For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. This is a superb Cabernet-very elegant and user friendly already. This all estate grown, 100% Pinot Noir champagne comes from Les Riceys, one of the southernmost villages in Champagne. It is the same wine as the reserve, but with an extra year of ageing and without any sugar added. It was the biggest discovery of my March trip to the Aube, but unfortunately only 4000 bottles were produced. This wine has great baguette toast, subtle pinot noir fruit and a great mineral finish that shows off how close this estate is to Chablis. Domaine Renaud is a small operation in the town of Puissé, where they make Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran wines from twelve hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, stainless steel for others. The wines have long been customer favorites at K&L with their clean and fresh style, and their affordable price tags. Located in northwestern Pomerol, just 35 kilometers east of Bordeaux, the 47.5 vineyard hectares of Château de Sales make up the largest estate in the Pomerol appellation and have been owned by the same family for more than 500 years.
