About the producer: "Nalle Winery is about as "family" as it gets. Son Andrew runs the joint, while father and mother Doug and Lee Nalle give wisdom from 31 years of winery experience. Younger son Sam, a scientist in San Francisco, gives encouragement and support. Then there's our bevy of friends who magically appear at the right moment to lend a hand. Steve Edgar, from Arizona, still shows up for crush, and has, since 1991. Our winery and home rest on land that has been in Lee's family, the Henderlongs, since 1927. Her cousins, the Saini family, run the...
94 points James Suckling: "This zinfandel-dominant field blend is ripe, delicious and lush, with light, spicy oak accents over plump blackberries, blueberries and vanilla bean. Saturated and opulent but not fat, as moderate tannins and some raspberry-like acidity balance the full body. 67% zinfandel, 20% carignan, 10% petite sirah and 3% mataro." (05/2024) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Deeply structured and bright with acidity, this combines power with grace. Black cherry and dark plum flavors take on licorice, green peppercorn and Asian five-spice accent...

"Aged in French oak wine barrels for twelve months with distinct characteristics of fruit and subtle oak" sounds more like a description of wine than beer. However, Temptation is indeed beer. Temptation is a Blonde Ale aged in French oak chardonnay barrels with Brettanomyces. Flavors of wine and oak absorb into the brew throughout its aging. Temptation is re-fermented in the bottle to create its carbonation--a process commonly used to make fine champagne and sparkling wine. Spent yeast forms a thin layer of sediment to remain in the bottle. 7.25%ABV / 1....

96 points Wine Advocate: "The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Aperture's estate vineyard in Healdsburg and their newest vineyard acquisition, Farrow Ranch in Alexander Valley, plus some of the original single vineyards in the Aperture program like Oliver Ranch. It is blended with 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc and was matured for 16 months in 55% new French oak. It has vibrant, layered aromas of blueberry compote, lavender, aniseed, milk chocolate and nutmeg with undertones of cast iron and tobacco leaves. The medium-bodie...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2014 Innovant Red Wine is beautiful, with a ripe, upfront, charming style that’s hard to not drink. Plums, black cherries, leady herbs and a kiss of graphite all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, textured effort that still holds onto the firm, age-worthy style present in all these releases. This beauty can safely be drunk anytime over the coming 10-12 years." (12/2017) 91 points Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Red Wine Innovent is a little closed at this youthful stage, reveali...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A bright straw color, the 2022 Chardonnay Russian River Valley is fresh and aromatic with notes of flinty, ripe, fresh apple, candied lemon, a savory, lightly herbaceous touch, and a hint of wet stone. Medium to full-bodied, it’s elegant and long on the palate, with a delicate saline touch and a balanced feel throughout. It is phenomenal wine and shows off the versatility of this vintage with ease. Drink it over the next 10 or more years. (AF)" (06/2024) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Oozing with character, this succulent and mouthw...

97 points The Wine Independent: "Medium to deep ruby-purple in color, the 2022 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard comes barreling out with bold notes of fresh blackberries and black cherries opening out to suggestions of anise, garrigue, and lilacs. The medium-bodied palate reveals impactful black berry flavors with wonderfully spicy accents supported by grainy tannins and great tension, finishing long with a minerally lift. This is an all Calera vineyard. (LPB) " (06/2024) 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From the estate’s top vineyard, planted with 100% Calera clone...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A seductive nose of pineapple, pear, vanilla and buttered toast leads, followed by a nicely knit, well-fruited, but not-at-all sweet palate. Here, pear, melon, pineapple and tangerine is offset by light toast and vanilla accents. Balanced and smoothly textured, it shows graceful restraint that suggests it will improve over the next year or two. " (07/2001)

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The influence of sur lie aging marks this wine, with an almost Champagne-like yeastiness. It's also quite oaky. That combo of dough and caramel tends to mask the pineapple jam and lemon custard flavors. Should develop through 2010. Don't drink too cold. " (04/2009) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A rich, exotic style, this is full-blown yet elegant and refined, showcasing ripe fig, melon, honeysuckle and citrus notes that are clean and focused. Long and detailed on the finish. (JL)" (02/2009)

(JL)" (12/2005) K&L Notes: The Martinelli family are longtime Russian River Valley growers who, in the 1990s, teamed up with winemaker and consultant Helen Turley to produced estate-bottled wines from a portion of their vineyard's fruit, and attracted the favorable attention of wine critic Robert Parker.

Approachable on the palate, it offers ripe tannins, a supple texture, and a nice lift of freshness on the finish. It is a charmer for sure and is going to offer a wide drinking window over the coming 10-12 years. Bottled unfiltered. 92 points The Wine Independent: "The 2022 Chardonnay comes bounding out of the glass with eager-to-please notes of juicy ripe pears, yellow apples, and powdered ginger with touches of acacia honey and lightly buttered toast. The medium-bodied palate has lovely harmony, with a satiny texture and a spicy kick to the finish. This wine was barrel fermented and aged in French oak. Native strains were used for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation and the wine is unfined and unfiltered. The Russian River Valley Chardonnay is a barrel selection from all of Hart...

93 points Vinous: "The 2022 Pinot Noir Cuvée Alyce shows the riper side of the year in its flavor profile, textural breadth and overall feel. Succulent dark cherry, plum, lavender, menthol and cloves fill out the layers, while polished tannins wrap it all together in style. For the first time, the blend includes some 943 Clone to complement the traditional mix of 777, 115 and 114 used in this bottling."

Medium to full-bodied with black currants, ripe blackberry and black cherry notes framed by velvety tannins laced with that irresistible vanillin note. The palate is vibrant and salty with green valley character, revealing finely coiled tannins, mouthwatering acidity, a saline mineral flourish, and a long finish. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fresh berry-pie aromas waft from the glass of this Pinot. The palate shows spicier sassafras, cinnamon and cedar layers atop a core of Bing cherry and raspberry fruit. Great value to be had here." K&L Notes: From a small, hidden-gem winery that has an estate vineyard that sits right in between Joseph Swan's Trenton Vineyard and Kistler's estate on the famed Laguna Ridge sub-region of Russian River. 92 points John Gilman: "Jordan Vineyards only released their first vintage in 1976, so their second year of 1977 shows just how beautifully this winery did right from the outset. I have had the pleasure to drink this wine twice in the last month and it has shown beautifully both times, with its classic Sonoma signature aromatics and flavors allowing for just a whisper of tobacco leaf-like shadings, coupled with truly beautifully pure fruit and great transparency down to its underlying soil tones. The bouquet is deep and complex, offering up a wide open b...

From the brewery: "Velvet Glow is an homage to an old Grace Brother’s Brewing beer brewed right here in Santa Rosa! The Grace Brother’s brewery was around from 1933 to 1966, where they created many iconic beer brands including Velvet Glow and Happy Hops. This Helles style lager is a clean, crisp, and refreshing beer with a bright straw color, aromas and flavors of bread crust and biscuit. There is a very low bitterness with a mild hop aroma." Fantesca is a Spring Mountain District estate with 10 acres of vineyards that were replanted in 1997. Originally a historic 19th century vineyard with ties to Charles Krug, the property's viticulture didn't survive Phylloxera and prohibition and was reclaimed by the surrounding forest for more than 70 years. After the vineyard was reclaimed and the new estate erected, famed winemaker Heidi Barret came on board in 2008 to craft the estate's wines.

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Bottled in December and sourced from sites mostly in the Russian River (there’s a small amount of Sonoma Coast in here), the 2016 Chardonnay One Sixteen is the larger production cuvée of the estate and could be thought of as the flagship Chardonnay. It reveals the fresher, crisper style of all the wines from Kosta Browne today and has lively notes of green citrus, stone fruits, toasted almonds, and white flowers." 93 points Wine Advocate: "A sad note is that the 2003 Pinot Noir Reserve’s vineyard, planted in 1975, was finally uprooted and the land sold for a new housing development. The 2003 offers notes of raspberry fruit intermixed with cherries, apple skin, pomegranate, and smoky oak. This full-bodied, concentrated wine has loads of acidity, but also intense richness, making it one of the most concentrated Reserves the Martinellis have produced. It is no shy wine, topping the scales at 15% alcohol, but it is amazing stuff with explosive aromatics. (RP)" (02/200...

Full-bodied and rich with texture, the palate is ripe with pineapple candy, vanillin, and baking spice. This was a solid wine to start the flight. Wine & Spirits: "A new year can hardly pass without another radiant offering from Lance Winters and Alameda-based St. George Spirits. Bruto Americano is an American aperitivo, bittered largely with gentian root, while California-grown Seville oranges and buckthorn bark provide orange and woodsy notes. The flavor may recall Campari (with a hint of Aperol citrus)—as does the color, a lush vermillion derived from cochineal, as Campari used to be—but the soothing texture and complexity puts it in a category of its own. BA’s gorgeous Italian futurist label sh...
