Top Pick!
This Chianti is 95% Sangiovese and comes from the La Tancia estate, which was originally built in the 14th century during the reign of the Medicis. The property is now owned by winemaker Domenico Silla. Winery tasting notes: "An intense and deep ruby red color with floral notes of violets and iris combined with a typical character of red fruits. It has a harmonious, dry and savory flavor."

Vibrant and balanced, with a lingering aftertaste of dark fruit, earth and spice notes. 2020 Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico
Top Pick!
92 points James Suckling: "Plums, cherry stones, button mushrooms, white pepper and bark on the nose. Lemon and cardamom too. Medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and fine, powdery tannins. Savory. " (06/2022) 91 points Vinous: "The 2020 Chianti Classico Berardenga is a classic Fèlsina wine. It can be enjoyed now or cellared for 10-15 years. Classic Fèlsina savory, floral and tobacco accents play off a core of sweet Sangiovese fruit. This heady, strapping wine has a ton to offer. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous aromatic presence. 91 points James Suckling: "A seductive nose of plums, wild raspberries, fresh cherries, sage, pine cones, white pepper and musk. Medium-bodied with finely knit tannins. Creamy and soft finish. Drink or hold." (07/2022) 90 points Vinous: "The 2020 Chianti Colli Senesi is bold, powerful and super-expressive. Cedar, tobacco, leather, dried herbs and perfumed earthy undertones give the 2020 its distinctive aromatic profile. This mid-weight, layered Colli Senesi has a ton to offer. The purity of the fruit comes through nicely, especially with air. It's Coll...

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2020 Chianti Classico is ripe with juicy red and black berry fruit, offering notes of candied black raspberry, crushed violet, and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and savory, with tart black cherry, orange oil, fine tannins, and dusty earth, it has a driving persistent energy through the mid-palate and is harmonious in its balance between its more youthful primary fruit and light savory touch throughout. (AF)" (01/2023) 92 points Vinous: "The 2020 Chianti Classico is striking. Bright, punchy and vibrant, the 2020 possess...

From the importer: "The owner, Piero Lanza, believes in an almost fanatical attention to vineyard work. His goal is to set the stage for healthy vines, and ultimately, beautiful wines, by caring for the land holistically, in rhythm with the seasons, and as custodian for its natural biodiversity and richness. The results are healthy grapes with the highest degree of concentration and ripeness, perfectly reflective of their unique Tuscan terroir. The wines produced combine a richness and concentration of fruit, acidity, and tannin—indispensable to the wine...

98 points Vinous: "The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is quite possibly the most elegant, refined version of this wine I have ever tasted. It does not offer the immediacy or impact of either the 2015 or 2016, but, instead, impresses with its elegance, persistence and total class. Bright floral and spice notes add perfume to a core of red-toned fruit. The 2018 represents another move towards greater finesse at Fontodi. It spent a year in French oak barrel and a second year in cask. (AG)" (11/2021) 96 points James Suckling: "Beautif...

2019 Poggerino "Bugialla" Chianti Classico Riserva
Top Pick!
92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Bugialla is a dark, powerful wine. Black cherry, incense, leather and spice give this virile Riserva plenty of complexity. All that is missing is perhaps a bit of freshness. Even so, the 2019 is impressive, especially in terms of its depth and overall substance. AG" (06/2022)
Price: $44.99

90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2019 Chianti Classico Primocolle is lifted with ripe red cherry, iron-rich earth, and fresh leather. Medium-bodied, with some meaty iron minerality on the palate, it has fine tannins and a broad richness. The palate is dry and savory, with tangerine, turned soil, and fresh salinity. This lovely red is drinking beautifully now and will continue to drink well over the next 6-8 years. (AF)" (01/2023) 90 points James Suckling: "Lovely sweet-cherry and orange-peel aromas follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and livel...

94 points Vinous: "The 2012 Vin Santo is compelling, as it so often is. Caramel, honey, brown sugar and kirsch are some of the many notes that build effortlessly. In 2012, the Vin Santo is not quite as opulent as it can be, but that is probably a good thing in this case. (AG) " (06/2023)

2019 Fèlsina "Rancia" Chianti Classico Riserva (Elsewhere $60) (Elsewhere $60)
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Darker fruit on the nose with walnut, spice box, incense and espresso bean, too. Medium-bodied, firm and structured with polished tannins and a creamy, compact mid-palate. Quality dark oak spice throughout. Long and rich. " (07/2022) 94 points Wine Advocate: "An icon wine of Tuscany, the Fèlsina 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia (with 48,000 bottles made) is distinguished by its special aromatic fingerprint that truly brings us to a sense of place. At its heart, the wine reveals dark fruit and plum. More interesting, howev...

94 points James Suckling: "A very pure and beautiful red with cherry and strawberry. Subtle spice, such as nutmeg and cedar. Orange peel, too. Medium to full body. Firm, silky tannins melt nicely into the wine. Fresh and clean finish. A little tight at the end. A beautiful single-vineyard Chianti Rufina with structure." (08/2021) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Savory, balsamic aromas and flavors of wild herbs and Tuscan scrub are a nice foil for the ripe cherry and macerated plum fruit in this expressive red, which is balanced and lively on the long finish...

90 points Vinous: "The 2019 Valpolicella Classico Superiore Sanperetto is vivid with its mix of freshly-cut roses, stems and all, wild strawberries and wet slate. This coasts along a core of cool-toned acids with a pure display of wild berry fruits and hints of savory spice. It finishes with medium length and leaves a fresh impression, as hints of licorice fade. (EG)" (01/2022)

96 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Crushed mint, woodland berry and violet aromas come to the forefront on this chiseled, savory red. All about finesse and energy, it’s vibrant and delicious, delivering juicy red cherry, ripe raspberry and baking spice alongside taut, polished tannins. Bright acidity keeps it perfectly balanced. " (12/2022) 94 points James Suckling: "This has a perfumed nose of wild cherries, strawberries, sandalwood, peppercorns, cloves, rosemary and truffles. Elegant and refined, with firm, fine tannins. 2019 Fèlsina "Colonia" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione
Top Pick!
96 points Wine Spectator: "A racy style defined by black cherry, blackberry, black currant, Tuscan scrub and mineral aromas and flavors, this red is linear and well-delineated. Like a thoroughbred, this has latent energy and is ready to run, given time to align all its components. Shows a stony, mineral aftertaste. (BS)" (10/2023) 95 points Wine Advocate: "The Fèlsina 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is a special wine. This vintage was a little tight and closed when I tasted it, but Colonia has a solid track record for a long bottle evoluti...

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Spicy and brooding, the 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva shows off its depth with cherry liqueur, black licorice candy, lavender, and leather. It is medium to full-bodied, with ripe, present tannins and notes of black raspberry, dried sage, and warming baked earth. Its structure and savory herbal side beg to be served alongside a Florentine or rich cut of steak drizzled liberally with olive oil. 93+" (01/2023) 93 points James Suckling: "Intense nose of dried flowers, cigar box, chocolate, tobacco, dried cherries and plums. 92 points Wine Advocate: "The estate's 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva shows the pedigree of this superb Tuscan vintage in its expansive, layered personality. The wine develops beautifully in the glass as tar, smoke, earthiness, underbrush, menthol, toasted oak and dark cherries emerge from its medium-bodied frame. This terrific Chianti should continue to drink well for another decade or so. (AG)" (06/2008) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Polished and refined, this is an elegant expression of Sangiovese from the Berardenga area of Tuscany. The wine is long-...

98 points James Suckling: "The aromas and structure to this single vineyard Chianti Classico are something else this year. The orange-peel, meat and cherry aromas are lifted and spirited. It’s medium-bodied with firm, chewy tannins that are dusty and fine-grained. Structured and sturdy with a granite-like presence." (06/2022) 98 points Wine Advocate: "This is my favorite wine among this group of new releases from Barone Ricasoli. 2019 Fèlsina Fontalloro Toscana (Elsewhere $70) (Elsewhere $70)
Top Pick!
96 points James Suckling: "A fresh and crunchy Fontalloro with currants, orange peel and hints of peaches and cedar. Medium body, firm and fine tannins and a crisp and bright finish. Lots of energy and verticality to this! " (07/2022) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Composed entirely of Sangiovese, the 2019 Fontalloro is a compelling wine, with layers of graphite, leather, cherry licorice, and Mediterranean herbs. Medium to full bodied, it has a weightless feel, although it is not lacking for concentration and ripe tannins. This continues to improve and evolve...

96 points Wine Spectator: "A muscular red, with iron, almond, tar and underbrush aromas that provide a savory element to the core of cherry and blackberry fruit. Dense, dusty tannins and a vein of mineral lend austerity as this announces "hands off" on the tightly wound finish. Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Best from 2026 through 2045. (BS)" (10/2023) 95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Poggio is 95% Sangiovese and the rest Colorino and Canaiolo. 93 points Decanter: "Established by Austrian Karl Egger in 2012, Tenuta di Carleone boasts winemaker Sean O’Callaghan at the helm. He applies organic and biodynamic practises in the vineyard, spontaneous fermentations, a small percentage of whole bunches, long macerations, no fining and minimal sulphur, all in the name of maximum flavour and texture. The 2020 takes time to come into focus but then unfurls with evocative floral scents of rose, violet and red currant blossoms. It achieves lightness with sneaky structure; a textural symphony of suede-like t...

94 points Vinous: "The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto San Marcellino is potent, but also shockingly closed for this dry, warm year. Readers will have to be patient with the 2017 as it needs quite a bit of time to be at its best. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, cloves and licorice all build into the huge, explosive finish. There's tremendous substance here, not to mention tons of sheer character. (AG)" (06/2022) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "Marco Ricasoli’s vineyards are located in the Monti area, in the southern sector of Gaiole. His 20...

Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2012 Montemercurio "Damo" Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (94VN, 91WE), 1-bottle of 2015 Antinori Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione (94JS, 94RP, 94VN, 93DC, 93WS, 90WE), and 1-bottle of 2016 Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva (95WS, 94DC, 94W&S, 93KO, 92RP, 92VN). Of the 2016 Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva, Wine Spectator writes: "An intriguing note of orange peel joins black cherry, blackberry, wild rosemary and iron flavors in this sleek, firmly structured red. Bid on this 3 liter of 2012 Fontodi "Vigna del Sorbo" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione (3L) (98VN, 95JS, 93RP, 92WE, 92WS). Vinous: "The 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is stunningly beautiful. At the same time, I have to report that the window for tasting the 2012 as a young wine appears to be closing. The density of the fruit and creaminess of the tannins are still evident if somewhat less obvious than they were a year ago, while the aromatics aren't quite as explosive as they have been in the past. The wine's depth and intensity suggest the 2012 will be fabulous once it emerges from its current period of dormancy. In this tasting, the 2012 shows a more red fruit and lifted profile than the 2013, where the flavors are darker. (AG)" (07/2016)
