2018 Sarno 1860 "Erre" Fiano di Avellino
Top Pick!
93 points Vinous: "White flowers and chamomile give way to freshly sliced apple, crushed almond and stone as the 2018 Fiano di Avellino Riserva Erre slowly awakens. This coats the entire palate in silken richness, yet it maintains perfect poise, as mineral-tinged stone fruits give way to brown spice under an air of pretty inner florals. There’s an almost-crunchy feel to the finale, yet also a balanced inner sweetness combined with residual acids that creates a sense of total harmony, as hints of lime and melon slowly taper off. The Erre is a single-viney...

94 points Vinous: "A distinct richness and savoriness makes the 2022 Biancolella Tenuta Frassitelli impossible to ignore, wafting up with a bouquet of dried flowers, incense, gingery spice and young peach. It’s round and supple with crisp orchard fruits and wild notes of crystalized ginger, all balanced by a pretty inner sweetness. The 2022 leaves the palate reeling with tension, blending cheek-puckering lemon zest with a bump of residual acidity and a salty note that keeps the mouth watering for more. It is easy to visualize the steep mountainside viney...

92 points Vinous: "The 2022 Biancolella opens slowly, first showing crushed stone and lime zest nuances. Coaxing brings about green apple and subtle ginger aromas. It’s deeply textural, almost creamy in feel, and lifted in weight. A core of stimulating acidity and minerals add balance as sweet inner florals enhance ripe orchard fruits. The 2022 finishes remarkably fresh, airy and impactful, leaving a subtle sour tinge and salty nuances that last up to a minute. - By Eric Guido on April 2023" (04/2023)

92 points Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. (AG) 92+ " (08/2010) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A beautiful wine: sweet cherry and berry fruit nuances are woven within threads of vani...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Suave and harmonious, with a firm frame of fine-grained tannins married to ripe black and red currant fruit, iron and ash, anise, black tea leaf and citrus peel notes. This expands on the palate and through the long, mouthwatering finish. (AN, Web-2023)" 92 points Vinous: "Bright dark red-ruby. Aromas of raspberry, plum, flint, smoky spices, licorice and minerals. Supple, lush and deep, displaying restrained sweetness and lively but concentrated red berry, plum and mineral flavors. This classy Aglianico wine finishes with love...

94 points James Suckling: "The black-pepper and walnut aromas are intense on the nose. Ripe fruit, too. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold." (09/2018) 93 points Wine Spectator: "A dense, brooding red, offering a rich, aromatic vein of tarry mineral, with accents of licorice and medicinal herb to the flavors of baked black cherry and woodsy spice. Well-meshed and full-bodied, with a long, grippy finish. (AN)" (06/2019) 92 points Vinous: "Deep red-ruby. Cedar, graphite, black and blue fruits on the nose and in th...

Note from the producer: "Lapilli wines come from the Avellino Province of Campagnia of Southern Italy. The volcanic layers of soil help to create stunning mineral-driven and memorable wines. The indigenous varietals here have had thousands of years of adaption, finding balance in volcanic soils, high altitudes and cooling Mediterranean breezes."

Marisa Cuomo is fortunate in that she calls one of the most beautiful places in the world home, and that is the Amalfi coast. And in this painfully picturesque spot, she fashions equally beautiful wines that have a real affinity for the local cuisine, especially fish. This blend of 60% Falanghina, 40% Biancolella gives off floral hints of honeysuckle and fresh cut daisy. Generally light in body, but not lacking structure, its freshness and excellent acidity make it a shoe in for fish and crustaceans.

93 points Vinous: "The 2019 Fiano di Avellino is remarkably pretty and delicate in the glass, wafting up with dusty dried flowers, crushed apples and nuances of mint. It’s weightier than anticipated, with silken textures lifted by brisk acids, as lime-tinged stone fruits and gingery brown spices settle upon the senses. This leaves an unbelievable amount of citrusy concentration and salty minerals to linger through the tension-filled finale, yet freshness is expertly maintained. The 2019 is still in its infant stage of life, requiring cellaring to unlock ...

92 points James Suckling: "Dark and broody, unfiltered aglianico here with black plums and some smoky, expresso and dark-chocolate nuances that enrich the nose and palate. Full-bodied with firm, fruit-coated tannins and good drive to the end. Drinkable now, but give it another year to even out even more. Best after 2022. " (10/2021) 92 points Vinous: "The 2018 ION is complex and deeply aromatic, mixing mentholated herbs with musky blackberries, exotic spices and hints of cigar ash. It washes easily across the palate, guided by juicy acidity as tart red...

97 points Decanter: "Powerfully aromatic, displaying myriad peach, kumquat, lemon and jasmine notes, with a vibrant, bracing acidity and a whisper of stirring minerality. Creamy, weighty and expressive with a long zesty finish. A real mouthful of flavour! 40% Ripolo, 30% Ginestra, 30% Fenile" (01/2023) 91 points James Suckling: "The benchmark producer of the Costa d’Amalfi. A hint of tropical and stone fruits, but largely a textural pinion of saline pungency, savvy barrique work and dutiful freshness, towing fine length. A challenging year for much of...

91 points Vinous: "Remarkably pretty from the first tilt of the glass, the 2022 Fiano di Avellino Exultet lifts up with a pretty honeyed floral quality, like freshly bloomed spring flowers, followed by suggestions of chamomile, mint and crushed yellow apple. This envelops the palate with silky textural fruits, showing the warmth of the vintage yet with a core of candied lime and zesty acidity to balance, as ripe green melon comes together with saline minerals to create a display of contrasts. The 2022 finishes remarkably fresh and with a subtle tension, ...

From the winery: "Brilliant ruby red, the nose is characterized by floral, fruity and spicy notes, with hints of violet, raspberry and cinnamon. The taste is soft, warm, with fine tannins and a long finish."

91 points Wine Advocate: "Made with certified organic fruit, the Fattoria la Rivolta 2018 Aglianico del Taburno is true to the variety with dark fruit, dried plum, scorched earth, licorice and grilled herb. The wine sees a light oak aging regime with 12 months in tonneaux, and this is why the primary fruit is front and center. Production is 18,000 bottles. Fattoria la Rivolta is a leading estate in Benevento and one of my all-time favorite estates in Campania. Farming is organic, and the vines enjoy south or southeast exposures on calcareous clay soils ...

Il Gusto di Amalfi makes fine liqueurs from local products in the Amalfi Coast town of Praiano. This area is famous for growing citrus, and proprietors Valentino Esposito and Mario Anastasio take organically-grown local lemons and hand peel them with potato peelers, careful not to remove the pith of the fruit, which can contribute a bitterness typically found in larger commercial limoncellos. These skins are then macerated in grain alcohol to extract the pure lemon oils which is the hallmark of this high quality, boutique limoncello production.
