2017 Trimbach "Sélection de Vieilles Vignes" Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!
96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Initial smoky notes of reduction make way for a pervasive, subtle but luminous lemon freshness on the nose of this wine. The palate shows exquisite concentration in lemon freshness. It's bone dry, vivid and fresh. *#2 Wine of 2020 Enthusiast 100, Editors' Choice* (AK)" (05/2020) 95 points James Suckling: "Solid white with density and searing dryness and minerality that is very impressive with sliced apples, lemons and white peaches. Super energy." (07/2019) 93 points John Gilman: "The 2017 'Selection de Vieilles Vignes' fr...

Jancis Robinson: "A pretty, pale pink. Lacy, persistent bubbles. Clean, fresh and absolutely packed with ripe summer strawberries. Not remotely complex but there is so much delicious fruit in there that who cares?! (TC) " (03/2017) Wine Enthusiast: "Notes of crushed dandelion leaves and green apple on the nose of this wine have the slightest edge of yeast. The palate is lively and frothy, edging close to creaminess, while the finish is dry and lasting. (AK)" (12/2019) K&L Notes: Here at K&L we love dry rosé. We especially love rosé from France, and ...

Wine & Spirits: "This wine’s candied-apple flavors meet some malic acidity, making it fleshy and refreshing in a rustic way." (08/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "Notes of wet earth and apple combine on the nose of this wine. Frothy fizz enhances these notions on the palate where they are joined by lemony freshness. The finish is dry, lively and fresh. (AK)" (12/2019) K&L Notes: The Sparr winery has more than a little experience making wine in Alsace, having been founded by Jean Sparr back in the ’80s—the 1680s that is. Nine successive generations have labore...

93 points James Suckling: " Love the smoky, licorice character to the dried-pineapple and cooked-apple flavors. Complex and delicious. Medium to full body. Creamy and gorgeous. Drink now." (07/2019) 93 points Vinous: "Bright straw. Compelling aromas of dried fruits, fresh citrus, sweet spices and honey speak of at least partly air-dried grapes. Then sweet and chewy, but with great suaveness and sappy verve to the delicate orchard and citrus flavors. Currently a little locked up in the middle, but much deeper, richer and more complex than the 2015 Gewür...

The terroir-centric producer Albert Boxler devotes much time, love, and care into producing each vintage of their Crémant d'Alsace. This sparkling wine is made in the labor-intensive traditional method from a blend of Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Pinot Noir. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the juice is racked by gravity into tank. Bottles are hand-rotated in the cellar and spend 24-30 months aging on the lees. It is very dry in style and consistently one of Alsace's best Crémants.

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Yeasty mellowness is all that the shy nose gives away. The dark-pink hue of this wine promises body and fruit, which duly appear on the creamy palate. Mellow strawberry and apple pair with gentle freshness. A chalky texture supports the frothy foam while freshness highlights the dry roundness of the finish. (AK)" (09/2020) K&L Notes: The Sparr winery has more than a little experience making wine in Alsace, having been founded by Jean Sparr back in the ’80s—the 1680s. Nine successive generations have labored to maintain and e...

James Suckling: "A very charming, medium-bodied dry Muscat with a light touch and moderate acidity, this is easy to enjoy. Enough acidity, in spite of the very warm vintage, but pleasing rather than stunning. From organically grown grapes. " (11/2020)
Price: $14.99

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Slight reduction still shows on the nose of this wine, but promises freshness. The palate comes in with uncommon brightness and slenderness for 2018 and seems to make a show of its uncompromising tartness, but there is concentration galore. The finish is dry and all about zesty citrus. (AK)" (05/2020) 91 points Wine Spectator: "A sleek, mouthwatering white, marrying a pronounced petrol-laced overtone with a creamy range of apricot, persimmon and yellow apple fruit and preserved lemon, pine and anise aromatics. Racy finish. (...

91 points James Suckling: "Attractively fused florals and white peaches with lychees and apricots. The palate has a very fleshy feel with rich and juicy texture and smooth peaches and apples. Lightly sweet, full-ish finish. " (07/2019) 91 points Vinous: "Pale yellow-gold. Fresh, lively aromas and flavors of smoky duck sausage, cinnamon, rose petal and grapefruit. Very long, rich and dense Gewürz that closes pleasantly lifted and spicy. I like how light on its feet this is, despite its richness. Improves greatly with a little aeration, so make sure you ...

90 points Vinous: "Luminous straw-gold. Varietally accurate aromas and flavors of smoke, grilled pork, white pepper and tropical fruit, but this has a lemony zing that gives a graceful mouthfeel despite a hint of chewy tannins at the back. The finish is long and ripe. Trimbach does not make this every year but only when they are able to buy good-quality grapes (the wine is made with roughly 95% purchased grapes). The most recent previous Gewürz Réserve was the 2011. About 14,000 bottles made. (ID)" (04/2018)

92 points James Suckling: " A delightful Alsace dry riesling with discreet fruit-salad character and a hint of red-cherry alongside the apple, pear and citrus aromas. However, it’s not only the unusually subtle aromas for this category that make it stand out; the ripeness of the acidity is also impressive. Just a hint of tannin neatly supports the finish. Very food-friendly. Drink now." (11/2020) 91 points Decanter: "Alsace entrances not just because of fruit purity and aromatic finesse, but because it does these things with an inner wealth, a structur...

2011 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!
94 points John Gilman: "The Trimbach family’s 2011 vintage of Cuvée Frédéric Émile is just starting to blossom in magnum, and I have to expect that it is now in its plateau of peak drinkability in regular sized formats. The bouquet of the 2011 magnum is beautiful, offering up a precise and vibrant constellation of apple, pink grapefruit, a beautiful base of stony minerality, a lovely touch of petrol, white flowers, beeswax and a topnote of lemon zest. On the palate the wine is bright, fullbodied, focused and has a rock solid core of ripe fruit, with supe...

2016 Trimbach "Cuvée du Troiscentquatrevingtdixième (390th Anniversary)" Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Notes of petrol and pear are focused and intense on the nose. The palate is bright and lemony, with a silky smoothness. A long, puckery finish leaves a tingly sensation, as well as delicious notes of dill, fennel frond and eucalyptus. This wine is a bit of a slow burner and could easily keep aging, but there’s plenty here to enjoy and discover now. (LS)" (03/2022) 94 points Vinous: "Vivid straw-green. Rich aromas of soft citrus fruits, honey and minerals. Dense, juicy and tactile on the palate, featuring expressive flavors o...

96 points James Suckling: "Ripe and concentrated with a level of restraint that the 2018 dry Rieslings from Alsace rarely have. I love the delicate mirabelle and subtle exotic-fruit notes and, with aeration, the wine gains considerable spicy complexity. However, its greatest strength comes through at the long, expansive mineral finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification." (11/2020) Jancis Robinson: "Heady, lily-perfumed, rich Riesling nose with some development. There's a hint of mint in this satin-textured wine that is absolut...

Domaine Albert Boxler was founded in the 16th century and today is lead by Jean Boxler. Using many of the same techniques that his ancestors used, the focus continues to be on traditionally made wines from the region's noble grapes. Sourcing from a number of different terroirs, resulting in dozens of different bottlings each vintage, the Gewürztraminer comes from a 14-hectare plot of granite, limestone, and alluvial planted to ten- to sixty-year-old vines. All grapes are hand harvested and fermented with natural yeasts in stainless steel.

98 points James Suckling: "A giant of minerality with enormous structure, this also delights you with the stunningly ripe apricot and pineapple fruit that’s wrapped around its dense core. This will surely only get better for many years to come, as it slowly reveals its deep riches. From biodynamically grown grapes." (06/2021) 94 points Decanter: "With exciting aromas of spices, white fruits, lemon, lime and pomelo, the Brand Riesling 2019 is perfectly balanced. Its pure spring flower notes define the bouquet, and it has a vibrant texture that carries p...

95 points James Suckling: "There’s a lot of discussion about “noble austerity“ in wine, but those wines are often just a bit hard. This has a certain mineral austerity, but it is welded to the ripest of citrus aromas and breathtaking vibrancy. Although this already makes an impressive statement, the core is so tightly packed that it will show even better after some time to unwind. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2022." (06/2021) 94 points Decanter: "Compared to other Zind-Humbrecht Rieslings, Heimbourg seems more spicy....

91 points James Suckling: "Here’s a classic, spicy Alsace gewurztraminer that’s ripe and generous (14% alcohol), but with more discreet tannins and a drier finish than most examples of this category. That makes it so much easier to drink! Drink now." (11/2020) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "A subtle veil of Damask rose encloses peachiness on the nose of this wine. Although the palate reveals power and warmth, it cloaks it in subtle rose notes. The finish is just about dry. It's lovely and subtle. (AK)" (10/2020)
Price: $19.99

97 points James Suckling: "This is a massively concentrated and enormously structured wine with so much smoke and spice, but there’s also so much rose aroma that it comes off as charming rather than imposing. And the giant freshness at the finish pulls you back for more of this astonishing gewurz. Beautifully integrated touch of sweetness. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold." (06/2021) 94 points Decanter: "A tiny plot of 0.5 hectares produces only 1,500 bottles each year. As Olivier Humbrecht says, Rangen imposes its strength on the grape ...

98 points James Suckling: "So spicy and smoky with a hint of mushroom, this is an enormously deep and concentrated dry Pinot Gris that’s just beginning to open up. With some aeration, ripe melon character is added to the expansive picture. Tons of spice at the imposing, dry finish and just a hint of raisin. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2023." (06/2021) 91 points Decanter: "The 2019 Clos Saint Urbain Rangen de Thann Pinot Gris is slightly reduced right now. But with air, the bouquet shows white fruits aromas, with spi...

96 points James Suckling: "So much mineral and sliced apple character with hints of orange and apple peel. Turns to steely character. Full-bodied, racy and bright. So lively. Great finish. Drink or hold on release. " (09/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile is highly complex on the clear, intense and smoky, lemony nose. Clear, fresh, straight and very mineral on the nose, this is a pure but complex, intense, stony Riesling that is pretty austere at the moment. Provided with racy acidity, but concentrate...

96 points Decanter: "This tiny parcel (1.2ha), planted in 1973, always produces vibrant and energetic wines. The 2019 offers herbs, lemon, peach and mineral aromas, intertwined with some racy and subtle gunflint aromas. The palate is tense, very long, with a fine-grained texture and much freshness. Despite its well-managed acidity, this wine has depth, is fleshy, and has remarkable purity. Drinking Window 2030 - 2050. (JC)" (09/2021) 96 points James Suckling: "With its cornucopia of yellow fruit, floral notes and wet-stone character, this is at once fl...

97 points James Suckling: "It sounds corny, but this really tastes of an abundance of sunshine, with super-ripe pineapple character. That’s beautifully supported by the mineral acidity, which keeps this as straight as a laser beam. Very polished finish that’s incredibly bright. First vintage of this wine! From biodynamically grown grapes." (06/2021) 93 points Decanter: "This is the first vintage from this new 'terroir' in Zind-Humbrecht’s galaxy, bought in 2010 and replanted in 2013. The wine possesses a sumptuous bouquet with white fruit, lemon, and s...

96 points Decanter: "With pomelos, lemon, herbs, spring flowers and slightly flinty aromas, the Clos Windsbuhl Riesling 2019 offers perfect maturity of the grapes. On the palate, the wine is a little austere with a significant limestone presence and perfectly managed acidity. Its purity and depth are simply awesome. The texture is pure and delicate, with a racy yet airy and saline finish. Don’t even think about touching bottles for at least 7-8 years; it’s going to keep for 30 years or more. Superb! (JC)" (09/2021) 96 points James Suckling: "It’s hard ...

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Juicy, fresh white peach on the nose of this wine is framed by lemon. Zesty headiness presses pleasure buttons in the brain with ethereal lift. The palate echoes that zesty, juicy lemon theme, teetering between tart freshness and aromatic abundance. Bone dry, incisive and concentrated, the wine is gorgeous. Wait for it to unfold. Drink 2025–2045. *Cellar Selection* (AI)" (05/2020) 96 points Vinous: "Vivid straw-green with gold highlights. Highly aromatic on the nose, revealing hints of pear, lime, white pepper, candied ginge...

95 points James Suckling: "Slightly funky from wild ferment, but with aeration, great flintiness develops, leading you into the ripe yet sleek palate that’s so finely etched. A great Alsace dry riesling with a long, steely and mineral finish. Must be the best vintage of this wine ever! From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold." (11/2020)
Price: $54.99

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Stony petrol scents reveal a soft, enticing trace of apricot. This wine is taut with lemon-zest tension, but has a soft plumpness to the mouthfeel, hinting at ripe, juicy stone fruits. The finish is long and zesty. *Editors' Choice* (LS)" (12/2021) Wine Spectator: "A soft and creamy white, with orange peel acidity enlivening flavors of guava, baked pineapple and aromatic hints of honeysuckle and curry spice. (AN, Web-2021)" K&L Notes: This 2018 vintage consists of hand-harvested Riesling that grows on granite soils above th...

93 points James Suckling: "This impressive dry riesling is now coming into its own, and with new aromas (most importantly red apple, lime, grapefruit and dried herb) emerging with each swirl of the glass. On the palate it marries boldness and ample structure and some real textural complexity. Crisp, mineral finish with very well integrated acidity. Drink or hold." (11/2020) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A subtle and aromatic lift of dried chamomile flower registers first on the nose of this wine. The dry, svelte palate comes in with smooth, almost oily g...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of candlewax and lychee arise from the glass. On the palate, they're met with luscious sweetness and racy (but not quite searing) acidity, as well as some cooked apple and nutmeg notes. Though a hair more acid would have been a welcome refreshment, this wine's weighty, velvety texture and long finish are lovely.(LS)" (12/2021)
Price: $54.99

91 points James Suckling: "Lots of sliced-pear, rose-hip and exotic-fruit aromas give this ripe and generous dry pinot gris a lot of appeal. But it’s the striking cleanness and liveliness at the finish for the super ripe vintage that makes it stand out. Drink now." (11/2020) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "In this wine, notes of ripe yellow pear on the nose promise juiciness and freshness. Delivering on both counts, the palate presents an easy and appetizing core of green and yellow pear. The rounded body preserves freshness that brightens the dry finish. ...
