2010 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
92-93 points James Suckling: "This is a wine that shows lots of chocolate, tobacco and currants. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long finish. All there." (04/2011) 93 points Wine Advocate: "The Haut-Bergey 2010 has a very concentrated bouquet with dense blackberry, briary, crushed stone and tobacco on the nose that unfolds in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. There is a lot of extraction here, but it is in tune with the acidity and the structured finish has plenty of vibrant red fruit and energy to see it thr...

This is a classic white Bordeaux, with the melange of citrus flavors and roundness that has made the category a timeless classic. The wines from Château Tour Léognan come from the younger vines planted at the Cru Classé estate Château Carbonnieux. The benefit of this collaboration is undeniable: These vines are farmed with the care and precision that normally goes into crafting bottles three times the price!
Price: $19.99

92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. There's great fruit here, lovely ripe dark plums and black cherry flavors pushing through the hugely sweet tannins. It's very opulent, a great full-fruited wine. (RV)" (06/2006) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "A gravel wash of tannin creates the structural base for this wine, spreading red currant and licorice root flavors through a long finish. The fruit is bold and supple, the mineral flavor providing tension that will sustain the wine as it ages over the next decade. For braised lamb." (10/2008) 90 points W...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This rich wine is powered by tannins and generous blackberry fruits. It is currently dry, with a firm core. But the wine has weight and will develop well. (RV)" (04/2021) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark cherry and red currant fruit melds nicely with notes of red tea and warm earth. Light alder thread stitches up the solid, juicy finish. (JM)" (03/2021)
Price: $17.99

91 points Wine Spectator: "Very ripe fruit on the nose, with hints of tobacco and cedar. Full-bodied, with big, chewy tannins, yet soft and luscious. (JS)" (03/2003) 90 points Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2000's rich, complex perfume displays aromas of cedar, black cherry liqueur, melted licorice, scorched earth, tobacco, and new oak. The wine is rich, firm, tannic, concentrated, and medium to full-bodied with admirable sweetness of fruit. It is a beautiful effort... (RP)" (04/2003) K&L Notes: One of my favorite lesser-known propertie...

95 points Decanter: "More Bordeaux should taste like this; utterly approachable with a strawberry jam sweetness of fruit and a rounded lick of vanilla. Dive a little deeper and there’s some complexity here; notes of liquorice, dust and cedar wood. (CW) " (11/2022) K&L Notes: Gold medal from Decanter and 95 points--delicous, easy drinking, fruit forward winner.. Stock up on it for parties.

2009 Malartic-Lagravière, Pessac-Léognan
Back In Stock!
95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the finest vintages I've tasted from this estate, the 2009 Château Malartic-Lagravière knocks it out of the park with its gorgeous perfume of dark currants, black cherry, and cassis fruits interwoven with lots of green tobacco, damp earth, violets, and spice. This carries over to the palate, where this full-bodied wine delivers a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, just about flawless balance, and a great finish. This awesome Graves is in the early phase of its drink window and will cruise for another 10-15 years. Bravo!" (11/2020...

Château L’Avocat is from the small commune of Cérons, which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison in Napa Valley at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted, and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost eight weeks later and was given a tour of their gravelly vineyards by her husband Sean, who manages the vines.

Lovely value red from the graves region of Bordeaux. First time we have carried this wine. Some tannins on the back palate but smooth and earthy upfront. Decant ah hour. cb
Price: $15.99

From a small family winery in the heart of Graves, this is a mineral-driven and vivacious white wine ideal for drinking early and often. Inspired by the gravelly and historic terroir of Graves, Henri and Françoise Leveque established Altus de Chantegrive in 1966 and have been handcrafting excellent Bordeaux ever since.
Price: $16.99

With a history dating the to 14th century, Château Olivier is one of the older estates in the Pessac-Leognan sub-zone of Graves. The 2001 vintage was considered excellent in the region, and this wine is showing the beauty of the year in its mature and delicious aromatics and silken mouthfeel. A perfect score for me considering the age and price of this wine. Buy it and enjoy it. I love the 2001 vintage now-many Bordeaux are perfect at 23 years of age. We have rarely carried this Chateau in the past-especially the red wine. After tasting this wine seve...

93-94 points James Suckling: "Very spicy and intense, with dark berries and sweet tobacco. Full and velvety. Very long and intense." (04/2011) 93 points Decanter: "Powerful and intense, with deep dark chocolate, black cherry and blackcurrant...black everything. It has more depth of flavour than the 2011 vintage, although both are exceptional wines with lots to offer. Very tannic, this is austere but doesn't show any bitterness. 65% of production was used in the grand vin, matured in 33% new oak. (Panel Tasting)" (07/2018) 92 points Vinous: "The 2010 ...

Price: $18.99

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I obviously underrated the 2016 Château Haut-Bailly on release, and it easily tops out my scale. A hypothetical blend of the 2009 and 2010, it has the opulence and sexiness of a ripe, sunny vintage (à la 2009) paired with incredible purity, concentration, structure, and elegance (à la 2010). Incredible aromatics of cassis, liquid violets, cedar pencil, flowers, and minerals give way to a full-bodied, multi-dimensional, layered Haut-Bailly offering ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, nothing out of place, and the class t...

2007 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan (1.5L)
Top Pick!
93 points Decanter: "Perfect for drinking now but sure to last for another decade or more. The aromatics of this are just gorgeous, unfurling in the glass to show russet and undergrowth, liquorice, soft black chocolate and savoury but welcoming berry fruit. This 2007 vintage saw a cool summer but a warm September and October, meaning careful work in the vineyard and patience was necessary. Underestimated on release. The wines might not have the structure for long ageing as with 2010 or 2000, but they are blossoming right now, and offer great pleasure; cl...

The second wine of Domaine de Chevalier, who excelled in the 2014 vintage with an over-delivering grand vin. A great under-the-radar value from a sleeper vintage.

2020 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I finished my trip through Bordeaux with the 2020 Château Haut-Brion, and it was certainly a fitting cap to the trip. Revealing a deep ruby/plum hue, the 2020 exhibits extraordinary aromatics of ripe black fruits, scorched earth, cold fireplace, and acacia flowers. An absolute blockbuster on the palate, this structured, full-bodied, massively concentrated Pessac builds incrementally, with ultra-fine tannins, a deep, layered mid-palate, and a great, great finish. Richer and more concentrated than both the 2018 and 2019 (there are ...

91 points Wine Spectator: "Very ripe fruit on the nose, with hints of tobacco and cedar. Full-bodied, with big, chewy tannins, yet soft and luscious. Best after 2007. (JS)" (03/2003) 90 points Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2000's rich, complex perfume displays aromas of cedar, black cherry liqueur, melted licorice, scorched earth, tobacco, and new oak. 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the red, the 2019 Domaine De La Solitude (Pessac-Léognan) reveals a ruby/plum color as well as textbook Graves notes of red and black cherries, damp earth, chocolate, and smoked tobacco. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has ripe, supple, yet building tannins, and a great finish. It's beautifully done, and while I'd happily drink a bottle today, it will keep for upwards of two decades." (04/2022) 92 points James Suckling: "Aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, dark chocolate, licorice and smoke. Polished and refi...

2010 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan
Top Pick!
100 points Jane Anson: "Two years on from my last tasting of this vintage, and it remains concentrated and tightly wound, but the elegance and finesse of Haut-Bailly is starting to take the upper hand over raw power in this exceptional vintage. Tannins give grip and direction to the blackcurrant and bilberry fruits, then everything relaxes through the mid palate to allow creamier raspberry, crayon, cloves and liqourice root to appear. The precision and the careful step by step construction sum up all that is wonderful about Haut-Bailly, and this is a win...

96 points Vinous: "I was deeply impressed with these wines from Domaine de Chevalier. The red has a slight upper hand in 2014, but both wines are distinctive and full of character. Olivier Bernard owns one of the crown jewels of Bordeaux, as these wines clearly make evident. The 2014 Domaine de Chevalier is a total knockout. Precise, brilliant and finely sculpted, the 2014 possesses superb intensity. Freshly cut flowers, mint and sweet red berries, along with finessed but persistent tannins, give the wine its regal personality. The 2014 needs a number of...

2019 La Louvière Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

An outstanding property in Pessac-Leognan making fine white and red wines. This 2019 comes from a great vintage for white Bordeaux.

97 points Wine Advocate: "Once again in 2010, notes of mocha, espresso roast, chocolate, creme de cassis and scorched earth soar from this opaque purple-colored wine. It is aged in 100% new oak, but that is hardly noticeable given the wine’s sensational richness and extravagant fruit. This wine is classic, full-bodied and intense. It’s just a shame that less than 8,000 bottles are usually made. This wine is still backward, but very full, rich, and impressively pure in texture. Give it another 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 20+ yea...

93 points James Suckling: "A wonderful nose of spices, dark fruits, and hot stones in the vineyard. On the palate it has a full body, displaying power and solidity. Beautiful polished tannins, but this is still a bit young." (03/2011) 90-92 points Vinous: "Full ruby-red. Supersweet aromas of raspberry, violet, tar and tobacco. Dense, sweet, layered, and rich, with flavors of black raspberry, tobacco and licorice. Superripe but not at all flat; in fact, this shows very good energy in the mouth and finishes with a touch of medicinal austerity that gives ...

99 points James Suckling: "The intensity and perfumes on the nose are extremely impressive, offering pure blackberries and violets, as well as bark, wild-mushroom and raw-tile notes. It’s full-bodied with creamy tannins that envelop the wine and a gorgeous, subtly complex center palate with all the flavors found on the nose. Endless finish. Love the finesse and length to this. Greatest ever." (03/2021) 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Domaine De Chevalier is a beauty. Based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, aged 18 month...

2023 Les Carmes Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98-99 points James Suckling: "This is a fantastic wine and very, very exciting, with purity and brightness to the floral, spicy and blackberry notes. It’s full and deep with agility and weightless. You feel the greatness in this. The winemaker says this is more concentrated and structured than the 2022. Lightly salty. 60% whole-berry fermentation. 50% cabernet franc, 30% cabernet sauvignon and 20% merlot. From organically grown grapes." (05/2024) 97-99 points Wine Advocate: "Guillaume Pouthier and his team have once again crafted one of Bordeaux's most...

93 points John Gilman: "The decade of the 1980s was a remarkable stretch for Château Haut-Bailly and the 1985 is another outstanding wine from this stunning string of wines. The superb and very perfumed nose offers up an expressive blend of black cherries, red plums, menthol, a touch of citrus, cigar ash, a lovely base of gravelly soil tones, black truffles and a bit of nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and utterly suave on the attack, with a fine core of fruit, perfect focus and balance and a very long, complex and softly tannic...

2019 Trébiac, Graves
Top Pick!
Price: $12.99

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Ripe melon, honeyed lemon, mint, and a kiss of spice all emerge from the 2021 Château Larrivet Haut-Brion Blanc, a richer, medium to full-bodied, powerful white from this team that has tons to love. It has a kiss of clean reduction and will benefit from just a year or two of bottle age and should easily evolve nicely over the following decade. The blend is 78% Sauvignon Blanc and 22% Semillon, from a mix of sandy and gravelly soils, that spent 8 months in 50% new barrels. " (04/2024) 93-94 points James Suckling: "A creamy and t...

Full-bodied, yet so linear and fine, with titanium tannins that go on so long. Builds and builds then just rolls around the palate through the endless finish. Real Bordeaux here. " (02/2022) 97 points Jane Anson: "Captures so much of the spirit of Haut-Bailly - it is powerful, with a slow build of plump cassis and blackberry fruits, but at every point you feel a sense of restrain...

Traditional and unwavering." (02/2018) 98 points Wine Advocate: "The deep garnet-purple colored 2015 La Mission Haut-Brion is a blend of 58% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Youthfully mute with bright, youthful red currants, black raspberries, cassis and freshly crushed blackberries notions, it slowly unfurls to reveal an earthy/minerally unde...

100 points James Suckling: "The black cassis comes out of the glass, together with iodine, sandalwood and subtle moss and wet-bark undertones, then turning to violets. The palate is mind-blowing, with a cashmere texture that unravels on the palate and continues on for minutes. It’s full of superbly complex, ethereal character and mouth-feel, One of the wines of the vintage. As glorious as it may be to taste now, this is one for your deep cellar. Try in 2029." 100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A tour de force from Pessac-Leognan, the 2010 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte matches the 2009 in terms of quality but possesses a more dense, powerful, compact style. Absolutely heavenly aromatics of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked tobacco, scorched earth, and truffle all define the aromatics, and it takes air to show at its best today. With full-bodied richness, massive concentration, and building tannins, it's flawless balanced, has an insane level of purity, and incredible length on the finish. Top Pick!
100 points Decanter: "The best 2020s seem to be confident without showing off or shouting too loudly and this Carmes does just that. Focused and precise, this is complex and characterful, rich yet vibrant with a texture and taste that makes an impact straight away. Fresh black fruits, floral notes and sensational minerality do the talking - it has weight, density and structure - broad and bold yet svelte, it has direction and persistence, building quickly then settling and elongating with such clarity and purity. This is a wine you want to drink. Cool, c...

Captivating, intense aromas of red cherry and red berries complicated by cinnamon and clove. Rich, dense and suave, with fleshy, mouthcoating flavors of red cherry, redcurrant and aromatic wood spices. Finishes very long and sweet, with pure spice notes and rising, polished tannins. 95 points Wine Advocate: "An absolutely spectacular effort, the 2009 is one of the all-time great La Gaffelieres produced. One would have to go back to the 2005, 1947 or 1961 to find this level of quality from this ancient, historic vineyard planted adjacent to the walls of St.-Emilion, on the Cote Pavie. Dating back to the 1400s, this estate has been owned for over three centuries by the Malet-Roquefort family. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (in the past it was two-thirds Merlot and the rest split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabern...
