99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Easily the greatest example from this château that I've tasted, the 2018 Château Calon Ségur checks in as 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and the balance Petit Verdot aged 20 months in new French oak. This dense purple-hued beauty boasts a stunning nose of blackcurrants, crème de cassis, tobacco, baking spices, chocolate, and cedarwood. With full-bodied richness, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, gorgeous tannins, and one seriously long finish, it hits that palate with 15% alcohol, yet you wouldn't know...

93 points James Suckling: "Another big, dark St.-Estèphe, but in spite of the rich body and some perceptible alcohol, there is also a cool, minty note. Slightly sweet finish in spite of all the tannins. Spice comes through at the end." (02/2017) 91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fruit forward, this wine shows ripe blackberries and dark plums on the palate. It exudes a richness that is contrasted by intense acidity and lifted fruit flavors. (RV)" (04/2015) 92 points Vinous: "Just as expressive from bottle as it was from barrel, the 2014 Tronquoy-Lalande ...

93 points James Suckling: "The aromas of violets and flowers are impressive in this with dark fruit underneath. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh and bright finish. Shows beautiful depth and resilience. Drink from 2023." (02/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Tronquoy-Lalande has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of crushed blackberries and black cherries with herbs, cigar box and damp soil. Medium to full-bodied, it offers good concentration and depth with firm, fine-grained tannins, finishing long and per...

2018 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "An incredible wine from this estate that's as good as anything in the vintage, the 2018 Château Cos D'Estournel checks in as 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot that was brought up in 50% new French oak. While some 2018s are going to offer pleasure right out of the gate, this isn't one of them, but rather it's a backward, tannic powerhouse of a wine that has flawless balance as well as a level of purity that's off the charts. Thrilling crème de cassis fruit, notes of lead pencil, damp earth, ...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Produced in the magnificent new cellars at Montrose, this big, tannic wine is powerful and concentrated. It has something of the classic severity of a wine from this estate, but that’s mitigated by the ripe, generous blackberry fruitiness and the final freshness of a 2012. A great success. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (05/2015) 94 points Decanter: "From a blend of 37% Merlot, 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, Montrose managed to take advantage of the good weather that returned in October, and brought...

91 points Wine Spectator: "Lovely aromas of crushed raspberry and Indian spices, with hints of dried flowers. Full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity berry aftertaste. I like it better than the 2000. Seductive. Best after 2007." (07/06) According to Robert Parker: "The 2003 Haut-Marbuzet is ripe, fleshy, exotic, and seductive. Dark ruby/plum-colored with sweet black cherry fruit, dried herbs, and plenty of toasty oak, this wine has good ripeness and purity, and is ideal for drinking over the next 7-8 years." (04/06) Barrel tasting according to Clyd...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine comes from an estate that is performing with distinction. It is rich, the tannins cushioned by ripe blackberry fruits and good acidity. Showing both structure and fruitiness, the wine will develop well, everything in balance. Drink from 2026. *Editors' Choice* (RV)" (03/2021) 94 points Vinous: "The 2018 Lafon-Rochet is such a classy wine. Power and finesse meld together in this Saint-Estèphe that is gorgeous, right from the very first taste. Black cherry, herbs, leather, licorice and dried flowers all build in the ...

2016 Montrose, St-Estèphe (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Unquestionably one of the top 2-3 wines of the vintage, the 2016 Château Montrose is a monument in the making. Checking in as a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc raised in 60% new French oak (the balance was in once-used barrels) and representing a tiny 36% of the production, this deep purple-colored 2016 possesses powerful, incredibly classic Saint-Estephe notes of creme de cassis, graphite, damp earth, lead pencil shavings, and burning embers. With a powerful, full-bodied style on the palate, a ...

92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From the team at Calon Ségur, the 2018 Château Capbern is another smoking good Saint-Estèphe. In 2018 it’s a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot that will spend 18 months in 60% new French oak. This ripe, sexy wine (it hit 14.6% natural alcohol) sports a deep purple color as well as blockbuster notes of crème de cassis, jammy blackberries, crushed flowers, and scorched earth. Despite all the fruit and texture, it stays beautifully balanced, has classic Saint-Estèphe earthy minerality, ripe tan...

2016 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe 6-pack in OWC (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
100 points James Suckling: "This is muscular yet so well defined and toned. Full-bodied with deep and dense fruit on the palate, yet powerful and rich at the same time. So much sandalwood and blackberry character. Chewy and rich at the finish. This is a warm and generous wine, but the alcohol is just over 13 degrees. Not that high. Love the finish. Extravagant. Magical. Try from 2025." (02/2019) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Cos d'Estournel is blended of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc aged in 65% new and ...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fine tannins give this wine its structure and its essence. It is a wine constructed with firmness, bringing out a dry core, allied to a more velvet character. The black fruits are developing well and the ensemble of the wine will be in perfect harmony. (RV)" (03/2020) 95 points Decanter: "This is gorgeous. Rich, silky, bright and perky, and full of grace. A real purity to the blueberry and blackberry fruits, and soft elongated tannins. Highly recommend for its classicism. Has the austerity of 2017 but gives it real polish, a...

2016 Le Crock, St-Estèphe
Top Pick!
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Under the same management as Château Léoville-Poyferré in Saint-Julien, this estate belongs to the Cuvelier family. With its structured Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine is made to age. Big tannins and concentrated fruits are full and dense. *Cellar Sellection* (RV)" (05/2019) 93 points James Suckling: "The purity of the cabernet sauvignon is very evident here with currant and floral character. Full-bodied, firm and very polished with lovely, strong tannins. Muscular and polished. Give it three or four years to come together." (...

96 points James Suckling: "Wild nose. Impressive, deep hue and a wealth of fresh, violet-like aromas, as well as cassis, graphite and dark cherries. The palate has a very sleek, fine, powerful core of tannins that bring a lot of depth and deliver rich dark-fruit flavor. A classic Meyney. Best since 1961!" (02/2019) 95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Meyney has a very deep color. The bouquet is a stunner, delivering intense, mineral-rich black fruit pixelated to the nth degree. This is extremely focused and conveys the energy of a tightly coiled spring. The ex...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a woody, toasty wine, which seems to be the style here for the last several years. It has weight, but does need time for the wood to subside and bring out the elegant fruits." (04/11) According to Robert Parker: " A distinctive earthy, spicy character along with hints of camphor, black currants and raspberries emerge from this medium-bodied 2008. Soft tannins, a seductive mouthfeel and surprising length suggest this wine can be drunk now and over the next decade." (05/11) According to the Wine Spectator: "Offers good...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A full-bodied powerhouse as well as a perfect wine, the 2018 Château Montrose is a final blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc that was raised in 60% new French oak. Boasting a deep purple hue as well as awesome levels of crème de cassis and smoky blackberry fruits and notes of tobacco, lead pencil, scorched earth, and chocolate, it's deep, opulent, and incredibly concentrated on the palate, with no shortage of mid-palate depth, tannins, or length. It reminds me a little of a fresher version of the 20...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A lesson in genuinely great wine, the 2005 Cos d’Estournel is a monster of a wine that delivers an incredible level of opulence and decadence while staying weightless and elegant on the palate, with no sensation of heaviness. This is what truly great wine is all about. Based on 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and the final 4% Cabernet Franc, this dense ruby/plum-hued Saint-Estèphe offers up a monster bouquet of blackcurrants, unsmoked tobacco, licorice, toasted bread, classy oak, and cedar pencil. While it starts out reserved ...

91-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A perennial over-achiever, the 2018 Château Lilian Ladouys doesn’t disappoint and offers classic notes of black and blue fruits, damp earth, violets, and a touch of minerality. Made from 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot aging in 35% new French oak, this medium to full-bodied 2018 has beautiful purity, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It’s going to be a brilliant value." (05/2019) 93-94 points James Suckling: "Very pretty blueberries and light wet earth with minerals and lavender. Medium to full body and...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a strong performance from Lafon-Rochet. There is a lot of high class new oak on the nose here, but there is plenty of ripe black fruit to support it: dark plum, blackcurrant and graphite. The palate is medium-bodied with a dense, grippy entry and a rather saturnine mid-palate. Closed, broody, obdurate and yet there is certainly decent weight of fruit here. At the moment it is unapologetically charmless but its time will come. Kudos Basile Tesseron. (NM)" (07/2013) 93 points Vinous: "The 2009 Lafon-Roche...

Vibrant acidity combines beautifully with the fruit and structure. Harmonious and attractive. Fine-toned." (02/2019) 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A monumental wine in the making, the 2016 Château Calon-Ségur is blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot that spent a full 20 months in all new French oak. It offers an incredibly powerful, concentra...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Harvested between September 17 and October 5, this wine seems always open for business, so to speak, much like the great 1982s. The summer of 2009 was very hot and dry, which got the harvest off to a reasonably early start. The blend was 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. Jean Bernard Delmas’ goal was to find perfect equilibrium between freshness and concentration, given its incredible opulence and the voluptuous character this vintage offered. That’s what this wine has in...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: " *Cellar Selection* This is a firm wine although with superb fruit. It is structured and dense, dark with tarry tannins as well as juicy fruitiness. It is a powerful wine that certainly has the freshness of the year while also having dark, dense tannins. (RV)" (03/2016) 91-94 points Vinous: "Graphite, camphor, incense, tobacco, smoke and game burst from the glass in the 2013 Montrose. A dark, brooding wine, the 2013 boasts notable depth and tannin considering its mid-weight structure. The 2013 will require at least a few yea...

93 points James Suckling: "A rich, fruity wine with lots of fine tannins and mineral undertones with some flowers. Medium body, pure fruit and a full finish." (01/2020) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine’s tannins are firm and initially prominent, bringing out the structure of a classic wine from Saint-Estèphe. At the same time, the wine offers fruitiness, freshness that can only come from the vintage. It turns to tar and licorice at the finish. Tight now, but the texture is special. Try after 2027." Château Meyney is an estate in St-Estèphe that was formed as an ecclesiastical vineyard in 1662. 92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Château Ormes de Pez is a Merlot-heavy blend that includes 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. Impressive spiced black and blue fruits, cedar pencil, flowery incense, and a touch of chocolate emerge from the glass of this rich, full-bodied effort, which offers ample tannins, a solid core of fruit, and a great finish. I love its complex, layered style, but it has enough tannins to warrant short-term cellaring." (06/2020) 92-94 points Vinous: "The 2019 Ormes de Pez has an intense bouquet of ...

95 points James Suckling: "A very serious St.-Estèphe with excellent concentration, firm tannins and a dark soul. I love the earth, walnut, bark and smoke aromas that pour out of this. Very long, dramatic, dry finish. Better from 2021." (02/2019) 94 points Decanter: "They finished picking here on 25th October, one of the latest ever harvests at Phélan. Feathery tannins and a fresh, ripe but crunchy aspect to the fruit gives a real sense of vivacity and grip. I love the dark pepper spice that clamps around the fruit on the second half of the palate. 92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A blend of 44% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Château Le Crock is a rich, beautifully textured, opulent effort that has loads of black cherries, graphite, crushed herbs and earthy notes. It's ripe, sexy, and beautifully textured, yet also fresh and pure. The 2018 hit 14.3% alcohol, with a pH of 3.71 and an IPT of 80. It’s a serious wine. 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another magical wine from this property, the 2009 Château Cos D'Estournel reminds me slightly of the 2005 with its incredibly rich, powerful, opulent style married to stunning finesse and elegance. Still youthful yet with a touch of maturity, its deep ruby/plum color is followed by classic Saint-Estèphe notes of blackcurrants, dried tobacco, loamy earth, Asian spices, and licorice. Deep, full-bodied, and massive on the palate, it's flawlessly balanced and has building tannins hiding under its wealth of fruit, with no hard edges a...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted from an ex-château bottle at BI Wine & Spirits Calon-Segur dinner in London, the 2005 Calon Segur is on par with the wonderful 2000. The only real difference is that this needs more time in bottle. It has a captivating nose: blackberry and boysenberry fruit coming at you at full pelt; dried blood and bacon fat developing as secondary aromas just behind. There is fine delineation here - an underlying mineralité sure to surface with time. The palate is very intense and disarmingly youthful, almost ferrous on...

Full-bodied, tight and integrated with ultra-fine tannins and a beautiful finish. Lasts for minutes. Very, very Cos. Harmony. Texturally marvelous." (02/2018) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "While this wine is rich, it has a classical demeanor, with fine tannins that support but never dominate the ripe black fruits. Full of juicy acidity, it offers black currants and some fine, firm tannins at the end. This will take some time to ...

It has that savoury Cabernet quality which is very Médocain, this is absolutely one to look out for, packed with estate signature. 30% new oak. 43% of total production. 4% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Bid on this bottle of 1990 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 95JG, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I was served blind a magnum of the 1990 Montrose in Cape Town, which had been purchased on release and stored in perfect conditions. Now, here was the real deal, unfettered by any infection, a regal Saint Estèphe. It shows approximately the same evolution as the 1989 in bottle, but unsurprisingly showed less bricking in magnum format. The bouquet is cut from a different cloth to the 1989 and attests to that warm vintage: hickory, clove, undergrowth and wild fennel, later garrigue-like scents and terracotta, the latter two more pronounced on the bottle format compared to the youthful magnum. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, yet the balance is perfect, a ballerina-like poise with the structure of the Forth Bridge. (NM)" (03/2017)
Starting Bid: $375.00

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2017 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe (96WE, 95DC, 95JD, 95JS, 95RP, 93VN, 93WS). Wine Enthusiast: "Fine tannins give this wine its structure and its essence. It is a wine constructed with firmness, bringing out a dry core, allied to a more velvet character. The black fruits are developing well and the ensemble of the wine will be in perfect harmony.
