A great little value in California Cabernet. With huge price increases taking their toll, many folks are looking south from Napa Valley to source hight quality fruit and Paso Robles at more reasonable price points. Perrin + Dobbs is a budget friendly Cabernet for everyday drinking. What you wont know from looking at the label (or the price tag) is that this was crafted by renowned winemaker Chad Alexander (Robert Craig, Hess Collection, V12 Vineyards). Sourced from a single vineyard in the Estrella District of Paso Robles. If you want a nice, rich, fruit...

This is a single vineyard Cabernet from Dos Robles Vineyard in the El Pomar sub-region of Paso Robles. The vines were planted in 1994 and are really in their prime at 25 years of age. The vines are planted a steep hillside with slopes up to a 30% grade. A very small production of just 10 barrels (250 cases) were made. The wine aged for 18 months in 40% new French and American oak, with the remainder in neutral barrels. This is big, powerful, inky Paso Robles Cabernet with great structure and length on the palate.

Proprietors Craig and Nancy Stoller planted their first vineyard in 1995 next to a little two-lane thoroughfare called Parris Valley Road. This bottling is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 28% new French oak barrels for 18 months. Only 537 cases produced. Tasting notes from the winemaker: "A fruit-forward representation of Cabernet Sauvignon, with red fruits dominating throughout. Aromas of raspberry and Bing cherry are laced with hints of lightly toasted oak, dark chocolate, and dusty cocoa. The fruit remains bright, and upfront on the palate, where ripe...

96 points Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Sangiovese has a medium ruby color and classic aromas of red and black cherries, soy sauce, iron, burnt orange peel, tobacco and loads of amaro-like accents. The medium-bodied palate has a concentrated core of cherry fruit and loads of spicy accents supported by abundant, dusty tannins and fireworks of fresh acidity, and it finishes long and detailed. Lovely! Pair it with hearty tomato-based dishes or tuck it away for another 3-5 years." K&L Notes: Giornata are my favorite producer of Italian varietals in California. I...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This bottling from three vineyards employs 14% Picpoul to add acidic heft to the formula, which checks off so many white-wine boxes. Aromas of sliced peach, coconut and macadamia nut are cut by crushed stone and chalk on the nose. The palate is rounded in salted peach and melon flavors, but remains vibrant in acidity and firm in texture long into the finish. 93-95 points Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Oublie 22 is a little richer, sweeter and deeper than the straight bottling, but it is every bit as interesting. Stylistically, it loses a little in aromatic complexity but gains in palate depth. This is another striking wine from Booker. Suggestions of mint and violets linger on the polished finish. (AG)" (08/2012) K&L Notes: Oublié means "the forgotten one." The "22" version of this wine spends an extra 10 months in barrel, for a full 28 months.

Composed of 54% Syrah, 29% Grenache, 13% Mourvèdre, 3% Counoise, and 1% Terret Noir. Tasting notes from the producer: "A nose of licorice and crushed rock, blackberry, soy, and sweet tobacco. On the palate, black raspberry and mineral flavors with a Syrah-driven pancetta-like meaty note. The finish is deep and long, with bright acids, chalky tannins, and a chaparral-like wild herb note that reverts finally back to the licorice note the wine started with. Complex and lingering."
