100 points Jane Anson: "A classical vintage that perfectly suits the Opus style. Gorgeous vivid plum colour, sculpted, balanced, with a ton of lift, waves of rose petals, iris and peony, soft grilled cumin, sage and white pepper spice. Love the hidden power here and the supple slightly chalky tannins that are structured in their architecture with a precision and carved quality. Precise, layered and stretched out, a brilliant Opus, concentrated and yet delicate. Feels pared back and captures the spirit of early Opus, when it moved forward the conversation...

93 points Decanter: "Another crowd-pleasing wine from Weston Eidson, who cut his teeth working alongside Napa's Jason Moore and Russell Bevan. This blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec is sourced from Oakville and Yountville AVAs and was aged in 50% new French oak barrels. Medium to deep ruby-purple colour in the glass. It showcases the warmth and generosity of Napa's 2022 vintage in an incredibly satisfying package, leading with enticing aromas of vanilla-laced boysenberry fruit scented with lilac floral and sweet baking spice...

For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. This is a superb Cabernet-very elegant and user friendly already. Lots of sweet cassis and red fruit aromas that follow to the palate. No hard edges here-drink it young with a prime rib or steak dinner. Will cellar well for five plus years. clyde

Composed of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Syrah, 8% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 5% Malbec, 4% Petite Sirah, and 3% Petit Verdot. Tasting notes from the producer: "The wine opens with aromas of cherry, blackberry and cassis , with notes of cocoa powder. On the palate the wine is bright and full, with rich flavors of bright cherry and berry. The tannins are velvety and smooth, and it has a fruit driven, mouthwatering finish."

93 points The Wine Independent: "The NV Cabernet Sauvignon Quixotic is a blend of 79% 2019 vintage from Hunnicutt and 21% 2020 vintage from a vineyard in St Helena. Deep garnet-purple in color, it rolls out of the glass with notes of warm cassis, Morello cherries, and plum preserves, plus hints of unsmoked cigars, spice cake, and dried roses with a waft of mossy tree bark. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft and juicy, with bags of fragrant fruit and a lively finish. (LPB)" (04/2023)
After working as the vineyard manager for Newton Vineyards for over 30 years, Lupe Maldonado bought a 10-acre piece of land in the cool southern tip of Napa (in Jamieson Canyon), and planted vineyards in the dark, gravelly clay soil. He brought in Jean Hoefliger from Newton as his consulting winemaker.
A stunning value in Napa Valley Chardonnay from winemaker Matt Iaconis. This fresh, balanced, flavorful Chardonnay is sourced from Antica (Antinori's) Estate high on Atlas Peak. An UNBEATABLE value in single vineyard Napa Valley Chardonnay more than 50% off its typical price!

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "This sleek but powerful and concentrated wine offers enticing and deep black cherry, graphite and cocoa aromas followed by fine-grained tannins that tighten up as you sip. The wine is built for the long haul, needing time for more complexity to develop and the texture to soften. *Cellar Selection* (JG)" (04/2024) K&L Notes: The wines of Beau Vigne are now crafted cult winemaker Julien Fayard. 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Good Times, Bad Times is another beautiful wine in the lineup. Clearly the most California-styled wine in the portfolio, it nevertheless has plenty of structure. Blackcurrants, tobacco, spicy oak, leather, and incense notes all define the nose, and it’s full-bodied, with a round, voluptuous mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. It’s beautifully done and well worth seeking out. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming two decades." (02/2023) 94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Good Times, Bad Times Cabernet Sauv...

90 points James Suckling: "Notes of blackberries, cassis, herbs, walnuts and toasted cedar. Medium- to full-bodied, dry and a little chewy with a dusty texture to its tannins. Needs more fruit concentration in the middle, yet it’s fresh and flavorful." (05/2024) K&L Notes: 93 points, Tasting Panel: "Blended with 14% Merlot and aged 18 months in (50% new) French oak, the newly released 2021 vintage is a teeth-grabber. Dusty cocoa tannins display an affinity with cedar, wet stone, blackberry, dried violets, and beetroot. Still in its youth, the wine show...

Boutique winery Vinoce continues to impress. Little surprise when you consider their wines are made by much-heralded winemaker Keith Emerson of Vineyard 29! Emerson crafts some of the most highly sought-after cult Cabs in the valley from St. Helena fruit at Vineyard 29, including wines rated at 100-points by Robert Parker himself. Considering that pedigree, Vinoce's St. Helena Cab is very well priced at the regular $60 SRP, but at our Insider's Advantage price of over 50% off, it's just plain ridiculous.

Robert Parker writes of Prisoner Wine Company: "This winery, dedicated to négociant, relatively large-production cuvées of blended wines, was founded by the brilliant Dave Phinney and sold in 2009. Today the wines are made by the very talented Jen Beloz. These wines are distinctive, creative blends of exceptionally high quality, especially given the production totals that they achieve." Prisoner Wine Co. is now owned by Constellation Brands. From the winery: "The Prisoner was inspired by the 'mixed blacks' first made by the Italian immigrants who origina...

100 points Decanter: "The aromas of the 2021 Screaming Eagle are so precise and beautifully compact, giving a refined sense of finesse through savoury incense and dried spearmint intermixed with pure black fruit and graphite notes. On the palate, this medium-bodied wine opens up to an expansive mouthfeel with perfect concentration and depth of flavours, exuding black currants, just-picked blackberry, and Bing cherry, with a foundation of ironstone minerality. Palate etching tannins are multi-dimensional. It is a serious wine with tension, remarkable grip...

90 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon 1913 is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc and 3% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it gives up alluring notes of blackcurrant cordial, plum preserves and bouquet garni, plus suggestions of black olives and pencil lead. Full-bodied, generous and lively with loads of black fruit layers, it finishes long with a skip in its step. (LPB)" (10/2021)
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Alluring nuances of rose petal, tobacco and cinnamon lead into a ripe, chocolaty palate of black cherries, cocoa and raspberries as a soft, velvety texture achieves a very smooth mouthfeel. Deep ruby/plum-hued, with a kaleidoscope-like array of creme de cassis, jammy blackberries, spicy oak, graphite, and smoked tobacco, with a kiss of background chocolaty nuances, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a multi-dimensional, layered mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a flawlessly layered, concentrated, balanced profile t...

(01/2020) 95 points Vinous: "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Au Paradis, from Peter Michael's parcel in the hills of Eastern Oakville, is one of the successes of this trying vintage. 93 points Wine Spectator: "Boysenberry and açaí berry fruit gives this a slightly exotic profile, but it's finely stitched with apple wood, sassafras and singed anise notes to keep it honest. The polished finish lets a chaparral note chime through the flashy fruit. This should have fans for sure. Drink now through 2036. 90 points Wine Advocate: "Lastly, and an outstanding wine, is the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 100% estate fruit, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Anniversary. This is the best block of the entire vineyard and has produced some great wines (the 1992 and 1993 made by Helen Turley were fabulous wines). This shows plenty of creme de cassis fruit, notes of wet rocks, graphite, vanilla and berries, especially black raspberry and black currants. It is medium to full-bodied with light tannin and is close to full maturity, where is should hold for 7-10 more years. (RP)" ...

John Gilman: "The bouquet is deep and ripe, offering up scents of black cherries, sweet cassis, dark chocolate, cigar ash, bell pepper and vanillin oak. 94 points Wine Spectator: "Tremendous complexity, depth and richness, with sharply focused layers of currant, anise, cedar, tobacco and spice, firming on the finish, where the tannins are soft enough for the wine to be enjoyed now. (JL)" (02/2001) 91 points Vinous: "Medium red with a hint of amber. Red berries, coffee and earth on the fragrant nose, lifted by a minty nuance. Lively and firmly built, with its red berry and tobacco flavors conveying an attractive sweet/savory quality. This, too, struck me as a bit Saint Julien-like. Building tannins spre...

95 points Vinous: "A huge, voluptuous wine, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely gorgeous. In this vintage, the blend includes 10% Cabernet Franc, which seems to add structure and aromatic nuance. The 2012 is going to need time to shed some baby fat, but it is strikingly beautiful, even at this early stage. This voluptuous, racy Cabernet is pure 2012. (RP)" (06/2011) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Contains 67% To Kalon Vineyard fruit. Still a baby. Closed, brooding, very deep, very dry. Fabulous cassis fruit, a huge wine. 93 points Vinous: "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Howell Mountain has a little more depth than the 2011 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The bright savory and floral notes typical of the year meld into dark red cherries, raspberry jam, cloves, mint and pine. The balance of high-toned aromatics and plush fruit works beautifully here, as the elements play off each other nicely. This is a fairly approachable style for Howell Mountain, with relatively subdued tannins and terrific overall balance. Once again, Howell Mountain shows how favored it was in...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another perfect wine in the lineup is the 2019 The Absurd, and while I wasn’t able to get the blend or vineyard sources (they like to keep that a secret), it’s a thrilling, magical wine that tops out on my scale. More dense and concentrated than the Dr. Crane, especially on the mid-palate, it has an incredible, full-bodied, powerful style that carries ample darker cassis and blue fruits as well as scorched earth, tobacco, graphite, and violets. With a monster of a mid-palate, incredible tannins, no hard edges, and a level of puri...

100 points James Suckling: "The aromas to this are multidimensional and fascinating with black truffles, bark, cloves, black currants, citrus, and even ginseng. Full-bodied, yet reserved and austere with chewy and powerful tannins that remain polished and refined. The flavors are more umami and savory. Then there are forest fruits and blood-orange undertones. The wine goes on for minutes. A wine to age for a lifetime. It's an experience to taste this. A new classic showing its history and tradition as a source of the greatest wines ever from Napa. A wine...

95 points Wine & Spirits: "The top cabernets from 2013 continue to develop well—this relatively late release from Duckhorn has benefited from its time in bottle, feeling vibrant, with a dynamic interplay of tart cherry flavors and brisk, refreshing tannins. Renee Ary, who was promoted to lead winemaker at Duckhorn in 2014, blended this wine from estate-grown cabernet and purchased fruit; 45 percent of the lot aged in new French oak barrels, adding to the savory black-olive richness of the tannins, while the purple fruit drives past any direct impression ...

Aged 20 months in 75% new oak, it has a pure, layered, balanced, and full-bodied style as well as textbook notes of darker currants, tobacco leaf, new leather, and chocolate. Its oak is beautifully integrated, and again, the purity of fruit is remarkable. Drink it over the coming 15-20 years." (12/2021) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is up-front and approachable, with lush blackberry and cassis fruit as well as tobacco and some graphite notes. It is a big, spicy, rich and complex, and no shy wine at 15.9% alcohol. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. By Turley’s standards, these are relatively young vines – planted in the 1970s!
