2000 Margaux, Margaux
Back In Stock!
100 points Decanter: "Violet and iris aromatics curling out of the glass, starting to reach their full expression at 20 years old. Beautifully finessed and elegant, with hints of black truffle, cloves and rich blackberry fruits, this is a vintage that showcases the best of Margaux. It took its time to reach this point but it has been worth the wait, and the wine just gets better and better over a few hours in the glass. Highlights the success of the partnership between owner Corinne Mentzelopoulos and director Paul Pontantallier, with this château delive...

2019 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux
Back In Stock!
97 points Wine Advocate: "Derived exclusively from the château's holdings on the deep gravel soils of the plateau of Brane, the 2019 Brane-Cantenac has turned out brilliantly and merits a special effort to seek out. Wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, pencil shavings, violets, sweet loamy soil and cardamon, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a beautifully seamless, perfumed profile. Retaining all the estate's signature elegance but with an extra dimension of depth and intensity, it's ...

97 points Decanter: "Straight from the nose this makes you smile. It feels effortless and balanced, not breaking a sweat. The tannins are imperceptible but doing their job, and this is a great example of what you want a Margaux wine to do - it has incredible aromatics, tons of persistency, just keeps on going without losing power but also without trying too hard to impress. A smoky edge to the finish, this is intense with tons of cassis and blackberry, just a great wine with plenty of future ahead. A yield of 42hl/ha. (JA)" (12/2019) 96 points Jane Ans...

98 points James Suckling: "A wine with intense spice and berry character, with hints of sweet tobacco. It changes all the time from flowers to fruit and wet earth. Full-bodied, with super fine tannins and ripe fruit. It's long and juicy with lovely fruit. Super long and beautiful, with fine tannins that last for minutes. Tight now, but juicy and gorgeous. Best ever from here." (02/2012) 96 points Wine Advocate: "An inky/purple color is followed by notes of Asian plum sauce, forest floor, creme de cassis, black raspberries and a floral component that is...

97 points Wine Spectator: "No tasting note given." (07/1987) 91 points Wine Advocate: "In weight and texture, the 1981 Margaux is closest in style to the 1979. It is an outstanding wine, even in the company of the monumental wines of 1982, 1983, and 1986, although it does not have the power and weight of these vintages. It is still very dark ruby/purple-colored. The aromatics suggest ripe cassis fruit, spicy vanillin oakiness, and violets. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, concentrated, tannic, and extremely long. It is just beginning to open a...

2018 Marquis d'Alesme, Margaux
Back In Stock!
97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A rock star Margaux that should be snatched up by readers, the 2018 Château Marquis D'Alesme reveals a dense purple hue as well as ripe, sexy notes of blackcurrants, spicy oak, tobacco leaf, earth, and cedar. Deep, full-bodied, and gorgeously concentrated, it has velvety tannins, a layered, mouthcoating texture, and a great finish. It's a baby, but wow, what a wine. Hide bottle for 5-7 years if you can (you'll be forgiven for opening a bottle early) and it's going to evolve for 30-40 years." (03/2021) 94-95 points James Suckling...

94 points James Suckling: "This perhaps the best wine ever from here with a very powerful and rich body, yet it shows such polished and lively tannins. Chocolate, meat and spice undertones. Full and flavorful. Long finish. Drink in 2023." (02/2018) 94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Marquis d'Alesme Becker is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. It has a deep garnet-purple color and a broody, earthy/meaty nose over a core of crushed black currants, plum preserves and blackberry pie with hints of Indian ...

92 points John Gilman: "This bottle was served double blind and one of my friends guessed it very promptly. I was most impressed. He commented that we had once drunk the wine together and I noted that I did not recall ever having done so. It certainly predated my starting the newsletter, as I have no notes in my database, which stretch back to the early 2000s. In any case, kudos to Sasha for guessing the wine in a nano-second! The 1961 Château Lascombes is fully mature and drinking beautifully today, offering up a refined and complex bouquet of dark berr...

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. The wine has crisp fruit, layers of black currants and ample perfumed fruit. It's a bright wine, with a background of firm tannins. (RV) " (04/2017) 92 points James Suckling: "Aromas of wet earth, dried leaves and currants follow through to a medium body, fine tannins and a delicious finish. So fine and polished. Subtle. Hard not to drink now. Better after 2021. " (03/2019)
Price: $64.99

97 points Wine Spectator: "Exhibits blackberry, mineral, currant and dark chocolate. Full and velvety, with lots of fruit and chewy tannins. Long and caressing, with incredibly sweet fruit and tannins on the finish. Goes on for minutes. A thoroughly gorgeous wine. Best after 2015." (03/2008) 96 points Wine Advocate: "A beautiful wine, once again, from this property that has been on a superb qualitative roll for several decades. Dense ruby/purple with notes of graphite, background oak, youthful crème de cassis and blackberry fruit as well as a floral un...

" (07/2014) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Nicely focused, with dark plum, black currant and steeped black cherry fruit melded with charcoal, black tea and mocha. The long finish is plush in feel, but stays restrained. (JM)" (03/2012)

2019 Rauzan-Ségla, Margaux
Back In Stock!
98 points The Wine Independent: "The 2019 Rauzan-Segla is deep garnet-purple in color. It gallops out with bold notes of warm cassis, stewed plums, and cedar chest, followed by touches of clove oil, violets, and cardamom. The medium to full-bodied palate has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and lively acidity supporting the dense, muscular fruit, finishing long and earthy. It needs time!" (05/2023) 97 points Vinous: "The 2019 Rauzan-Ségla is a wine that I did not taste en primeur. Picked from September 12 to October 9 and matured in 60% new oak, it ha...

2011 Palmer, Margaux
Back In Stock!
96 points Wine Advocate: "The opaque blue/purple-colored 2011 Palmer reveals a stunning bouquet of licorice, truffles, camphor, spring flowers, black raspberries and black currants. One of the superstars of the vintage, this brilliant 2011 possesses superb concentration and purity, medium to full body, and remarkable length of close to a minute. A tour de force in winemaking, the Palmer team merits accolades for achieving this level of quality in a more challenging vintage than either 2009 or 2010. The 'wine of the vintage' in Margaux, tiny yields of 20 ...

" (02/2012) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A solid effort, with attractive, balanced black currant fruits and ripe acidity. The wine layers fruit and integrated tannins. It feels chunky and dense, finishing dry. " (02/2012) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Smoky and silky, with enticing black tea, mulled spice and fleshy plum and black currant fruit that melds nicely together through the tobacco...

2010 Rauzan-Ségla, Margaux (1.5L)
Back In Stock!
98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine that could easily be mistaken for a First Growth, the 2010 Rauzan-Ségla is an incredibly powerful, full-bodied wine by this estate’s standards, yet it nevertheless holds onto a terrific sense of elegance as well as perfect balance. A huge nose of blackcurrants, smoked earth, tobacco, lead pencil, and spice give way to a concentrated, blockbuster styled Margaux that has thrilling depth of fruit, masses of ripe tannins, and great length and finesse on the finish. This brilliant wine is just now seemingly on the edge of its dr...

91 points Decanter: "Deep in colour, with bold, brambly flavours and a sweet oak finesse on the finish. Its generosity of spirit is clear, and is ready to drink now and for another five years. A perfect 'by the glass' wine before supper. 3.81pH, 35% of production. (JA) " (11/2017)

1988 Prieuré-Lichine, Margaux (1.5L)
Back In Stock!
90 points Wine Spectator: "Tart, focused cherry and currant flavors struggle against a tide of tannin and succeed in making this a generous wine that needs to gain polish with cellaring..." (04/1991) Decanter: "Deep red; reserved nose, quite oaky, almost peppery; soft, rounded, quite concentrated, as enough sweet fruit to balance the high acidity, has Margaux typicity, balanced, though fades on finish; medium length." (06/1997) K&L Notes: This 1988 vintage Château Prieuré-Lichine was produced during the time that this fourth growth property (formerly...

90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of coffee bean, tobacco and plum follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a long finish. A little rustic, but rich and youthful. Chewy. It would be better with a bit more bottle age, but why bother?" (06/2009) Jancis Robinson: "Mid ruby with a pale rim. Very pretty, evolved, only slightly leafy nose. Very dry finish – still lots of acidity. Nose is much more beguiling than the slightly skinny, tart palate. Fresh finish does not linger but it is minty mouthwash fresh. 17/20 points. (JR)" (06/2011) Wine Ad...

2019 Alter Ego de Palmer, Margaux
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "Intense aromas of blackcurrants, cedar and ripe tobacco with hints of violets, following through to a full-bodied palate with extremely refined tannins that are well-integrated into the wine and are long and subtle at the finish. Such precision and harmony with structure. From biodynamically grown grapes. Best after 2023." (02/2022) 95 points Decanter: "Gorgeous rich dark purple in the glass. Quite jammy and concentrated on the nose, heady and perfumed with a lovely delicate florality to it too. Great freshness on the palate,...

98 points James Suckling: "Blackberries, plums, currants, tobacco and violets on the nose. Bitter chocolate and mocha, too. It’s refined and focused, with a medium to full body and firm, tightly-knit tannins. Very long, laser-focused and polished. Very classy. Best of the trilogy." (01/2023) 97 points Decanter: "Heady and expressive on the nose, seductive tones of ripe fruit and perfumed flowers. Gorgeous intensity on the palate, rich, round and ripe - gently chewy - but cool and refreshing too. This has a dynamic undercurrent with tannins that are fin...

100 points Decanter: "Beautifully rich even on the nose, this makes you smile from the first moment. On the palate things are intense and concentrated, as you might expect with an 11hl/ha yield (mildew-related). Upfront flavours major on big bitter chocolate with touches of smoke and grilled cedar, lots of savoury fruits and touches of reduction. Extremely impressive how layered and textured it is, though it really needs decades to reveal itself. There is the seductive floral edge of Palmer as it opens in the glass, but this is a muscular wine that needs...

91 points James Suckling: "Cherries, mulberries, mint chocolate and licorice on the nose. Fleshy and fruity with a medium body and chewy tannins. Not the most focused but has excellent freshness and transparency. Drink from 2024. " (05/2023) K&L Notes: The smallest in terms of hectares of all the classified growths. Wonderful aromas of Cassis and red fruits. Nice, eegant margaux palate entry. solid finish-great value.

94 points James Suckling: "Very floral with black currant and black cherry aromas with hints of lavender. Floral. Medium-bodied with firm and silky tannins that show beautiful length and polish. Goes on for a long time for the vintage. Classy. " (12/2023) 94 points Vinous: "The 2021 Malescot St. Exupéry is beautiful—a wine that isn't trying to be too much in this challenging vintage. Floral aromatics and silky tannins give this mid-weight edition of Malescot quite a bit of charm. All the elements are so nicely balanced. Crushed flowers, dark red/purpli...

100 points Jane Anson: "Power and enveloping aromatics from the first moment, this is bursting with pleasure, and so signature Margaux. Impossible not to love the depth and the spice that comes through from the first moment, with spirals of sandalwood, violets, crushed raspberries and cassis. Enticing and generous, and totally delicous. Still young, very much in it primary fruit phase, but you can begin to drink this now, such is the vibrancy of the tannins, but it will deliver for many decades to come. 2020 Alter Ego de Palmer, Margaux
New!
94 points Decanter: "Devilishly charming on the nose, deep and seductive, expressive and richly scented. Juicy and succulent but with a richness in terms of texture and depth. Seductive, defined and refined with a chalky, grip to the tannins. Feels rich and charming at the same time with blackcurrant, black cherry, blueberry, pomegranate and a touch of balsamic with an undercurrent of crushed stones and liquorice. A lovely second wine with clear ageing potential. (GH)" (01/2023) 93 points Jane Anson: "Layered cassis and blackberry fruit on the nose, a ...

(06/2022) 95-97 points Wine Advocate: "The late-ripening, low-yielding vintage has delivered a beautifully balanced wine of striking intensity in the 2021 Palmer. 93-95 points Vinous: "The 2021 Malescot St. Exupéry is another terrific wine from a property that has been trending towards finesse. The 2021 represents another step in that direction, helped by the vintage, of course. Red cherry, iron, blood orange, spice, tobacco and cedar build as this mid-weight, savory Margaux shows off its considerable charms. Pretty floral top notes accent the finish. Tasted two times. (AG)" (04/2022)

Medium-bodied with a polished, creamy texture, firm tannins and a chocolatey mouth-feel. Deep core of fruit and a meaty structure. Succulent and refined. Try after 2024 and onwards. " (03/2022) 92 points The Wine Independent: "The 2019 Angludet has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. Bid on this bottle of 1970 Giscours, Margaux (96JA, 94JG). Jane Anson: "Happy to report that the 1970 vintage at Giscours is still alive and well, showing why it is such an iconic bottle. Deep ruby in colour with just a hint of tawny rose around the edges, creamy autumnal fruits, softly spoken and delicate but generous, with an emphasis on floral aromatics. It hovers above the palate, with fresh juicy acidities cushioning the autumnal raspberry fruit, held in place by confident, long-limbed tannins and a mouthwatering finish. Holding on better than the 1982. Emily Peynaud consultant, Tari family owners." (02/2024)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2018 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux (97JS, 95JD, 95RP, 95VN, 95WS, 94TWI). James Suckling: "A seductive Margaux with an intense nose of black fruit and red plums. Some herb and wood notes, too. It’s full-bodied with pretty, pure-berry flavors with some crushed stones and cement. The texture is silky and fine-grained and the tannins melt into the wine. Precise, flavorful finish with length." (01/2021)
Current Bid: $150.00

Bid on this bottle of 1988 Margaux, Margaux (95WS, 93JS, 93RP, 92VN). Wine Spectator: "This has both sinew and flesh, with taut dried red currant, blackberry and plum skin notes that are forced to expand outward as the core of black tea, charcoal, plum paste and dark humus fills in quickly behind them. The charcoal-tinged grip carries the finish, with more bass than treble at first, but there's perfume here as well. Seriously long and the most overlooked of the truly great vintages here. *Ranked #6 in Top 100 Wines of 1991* (JM, Web—2014)" (11/2014)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Margaux, Margaux (99JS, 97JA, 97WE, 95DC, 95WS, 94RP, 94VN). James Suckling: "This marathon runner is currently in the no-man's land between youthful vitality and mellow maturity. There's a very serious tannin structure here, but it needs a lot longer to fully resolve. Very tight and closed. A perfect wine usually. But not today." (03/2019)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2016 d'Issan, Margaux (97JA, 96JS, (94-96WE), 95DC, 94JD, 94RP, 94VN). Jane Anson: "Tight and closed but clearly going to power out of the gate in five or six years. Shows depth and persistency, with precision and balance to the fruit flavours, feels like every base is covered, laced through with liquorice, cinnamon and black chocolate, and although there is power it has a light touch. A delicious wine, long life ahead, note it down for the future. " (12/2019)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux (95RP, 94JA, 94VN, 94WE, 92DC, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "A sexy, style of wine from the Lurtons at Brane-Cantenac, this wine (a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc) has a stunning nose of forest floor, licorice, blackcurrants, plums and spring flowers. Soft tannin, full-bodied opulence and beautifully textured, lush richness, make for a brilliant wine from this large, 180-acre vineyard. In spite of the wine’s stunning forward fragrance and lushness, the color still looks as if it is 3-4 years old, rather than a decade. This is a big-time winner in 2005 and should drink well for at least another 25+ years. (RP)" (06/2015)
Current Bid: $180.00

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2015 Giscours, Margaux (97WE, 96JS, 95DC, 95VN, 94RP, 93WS). Wine Enthusiast: "This firm wine shows the tannic side of the vintage. Those tannins are dusty, enriched with black-currant fruits and a dense backdrop. The wine is concentrated and elegant, very ageworthy and not likely to be ready before 2025. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (12/2017)

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Margaux, Margaux (96JA, 96W&S, 95DC, 92ST, 92VN, 91RP, 91WS). Jane Anson: "Owner Corinne Menzelopoulos said of the 1998: 'We came very close to making a great vintage', because the excellent weather was just thrown off course by rain at the beginning of harvest. It might not have the perfection of the 2009 vintage (one of my six 100 point wines given in 2022 tastings), but it's hard to argue with the supple, balanced and effortless pleasure offered by this bottle. Expect white truffle, soy, undergrowth, raspberry leaf, saffron, cassis, turmeric, brambled autumnal fruit and a kick of orange peel giving focus and grip on the finish. 50% of crop in 1st wine. Paul Pontallier technical director, 100% new oak." (05/2022)

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2004 Lascombes, Margaux (93RP, 92JA, 91ST, 90W&S) and 1-bottle of 2005 Lascombes, Margaux (94W&S, 93WS, 91WE, 90ST, 90VN). Of the 2005 Lascombes, Margaux, Wine & Spirits writes: "A joyous Lascombes, this is the first vintage to hit stride since the US investment firm Colony Capital took over in 2001. It's a meaty wine draped in fragrant tannin, built for long aging. It's also an exuberant wine, in both the bright, red currant-scented fruit and the bristle of the tannin. A playfully complex flavor lasts for minutes, the wine still youthful and fresh four days after it was opened. Margaux chic." (03/2008)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2017 Margaux, Margaux (99JS, 98JD, 98RP, 97JA, 97TWI, 97VN, 96WE, 95WS). James Suckling: "There is ripeness and opulence to this, in an almost exotic and sassy way. Crushed berries with chocolate and spice. Floral and cashmere undertones. This starts off slowly and just rolls off the palate with beautifully polished tannins and a salty, minerally note to the long, extended tannins. Really brilliant. So classy. Structured. " (01/2020)
