much more refined and I like the mouth feel as there are refined tannins and plenty of the classic minerality on the persistent finish." Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru "Frémiets" (93-95RP, 92VN, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This outstanding Fremiet contains oodles of dark cherry and boysenberry fruit on the nose with very fine definition. Tightly coiled but very focused. The palate has a pretty, quite tannic entry, very nicely poised with wonderful mineralite towards the crisp, focused vintage. Bon vin! (NM)" (03/2011)
