William Lane is a tiny winery focused on making wines from "Mediterranean Island" varietals that they belive are perfect for our climate and soils in California. Using the Italian name for a grape more typically called Carignan here in the USA, this is a nod to the grapes many centuries of history in Sardinia off the mainland coast of Italy. Randle Johnson graduated from UC Davis and made wine for more than 35 years, working at wineries including Château Souverain, Mayacamas, Stags' Leap, Artezin and currently Hess Collection. He and his wife launched Calafia, a small label devoted to making wines from special sites in Northern California. The Verdelho comes from a small vineyard near Loomis in the Sierra foothills.
