2020 Domaine la Colombe Coteaux Varois en Provence Rosé
Top Pick!
Domaine de la Colombe is based in the village of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, located at elevations between 900 and 1,300 feet. The terroir includes clay-limestone soils in combination with sandier soils in the valley. The higher elevations combined with full sun exposure allow for full ripeness without sacrificing acidic balance and texture. It's a classic patio wine for aperitifs or lightly grilled seafood dishes.

This rosé from Domaine de la Chapelle Saint Victor AOP Coteaux d'Aix en Provence is made from a Mediterranean blend of Grenache and Cinsault, enhanced with a touch of Syrah (Grenache 50%; Cinsault 30%; Syrah 20%). Winery note: "Light pink in color, with violet shades, this wine possesses a memorable and complex aroma. A lively wine that is smooth and possessing a certain sweetness. Very fruity, this rosé is particularly well suited as an aperitif or with salads and vegetable dishes."

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "With flavors from the wild herbs of the island's mountain countryside, this wine is exotic and perfumed. Its acidity and tight texture add to the delicious flavors, giving the wine a great lift at the end. (RV)" (09/2021) Wine Spectator: "A bright, high-pitched style, with a taut chalky mineral note running through white cherry and white peach flavors. (JM)" (07/2021) K&L Notes: Corsica is one of the great, off-the-radar regions for wine production. The vineyards for Petroni date back to 1885 and are surrounded by the Cors...

A beautiful terroir skillfully worked by Jérômine Paret and Philippe Garnier. Responding to the call of his parents, Jérômine gave up a career as an English teacher to take over the family estate. She then studied business and allied herself with Philippe Garnier, who has one goal in mind: to achieve excellence. She does not regret her choices today and her customers don't either! Thus, the estate evolves each year with new wines and techniques. The organically-farmed grapes for the rosé are evenly split between Carignan and Grenache with a touch each of...

2019 Domaine Petroni Corse Rouge
Top Pick!
91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Wonderful raspberry and ripe strawberry fruits as well as spice, flowers, and a beautiful chalky minerality all emerge from the 2019 Corse, a medium-bodied, fresh, seamless, impeccably balanced red from Corsica. It has plenty of classic Mediterranean spice and garrigue nuances, yet it holds onto a wonderful sense of freshness, focus, and elegance, and is just a joy to drink." (08/2021) K&L Notes: Domaine Petroni is an estate on the eastern side of Corsica near Lake Diane. Lake Diane is a famous lagoon, where the local aquacultur...

Jeb Dunnuck: "Exotic melon, pineapple, and more tropical and floral notes all emerge from the 2020 Blanc, a medium-bodied, juicy, rounded, and nicely textured white that will be incredibly versatile on the dinner table." (08/2021) K&L Notes: A warm weather superstar, this is 100% Vermentino. Domaine Petroni lies on the eastern shore of Corsica near Lake Diane, one of the great sources for oysters and mussels on the island. Founded in 1885 and run by the Ramazotti brothers, the vineyards are planted on sandy and clay soils overlooking the Mediterranean....

Agnés and her father Henri Gaussen cultivate the vineyards of the Château de la Noblesse as their ancestors have done for five generations. The vines are located around the 18th-century castle. Their Bandol blanc is a blend of Clairette, Ugni Blanc and Vermentino from their 14-hectare estate vineyard located in the basin of Le Beausset, where it benefits from maximum sunshine and very little rain.

Wine Spectator: "Light savory and smoky notes give this some energy and intrigue, while peach, persimmon and wet stone notes glide through. Tasty. Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault. (JM, Web-2018)" K&L Notes: This 14-hectare estate has belonged to the Gaussen family for six generations. Located in one of the warmer and drier parts of Bandol, its soils are heavy in clay and limestone, meaning that most of the vineyard labor is done by hand out of necessity. Produced from old vines (and therefore from smaller grapes) the resulting wines are full and flavor...

Château de L'Aumerade was purchased by Henri and Charlotte Fabre in 1932 and became one of 18 Crus Classés classified in 1955 in the “Golden Triangle” of Côtes de Provence. In 1956, Charlotte Fabre was inspired by Emile Gallé’s pâtes de verre vases and named her own design, Marie Christine, after her newborn granddaughter. Following in the footsteps of her grandfather and father, Marie-Christine Fabre-Grimaldi and her husband Vincent have carried on her family’s winemaking tradition and passed it down to the next generation, Caroline, Clément and Delphin...

2021 Peyrassol "La Croix" Méditeranée Rosé
Top Pick!
The name of the estate is the first indication of its long, illustrious past. Located in the heart of Provence, near routes traveled by Crusaders in the early Middle Ages, the Commanderie de Peyrassol was founded by the Knights of Templar who were dedicated to protecting the Crusaders en route to, and in, the Holy Land. The first recorded grape harvest took place in 1256 and winemaking has continued uninterrupted throughout the centuries. When the Templars were brought down in 1311 by the King of France, who was nervous of their power and jealous of thei...

This is no cheap rosé, it's true. But consider, for a minute, that this is no simple quaffer of a pink wine. It hails from Palette, one of the smallest appellations in all of France. It is, in a sense, a sort of Provençal monopole, since Château Palette owns nearly all the acreage in this tiny 23-hectare zone. Their vines are old, too. In some cases, more than 100 years old. The red grapes are the usual suspects for this part of France: Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah with small amounts of Cinsault, Carignane, and other local varieties. But at Simone, the...

The Clos Cibonne draws its name from Jean-Baptiste de Cibon, captain of Louis XVI's Royal navy and first owner of the vineyard. After his death in 1797, the property was sold to the Roux family's ancestors. In the 1930s, André Roux planted the vineyard to the Tibouren grape varietal. Since then, both children and grandchildren have carried on the tradition.

This historic estate, situated in the hills just south of Aix-en-Provence, has been in the hands of the Rougier family for two centuries and holds a virtual monopoly on the appellation of Palette. Château Simone encompasses twenty hectares of vineyards that sit on limestone soils at elevations between 500 and 750 feet above sea level on the slopes of Montaiguet. The special mesoclimate of this appellation is influenced by the encircling pine forests, the mass of Mont Sainte-Victoire, and the Arc River. The vineyards were reconstituted after the invasion ...

Jeb Dunnuck in Wine Advocate: "Easily the most widely recognized estate in Bandol, Domaine Tempier has been run by the Peyraud family since 1936. Today, with the passing of Lucien Peyraud in 1996 and the retirement of sons Francois and Jean-Marie, the estate is run by the tall, energetic and talented Daniel Ravier—who speaks with a refreshing honesty and humility. Looking at the reds, the estate fashions four cuvees, a classic Bandol from a mix of terroirs, and three single vineyards—La Migoua, La Tourtine and Cabassaoul. (06/2016)

Both are actually declassified in the region, since they do not follow the traditional blends of Coteaux d'Aix. 2021 Château Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé
New!
A pleasant little Côtes de Provence Rosé from a property that played host to St. Thomas Aquinas in 1252, was the residence of the Prince of Naples in the 1400s, and appeared in the Register of Noble Houses. Rock fans may like to know that the recording studio "Studio Miraval" created on the site has reverberated with the music of Sting, Sade, and the Cranberries. Oh, and Pink Floyd recorded "The Wall" there in 1979. Miravals' current owners Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt (who remain committed to the estate despite their divorce) partnered with Château de B...
