One of the more interesting native varietals of grapes that grow in Italy is Timorasso. Unique, complex, capable of aging, and reflective of its terrior, it's definitely something to experience. Walter Massa is the winemaker/farmer who brought the grape back to life in the early 1980s. He remains the leading producer and go-to grower for Timorasso. Timorasso has substance and structure and pairs beautifully with richer dishes like salmon and pork loin.

Moscato grapes, being particularly aromatic, require a special winemaking technique in order to preserve the fruit's potent fragrance and to create a wine that is light on its feet and a fine accompaniment to fruit and nut-based desserts. Monica Larner of Wine Advocate writes: "Giulio Grasso’s family entered the wine business “late,” as he tells it, because his male ancestors were soldiers in the various World Wars. Only after the turmoil in Europe settled, in the mid 1950s, did the family start to bottle wine. The estate’s most precious vineyard, the three hectares they own in the Asili cru, was a wedding dowry from Giulio’s grandmother (from Barbaresco) to his grandfather (from Treiso). Today, the family owns 25 hectares including the Valgrande and Marcarini crus in Treiso and the Asili...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1939 Enrico Serafino Erbaluce Passito. Enrico Serafino in Canale d’Alba, founded in 1878, is the oldest winery in the region. The winery was established by Enrico Serafino, who was not involved in wine growing but belonged to a rich family from Romano Canavese. He began the production of Barolo, Barbaresco, and Metodo Classico. The winery gained a significant advantage when the Asti-Canale link opened in 1882, providing access to the Turin-Genoa railway line. This facilitated the transport of wines. By 1897, Enrico Serafino was exporting its wines abroad, starting from Europe and heading to the Americas.
