2019 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco
Top Pick!
96 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Camphor, rose, cedar and ripe red berry aromas come to the forefront on this beautiful Barbaresco. Smooth and elegantly structured, the focused palate features ripe Morello cherry, crushed raspberry, star anise and white pepper alongside taut, refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it well balanced." (09/2022) 94-95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "There is a more pronounced mineral and delicately spiced character to the 2019 Barbaresco, with notes of wet asphalt and kirsch and vibrant purity. It has elegant concentration, with fine coiled ...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Red berry, rose and new leather aromas mingle with whiffs of tobacco on this linear, elegantly structured red. Savory and bursting with finesse, the focused palate doles out juicy red cherry, black raspberry, star anise and white pepper alongside tightly knit, fine-grained tannins. Racy acidity lends balance and tension. Drink 2027-2039. (KO)" (09/2022) Wine Advocate: "The Bel Colle 2019 Barbaresco is a well-balanced wine with tart fruit, wild cherry, violet, earth and hints of tangy licorice. The presentation is simple and ...

Vinous: "The 2020 Dolcetto d'Alba Vignavillej, from vines in both Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga, is a powerhouse. A blast of dark fruit, smoke, licorice, melted road tar and licorice add to an impression of virile intensity. This is far from an easygoing Dolcetto. (AG)" (11/2022)

92 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Fermented in concrete and aged in tonneaux and botti grandi, the 2021 Poderi Luigi Eianudi Barbera has a smoky quality that underscores aromas of ripe dark-skinned fruit, seasoned meats, and truffle. The smoky note carries over to the juicy palate along with black cherry, menthol and star anise. Polished tannins and fresh acidity keep it balanced. " (09/2023)

2019 Luciano Sandrone "Le Vigne" Barolo (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
98 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Rose, menthol, star anise and baking spice are just some of the aromas that appear on the gorgeous Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne 2019. Focused, elegant and savory, the vibrant palate offers juicy red cherry, spiced cranberry, crushed mint and ground clove before a licorice close. A backbone of fine-grained tannins provide support while bright acidity keeps it impeccably balanced and loaded with energy and tension. What a stunner." 90 points Vinous: "The 2021 Dolcetto d'Alba Coste & Fossati is laced with dark cherry, plum, spice, leather and tobacco. Long ferments, with submerged cap and aging in cask yields a Dolcetto of uncommon complexity and nuance. The Coste & Fossati is usually on the richer side, but the 2021 is decidedly restrained. (AG) " (11/2022)

2022 Nervi-Conterno "Il Rosato" Vino Rosato
Top Pick!
92 points Vinous: "Airy and fresh yet complex as well, the 2022 Il Rosato impresses with its lifting notes of rose, crushed stone, peach skins and lemon oil. Refined yet juicy and fruit-forward, this casts lime-tinged apple and green melon easily across the palate, energized by vibrant acidity. The 2022 buzzes with residual tension. The medium-length finish ends with a crunchy sensation as sour cherry nuances fade. The magic of Nebbiolo Rosato. (EG)" (05/2023)

2020 SIlvia Rivella Langhe Nebbiolo
Top Pick!
Guido Rivella's Nebbiolo d'Alba is grown partly in Montestefano and partly in Patricone (near Cole) and it is made from 90% Nebbiolo and 10% Barbera. The grapes are separately fermented in stainless steel for 14-18 days and then aged in wood for 6-12 months. The blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera is something that Guido did regularly at Gaja, using the Barbera to add lift and drive to the Nebbiolo. Perfect for pasta and roast meats.
Price: $29.99

92 points Decanter: "Plum and cherry aromas are ripe and rich with intense fruitiness. Sleek attack, quite concentrated and assertive, but not overbearing with black fruit flavours. Ripe plum and dark cherry integrate with persistent tannin. An easy drinking example, perfect for picnics or burgers in the summer. " (06/2023)
Price: $24.99

91 points Vinous: "The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is a serious wine that will give readers a very good idea of what is in store with this vintage. Just bottled, the 2021 shows great depth and tons of character. Firm tannins wrap around a core of dark red Nebbiolo, with embryonic hints of spice and flowers that develop with a bit of air. As always, the Produttori's Langhe Nebbiolo is made 100% from Barbaresco-designated vineyards. The 2021 spent 20 days on the skins, unheard of for a wine at this level. It is, quite frankly, better than a few wines from more pr...

96 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Barolo Gramolere (with 7,000 bottles made) shows a slightly sweeter and riper fruit profile. This wine comes from the village of Monforte d'Alba, which is known for more structured and powerful wines compared to Verduno (where this winery is based), which offers lighter, more floral wines instead. Gramolere shows dark fruit, plum and spice, but it also has a pretty mineral note of rust or iron. However, within this portfolio, this wine may well deliver the longest drinking window. 96 points Vinous: "The 2019 Barolo Ravera is redolent of red fruit, mint, chalk, white pepper and orange peel. A Barolo of tension and energy, the 2019 is intensely bright and saline to the core. I would not dream of touching a bottle anytime soon. This is an especially taut style, even for Vajra. (AG)" (11/2022) 96 points Wine Spectator: "There’s plenty of latent fruit in this this graceful and complex red, in the form of cherry, raspberry and plum, along with notes of flowers, tar, mineral and underbrush. Rich, balanced and long, this has well-integr...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Jeweled in appearance, the 2019 Barolo Bricco Delle Viole may be the best wine I have tried yet from Vajra. Its gorgeous and alluring perfume of fresh roses is followed by a Burgundian, elegant red with incredible length and no harsh edges, fine and present tannins, and beautiful, graceful concentration. It is drinking well now, and I will be trying to get my hands on as much of this as possible. Drink 2025-2045. 97+" (05/2023) 97 points Vinous: "The 2019 Barolo Bricco delle Viole offers a beguiling combination of depth and ener...

94 points Wine Spectator: "A slightly austere red, with a core of pure cherry buried within a dense texture and a tannic structure. Though tightly wound, this shows concentrated fruit, along with iron, tobacco, tar and eucalyptus flavors. Best from 2027 through 2049. (BS)" (04/2023) 91 points Vinous: "(91+) The 2019 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is a potent, austere wine. Clean mineral notes and bright acids give the Terlo quite a bit of drive. 2020 Ca' del Baio "Autinbej" Barbaresco

94 points James Suckling: "Attractive aromas of citrus peel and red cherries with hints of lavender, crushed walnuts and dry earth. Medium-bodied. Very fine and polished with chalky textured tannins and juicy red berries in the middle. Fresh and balanced with a textural finish." (06/2023) 92 points Vinous: "The 2020 Barbaresco Autinbej is a gorgeous entry-level offering from Ca' del Baio. Bright, translucent and full of energy, the 2020 impresses with its finesse and nuance. In Piedmont's lesser known northwest corner, directly at the base of the Italian Alps, the Sperino estate is managed by Luca di Marchi and his father, Paolo (of Isole e Olena in Chianti). This is a dramatic vineyard landscape in an extreme sense, with violent weather patterns as a result of the precipitous slopes that buttress the region. The Uvaggio is based heavily on Nebbiolo with a small percentage each of Vespolina and Croatina. The sandy soils of the estate give the wines an elegant mineral inflection that sets this small region apart from the othe...

95 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Fragrant and refined, Fratelli Alessandria’s 2019 Barolo del Comune di Verduno opens with enticing scents recalling dog rose, perfumed forest berry, cedar and eucalyptus. Lithe and elegantly structured, the savory palate reveals juicy red cherry, spiced cranberry and star anise accompanied by taut, fine-grained tannins. It’s well balanced, with fresh acidity." (09/2023) 95 points Wine Advocate: "These village-specific wines are growing in popularity, and among the various expressions on the market today, this wine from Verduno...

Guido Rivella had a multi-decade career as the winemaker for Angelo Gaja. Now retired, he and his daughter have a tiny estate in Barbaresco. This Barbera comes from a vineyard next to the Barbaresco vineyard "Cole." It is an eastern-facing, 1.4-acre piece. The wine is fermented in stainless steel for 12-14 days and then aged in used barrique for six months. Barbera has naturally high acid, but this wine shows exceptional balance and is supple and layered, with complex earthy aromatics.

94 points Wine Spectator: "This classy, international-style Piedmont red seduces with gorgeous violet, floral, toasted oak and black currant aromas and flavors. An earthy, Syrah-like note adds complexity. Full-bodied and thick, it remains racy from a good level of acidity and has a lovely, fresh, clean finish. Made from Syrah. " (11/1999)

96 points Wine Advocate: "This vineyard delivers slightly more concentrated fruit and a medium-dark appearance from loamy calcareous soils. The 2019 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno delivers more oomph and power with ripe cherry, blackcurrant, dark spice and earthy aromas. Fratelli Alessandria makes some of the most harmonious wines in Verduno, and that quality comes through beautifully in this wine, despite the slightly more robust fruit weight delivered by San Lorenzo di Verduno. Only 5,000 bottles were made. (ML)" (08/2023) 93-95 points Vinous: "The 20...

100 points Kerin O'Keefe: "The compelling 2019 Barolo Bric dël Fiasc from Paolo Scavino is drop-dead gorgeous. Opening with heady scents of Alpine herb, iris, dark spice and perfumed berry, it showcases the magnificent site, the fantastic vintage and the generational experience of the Scavino family. Stunningly delicious and radiant, it delivers ripe red cherry, raspberry compote, blood orange and licorice set against firm, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of tobacco and almond linger on the finish." (04/2023) 98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Aromatic, this red reveals cherry, raspberry, white pepper and mineral aromas and flavors. Starts out vibrant and solidifies as firm tannins emerge on the long finish. Shows fine resonance and clarity. (BS)" (04/2023) K&L Notes: Antonio Galloni writes on Nervi-Conterno in Vinous: "I fully expected that Roberto Conterno would elevate quality at Nervi upon his acquisition of the winery in 2018. What I did not expect was that the change would happen so fast and that the makeover would be so extreme. A historic estate, Nervi had ...

96 points Wine Advocate: "One of my personal favorites, the 2018 Barolo Le Vigne is savory in character and packed with dark fruit. Ripe cherry and redcurrant cedes to spice, licorice and fragrant rose. The oak is integrated, but there are added accents of spice and dark tar. Le Vigne is a blend of fruit from Baudana in Serralunga d'Alba, Villero in Castiglione Falletto, Vignane in Barolo and Merli in Novello. (06/2023) 96 points Vinous: "The 2020 Barbaresco Vigneto Valeirano is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, graphite, sage, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and incense infuse the 2020 with tremendous complexity. Powerful but not overdone, the 2020 should evolve well for many years to come. Crushed flowers, sweet, red-toned fruit, mint, blood orange and bright saline notes race across the palate. (AG)" (10/2023) 95 points James Suckling: "Very floral with both fresh and dried flowers on the nose as well as cherries and hibiscus with some sliced strawberries. 93 points Wine Spectator: "Bright and well-delineated, exuding cherry, strawberry, rose and earth flavors. Turns firm and tightly wound from midpalate through the finish, showing the austerity of the vintage. There is plenty here, but this just needs time. Best from 2026 through 2045. (BS)" (04/2023) 92 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dried flowers with spices such as cloves and dried lavender. Strawberry and orange peel. Medium-bodied with firm and racy tannins and a fresh and firm finish. A little tight and lean. Should soften and open with time. B...

94 points Wine Advocate: "This is certainly one of the most popular and versatile wines made in Italy, and deservedly so. The well-priced G.D. Vajra 2019 Barolo Albe shows some ripe fruit and softness with cherry, dried raspberry and crushed rose. This vintage is similar in character to the 2016 release in that both vintages offer a linear style with good structure at the back. The mouthfeel is polished and long, affording accessibility and complexity too. (ML)" (08/2023) 93 points James Suckling: "A firm and polished red with berries and spices, like ...

97 points Vinous: "The 2019 Barolo Lazzarito continues a trend seen in recent years in which the focus has been more about finesse than raw power. Intense red fruit, iron, dried herbs, chalk, dried rose petal and white pepper all run through this deep, virile Barolo. The power and intensity of Serralunga really come alive on the heady, explosive finish. Bright saline notes linger on the deep, resonant finish. A Barolo of raw, unbridled power, the Lazzarito demands patience. (AG)" (11/2022)

90 points Decanter: "Carema is a fairly small appellation in Turin, producing Nebbiolo at altitude. The valley basin suffered from drought in 2017, however the vineyards are located on terraces at around 750 metres above sea level and their proximity to the mountains guarantee a good amount of rainfall almost every year. This Riserva is delicious on the nose, full of violet and iris, intense red currants and a slightly stony minerality in depth. The tannins are slightly chalk and the acid firm; a wine more on the bones than on the meat, yet balanced and ...

It is medium-bodied, with notes of meaty cherry fruit, iron-rich earth, and orange peel, as well as a fresh and lifted acidity. (AF)" (05/2023)

" (07/2022) 97 points Wine Advocate: "The last time we saw this iconic wine was in 2013 (a vintage that earned a perfect score). Following up on that success, the Elio Grasso 2015 Barolo Riserva Rüncot is a generous, open-knit Nebbiolo that has much of the warmth and sunshine locked deep within its core. The wine is smooth and soft in texture, yet it feels stitched up and firm at the back thanks to the support it gets from those balanced tannins. This wine should hold 20 years or more. There is wild cherry and Japanese plum, but the Monvigliero cru also delivers crushed rose, earthy iris root, candied orange peel with clove and dustings of black pepper. This wine delivers a gorgeous mineral lift, with notes of wet stone, fresh rose petals, blood orange, and apricot, and it has an outstanding arch through an incredibly long finish, with incense, Asian spice, grenadine, and a savory, mouthwatering finish.
