86-89 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A very ripe yet nicely fresh nose speaks of pepper and liqueur-like dark berry aromas. The sleek, intense and delicious flavors possess very good energy on the solidly complex and lingering finish. This is ripe yet it retains good vibrancy that renders it quite appealing. *Outstanding* " (04/2020)

Château de la Charrière is the family property of Yves Girardin, scion of one the most established families in Burgundy, with a history extending back 13 generations. Yves and his son Benoit farm 21.5 hectares of domaine holdings, and since Benoit has taken over the winemaking after finished his studies in Beaune and Bordeaux, the wines have truly taken on a refined and focused character that belies their incredibly affordable price points. We've direct importing these wines for a number of years now, and they've more than capably stood up as some of the...

2018 Château de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet
Top Pick!
Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This too is sufficiently reduced at present to require aeration. By contrast there is good freshness to the delicious, succulent and round medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a very dry and even slightly austere finale. This moderately firm effort will require at least a few years to unwind first." (06/2020)
Price: $59.99

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is aromatically quite similar to the Perclos but with more floral influence. There is equally good richness to the slightly rounder and more seductive flavors that aren't quite as energetic but do offer a bit more depth on the youthfully austere and notably drier finale. While qualitatively similar, these two wines possess different personalities." (06/2020) K&L Notes: Allen Meadows writes: "Sylvain Langoureau has been directing this 9 ha domaine since 1989 which he says is now farmed entirely organically."
Price: $49.99

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here too there is a hint of petrol to the layered aromas of resin, white orchard fruit and a floral top note. There is fine volume to the nicely rich medium-bodied flavors that are slightly drier on the refreshing, indeed bracing finish that is a bit more structured." (06/2020) K&L Notes: Allen Meadows writes: "Sylvain Langoureau has been directing this 9 ha domaine since 1989 which he says is now farmed entirely organically."

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is the first wine to display any appreciable reduction and it's enough to overshadow what appears to be ripe fruit. There is fine volume and punch to the well-detailed middle weight flavors that flash evident minerality on the energetic if somewhat attenuated finish. I suspect that the sulfur that is causing the reduction is also responsible for the attenuated finish and thus my rating assumes that once the post-bottling sulfur is absorbed, it will ameliorate both problems. *Outstanding* " (06/2020)
Price: $79.99

93 points James Suckling: "This has old-vine concentration and is quite tightly wound. Aromas of flint, lemon peel, peach and hazelnut with a palate that has smoothly layered style with fresh peach, lemon and honey-glazed hazelnut. Bold, concentrated and seamless." (11/2020) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Opening with notes of pear, white flowers, wheat toast and struck match, Pierre-Yves Colin's 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with a tightly wound core, incisive acids and superb mid-...

2018 Château de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Dent de Chien"
Top Pick!
94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Firm reduction renders the nose completely unreadable. However, it is immediately evident that the classy and super-sleek flavors are something special with the abundance of minerality that adds lift to the hugely long, palate coating and bone-dry finale. This is an absolute knockout and one of the best 1ers of the vintage, indeed it rivals the domaine's Bâtard in 2018, if not in sheer size and weight then in class and sophistication. *Don't Miss, Outstanding*" (06/2020)
Price: $249.99

Allen Meadows writes: "Jean-Pierre Cournut enthusiastically noted that 2018 is 'the best vintage that I have ever made in red and it's a very good one in white. Volumes were slightly lower than they were in 2017 but still very good so no complaints there. Potential alcohols were good in both colors but somewhat higher for the whites at between 13.3 and 13.8%. As to the style of the reds, they have so much baby fat that they should drink well young but because there is so much underlying material, they should have no trouble aging as well.'"

94-96 points Vinous: "The 2018 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has an impressive bouquet of mineral-rich citrus fruit, smoke, honeysuckle and jasmine aromas, complex and alluring. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, with plenty of tangerine and grapefruit notes, but it is the mineralité and tension that really elevate this Grand Cru. For once, this might outperform the La Cabotte. (NM)" (01/2020) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Fragrant, this white delivers forthcoming aromas of seashore, hazelnut, peach and white flowers. It's creamy and vib...

94 points James Suckling: "Complex aromas of dried apples, apricots, basil and matchstick. Full-bodied with layers of fruit and a fascinating combination of ripe fruit, smoke and lemon grass. Long and very flavorful." (08/2020) 92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Wisps of resin, petrol and wood sit atop the mostly white flower and citrus -scented nose. There is fine volume and equally good vibrancy to the nicely mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that exhibit fine length on the balanced finish where the citrus character flashed by the nose reeme...

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet touch of wood sets off the ripe and equally fresh aromas of black raspberry, poached plum, violet and warm earth. The supple yet serious medium weight flavors possess good energy before concluding in a saline, better-balanced and nicely complex finish." (04/2020)
Price: $59.99

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of spicy cassis, cherries and dried flowers introduce the 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet Village (Rouge), a medium-bodied wine with a crunchy core of fruit and a light framing of youthfully chewy tannins. Since Domaine Ramonet only presents bottled wines for tasting these days, this was my first look at the 2016 vintage from this important address, a year that saw Chassagne-Montrachet ravaged by frost. Despite the obstacles, Jean-Claude Ramonet has produced a superb set of wines that are impressively consistent, endowed...

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A more elegant nose is attractively floral with an appealing array of layered aromas that include those of pear and apple compote as well as a touch of spice tea. The very supple and not especially dense flavors compensate by their beguiling refinement on the well-detailed and wonderfully complex finale that exhibits just a touch of youthful austerity. *Outstanding*" (06/2020)
Price: $79.99

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The reduction displayed by the first few wines is back and it's enough that I would suggest decanting this for 15 minutes or so first if you don't have the patience to wait until maturity. Otherwise there is a positively gorgeous mouthfeel to the delicious flavors that, like the Morgeot, are not especially dense yet manage to be highly seductive, all wrapped in a clean, dry and beautifully complex finale. This too is a really lovely effort that should drink well over an extended period, even young. *Outstanding*" (06...

95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This presently has the same nose as the Corton-Charlemagne as it's both reduced and mildly woody though I would not expect this to persist beyond the first few years as the reduction is not heavy. There is once again outstanding volume and concentration as well as impressive size, weight and richness to the highly seductive big-bodied flavors that possess a plenitude of dry extract that both coats the palate and buffers the firm acid spine shaping the gorgeously long and well-balanced finale. In 2014 this more resemb...

89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe if restrained nose shyly reflects notes of resin, pear, apple and an admirably discreet dollop of wood. There is fine volume and surprisingly good power to the vibrant and mouth coating medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and persistence. This is an excellent Chassagne villages and worth considering. *Outstanding Top Value*" (06/2020) K&L Notes: 87-90 points, Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "First to be picked. 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is a hint of exoticism to the citrus, pear and white peach suffused nose that is trimmed in a whiff of toasted tangerine peel. The rich and highly energetic flavors possess a good amount of dry extract as well as excellent length on the stony, clean and markedly dry finish. This beautiful effort possesses an interesting flavor profile as the mouthfeel is lilting yet authoritative. One to look for. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding* " (06/2020)
Price: $139.99

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exuberantly fresh nose offers up pungent aromas of rosemary oil, resin, mineral reduction and plenty of citrus elements. The medium weight flavors are finer still with excellent cut and punch where an abundance of salinity renders the dry and strikingly long finish quite refreshing. This is notably tightly wound and is going to require at least some patience. *Outstanding* " (06/2020)
Price: $119.99

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A pungent and very Chassagne nose reluctantly reveal its aromas of petrol, resin, rosemary oil along with plenty of citrus elements. There is once again very good intensity to the solidly voluminous flavors that are shaped by lemon-tinged acidity on the impressively powerful and lingering finish. This is a very good Chassagne villages. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (06/2020) K&L Notes: 88-90 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "From 7 plots on white soil. Graceful light yellow with a softly accessible nose. There is good weigh...

90-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here the nose is quite firmly reduced and essentially unreadable today. More interesting are the highly energetic and intensely stony ultra-refined flavors that exhibit excellent persistence on the focused and balanced finale. This classy effort is a wine of finesse and should drink reasonably well young but reward up to a decade of cellaring. In short, this is really lovely juice." (06/2020)

93 points Decanter: "Pillot has 1.23ha in this particularly good Saint-Aubin terroir that abuts Chassagne Les Chaumes, and it is planted to east-facing, 50-year-old vines on the slope of the hill. It ferments in older casks to preserve the purity of the ripe pear fruit, which is accompanied by notes of white flowers. There is still a salty tang on the palate and a rich, slightly fat texture that is gratifying, indeed. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039. (CC)" (10/2020) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Exhibiting aromas of pear, warm bread, orange ...

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Soft whispers of matchstick and smoke add a bit of breadth to the ripe white-fleshed fruit aromas that are trimmed in a deft application of wood. The delicious and nicely vibrant medium-bodied flavors possess both a finer texture as well as slightly better precision if not quite the same richness, all wrapped in a bitter lemon-suffused finish. I like the balance and generosity, and this should age effortlessly." (06/2020) K&L Notes: 91-93 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Pale lemon colour with a fine racy ...

90-92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet La Concis de Champs offers scents of gunflint and wilted white flowers on the nose. The palate is well balanced with a taut, lightly spiced entry. Peach skin and Braeburn apples furnish the finish with a subtle flinty aftertaste erring this towards Puligny. Very fine. (NM)" (12/2020) 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of peach, orange oil and fresh bread preface the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Le Concis du Champs, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and textural wine that's muscular a...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc (Récolte du Domaine) is showing very well, mingling aromas of crisp orchard fruit and white flowers with hints of almond paste, vanilla pod and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and charming, with lively acids and a saline finish, it's a worthy follow-up to the fine 2017 rendition. (WK)" (01/2021)
Price: $119.99

90-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Moderate reduction once again suppresses the underlying fruit though it does seem ripe. More interesting are the slightly bigger and richer flavors that manage to retain pretty good delineation on the attractively textured and vibrant finale where the only reproach is a hint of warmth." (06/2020) K&L Notes: 90-93pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Clear bright lemon. Biscuity toast on the nose, perhaps the oak speaking. There is substantial muscle to this, all in white fruit, some clay soil flesh, a little lemon...

94 points Decanter: "From a parcel in the flatter, warmer terroir, with richer soils that give this wine a riper fruit which is more orchard than citrus fruit. There is a slightly fat character on the palate that some will find attractive, yet this never loses its incisive structure and still shows plenty of mineral depth, as Pillot has worked hard to conserve the lively freshness of the wine. Drinking Window 2024 - 2039. (CC)" (10/2020) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gain was the first sit...

87-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is that same whisper of pepper on the ripe nose of cassis and poached plum that is liberally laced with earth nuances. The intense and the well-detailed if not especially dense middle weight flavors possess a beguiling vibrancy on the mocha-inflected rustic finish." (04/2020)
Price: $44.99

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, white flowers, beeswax, orange oil and warm bread, the 2019 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard is medium to full-bodied, layered and searingly intense, with a chiseled, chalky profile and a long, saline finish. This is a serious Saint-Aubin, manifestly built for the long haul. 88-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Once again there is a trace of sulfur but in this case it's sufficiently light to allow glimpses of white orchard fruit, petrol and rosemary oil scents. The delicious if not particularly concentrated flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel before concluding in a balanced, clean and solidly complex finale. I suspect that this will benefit significantly from a few years of bottle age to add body as well as a bit more overall depth." Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's deep and complete, with fine concentration and bright balancing acids. (WK)" (01/2021) 90-92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle 1er Cru is well-defined on the nose, offering scents of honeysuckle and yellow plum, then lemon ...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another cuvée that mandates a comparatively early harvest is the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Village, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and fleshy wine that's bright and saline, with good cut to balance its generosity of fruit. This is already showing very well. Joseph Colin—who left Domaine Marc Colin to start a domaine of his own in 2016—is going from strength to strength and is justly delighted with his 2019 portfolio. "We've never had acidities like this with maturity like this," he exclaimed, emphasizing the im...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Open and charming, Colin's 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes mingles aromas of ripe Anjou pear and yellow apple with hints of stone fruit, white flowers and buttery pastry. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and nicely defined, its gourmand core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids. Damien Colin reported that his yields were some 30% below average and that the crop ripened rapidly, "even very rapidly." Indeed, having projected a September 15 start, he began picking on September 7. Alcohol levels...

92-94 points Vinous: "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vides Bourses 1er Cru is compelling on the bouquet with white chocolaty and shaved almond flakes complementing the orange pith and dessicated orange peel scents. The palate is very well balanced with a saline entry. A fine bead of acidity here and a very compact finish that augur for a Chassagne that will benefit from 3-5 years in the cellar. Great potential. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Notes of pear, white flowers, wheat toast, honeycomb and apricot introduce Colin's 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered wine that's simultaneously gourmand and chiseled, reflecting the combination of ripeness and acidity that defines the vintage at its best. Joseph Colin—who left Domaine Marc Colin to start a domaine of his own in 2016—is going from strength to strength and is justly delighted with his 2019 portfolio. "We've never had acidities like this with...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Colin's 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru En Cailleret—note the change in orthography—is showing very nicely, unwinding in the glass with scents of pear, orange oil, white flowers and clear honey. Medium to full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's satiny and incisive, with racy acids, chalky structuring extract and a long, mineral finish. Joseph Colin—who left Domaine Marc Colin to start a domaine of his own in 2016—is going from strength to strength and is justly delighted with his 2019 portfolio. "We've never...

91-93 points Vinous: "The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Margot", the name of this particular cuvée rather than the lieu-dit, comes from four parcels and is raised in 15% new oak. It has a well defined bouquet with orange pith and yellow plum aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The palate is full of energy with impressive depth, gorgeous orange zest and mandarin notes, almond and a little walnut. Very harmonious and very persistent on the finish, this punches well above its weight. (NM)" (12/2020) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "...

93-95 points Vinous: "Knockout nose combines lemon, lime, white peach, white pepper and crushed stone. Utterly suave and fine-grained but given grip by serious mineral tension. This, too, is a superb expression of terroir. Finishes very dry, saline and classic, with slowly building length; really glistens and vibrates on the aftertaste. (ST)" (09/2018) 91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet application of wood can be found on the intensely floral-suffused aromas that exhibit additional nuances of spice, white peach, jasmine tea and the bar...

88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is better freshness and almost no sulfur on the petrol, citrus and resin-suffused nose. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is both suave and succulent while possessing good depth on the nicely refined and persistent finale. Like the straight Chassagne villages, this isn't particularly dense, but I like the poise and overall balance." (06/2020) 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "More mineral and incisive than its communal sibling, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Mazures offers up notes o...

92-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "In much the same fashion as the Chenevottes, touches of smoke and matchstick characters are present on the softly exotic aromas of passion fruit, white peach, citrus and pretty floral nuances. The succulent and seductive yet powerful broad-shouldered flavors possess very good mid-palate density while exhibiting first-rate complexity on the firmly structured, long and serious finale. Patience definitely advised for this beauty." (06/2020) 95 points Decanter: "Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey's two 85-year-old parcels sit ...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte Grand Cru is also showing very well from bottle, opening in the glass with a lovely bouquet of crisp green orchard fruit, citrus oil, white flowers, blanched almonds and wheat toast. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with a deep and layered core, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish. While this can't quite match the mid-palate volume of the Montrachet, it certainly nods to Montrachet in style. (WK)" (01/2020) 93-95 points Vinous: "The 2017...
Price: $7,750.00

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "As is typically the case, this is slightly riper than the regular cuvée though the nose is moderately reduced today and harder to read. There is excellent richness here too but also relatively good detail to the big, powerful and broad-shouldered flavors that possess terrific intensity on the explosive and hugely long finish. This wine has a tendency to more resemble either Chevalier or Montrachet depending on the vintage and I would observe that in 2015 it's more the latter than the former. I would add that while th...

97 points James Suckling: "This has incredible aromatic definition with lemons, limes and grapefruit, as well as stony elements with oranges and praline. The palate has a beautifully precise feel with very bright citrus and white peaches, leading to gentle lime-marmalade and hazelnut notes to close. Super long, focused and already approachable. Drink or hold." (02/2019) 94-96 points Vinous: "Captivating nose melds tangerine zest, lemon, lime, clove, anise, white pepper and crushed stone, complicated by an exotic hint of passion fruit and lifted by meta...
