A new addition to the K&L inventory and to the Jura AOC as a whole, Patrick Ligeron's Domaine des Carlines is quickly making an impression not only on Jura geeks, but also on fans of terroir in general. The domaine vineyard holdings lie partly within the Château-Chalone sub-AOC, each one delivering its own particular expression of the Chardonnay and/or Savagnin grapes. The La Vouivre is a vineyard blend of the domaine's four named parcels - En Beaumont, Le Calvaire, En Lya, and Trémoulette. The composition is 70% Chardonnay and 30% Savagnin. All the wine...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Produced by the Dragon family, the wine is brightly textured with a bite of pepper as well as plenty of acidity. A dry wine, it needs a few months. *Best Buy* (RV)" (07/2023) K&L Notes: Domaine Jacourette lies in the shadow of the Montagne-Ste-Victoire just east of Aix-en-Provence. Vigneron Helene Dragon took over winemaking duties more than two decades ago, and masterfully crafts one of our freshest and most sought after rosés year-after-year. The vines are planted at 300 meters of elevation atop decomposing limestone and ...
The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things: oysters and this wine of origin, Picpoul. Picpoul itself is the grape and means "lip stinger," which has become a running joke in our Hollywood store. Whenever we taste a new Picpoul, we ask each other, "does this pic your poul?"

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This medium-bodied dazzler is packing some brawny tannins to back rich flavors of red raspberries, bittersweet dark chocolate. Equally juicy aromas match blackcap raspberry jam with bursts of coriander and talc. Very difficult to beat for twenty dollars. *Best Buy* (MA)" K&L Notes: An incredible value in quality Willamette Valley Pinot Noir made by the folks at Elk Grove.
The Carte d'Or from Arnould makes up less than 2% of their small production, and they don't produce it every year. Patrick Arnould trades grapes with Delphine Cazals for this wine, which is 50% Mesnil Grand Cru from her estate, and 50% old vine Pinot Noir from the Arnould estate in Verzenay. Our allocation is tiny, and this Champagne is capable of very long ageing.

This all-estate Blanc de Blancs comes from the western edge of Champagne in Crouttes-sur-Marne. Here the soil mixture of limestone, clay, and chalk gives rich wines with plenty of weight. This wine is very full bodied, even grassouillette, making it perfect for an end of winter aperitif. It will also go very well with all manner of savory pastries and pâté. The wine itself is loaded with buttery brioche and comes across decadently loaded with toast. The best thing about the wine is how focused and fresh it is on the finish — this is dry and long wine wit...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I obviously underrated the 2016 Château Haut-Bailly on release, and it easily tops out my scale. A hypothetical blend of the 2009 and 2010, it has the opulence and sexiness of a ripe, sunny vintage (à la 2009) paired with incredible purity, concentration, structure, and elegance (à la 2010). Incredible aromatics of cassis, liquid violets, cedar pencil, flowers, and minerals give way to a full-bodied, multi-dimensional, layered Haut-Bailly offering ultra-fine tannins, flawless overall balance, nothing out of place, and the class t...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Beautiful notes of pure crème de cassis and darker currants, scorched earth, graphite, smoke tobacco, and toasty oak give way to a full-bodied, flawlessly balanced Cabernet with lots of underlying structure, rock star concentration, and the tight, inward, yet impressive style that's common in 2018. Showing more and more minerality with time in the glass, it shuts down relatively quickly and is a wine for the long haul. Do your best to hide bottles for 4-5 years, if not longer, and it should evolve for 30+ years or more." (01/2021)...

The wine comes in at 14.1 percent octane this year and offers up a beautifully refined nose of black cherries, cassis, cigar wrapper, dark soil tones, gentle notes of menthol, a bit of cigar ash and a very discreet framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and nicely sappy at the core, with excellent...
93 points Vinous: "White flowers and chamomile give way to freshly sliced apple, crushed almond and stone as the 2018 Fiano di Avellino Riserva Erre slowly awakens. This coats the entire palate in silken richness, yet it maintains perfect poise, as mineral-tinged stone fruits give way to brown spice under an air of pretty inner florals. There’s an almost-crunchy feel to the finale, yet also a balanced inner sweetness combined with residual acids that creates a sense of total harmony, as hints of lime and melon slowly taper off. The Erre is a single-viney...
97 points James Halliday: "Whole berry/bunch open fermentation for 3 weeks; matured for 10 months in French oak. The Willowlake vineyard is one of the first to venture to the Upper Yarra. Balance is the key word for this beautiful pinot, the red cherry/berry fragrance is mirrored by the palate, where delicate but clear savoury notes of spice are woven through the red fruit palate and aftertaste." (11/2022) 96 points Bob Campbell: "Medium-deep red-purple colour; intense and bright spice aromas, nutty/smoky barrel and foresty fruit aromas combine to give...

97 points Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Pinot Noir Cygnus Block offers tremendous aromatic definition and layering: bursts of lavender, bergamot and botanicals give way to a core of mixed berry preserves, and each return to the glass brings a new alluring fragrance. Its generosity is echoed on the palate, which is packed with floral fruit. It has a support of grainy tannins and mouthwatering acidity and a fantastically detailed, energetic finish. It’s a beautiful Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that embodies power and grace. (EB)" (08/2023) 94 points Jeb Dunnu...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A truly grassy aroma leads to a fresh, herbaceous and crisp wine. To top its crispness, it also has some weight, wood flavors and a creamy core with a white pear texture. It could benefit from aging, at least three years, to bring out the inherent richness of the wine. *Wine Enthusiast Best of 2009* (RV)" (07/2009) Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage, this constant over-achiever’s 2007 exhibits notes of plum sauce, soy, spice box, and unsmoked, high class cigar tobacco. The incredible Domaine de Jouanda is one of the best estates that has remained essentially unknown in the United States despite an explosion in interest in the Armagnac category. 95 points Descorchados : "This is a selection of four different sectors of sauvignon blanc vineyards, planted on volcanic soils overlooking Lake Colbún, at the foot of the Andes in the Maule Valley. It's a cool place, and the temperatures were accentuated by the cold 2022 season, which resulted in an electric sauvignon with herbal notes and tart white fruit in a body that's light yet full of nerve and tension. The flavors are long, and the fruity sensation lingers long on the palate. A great vintage of one of Chile's best sauvignons, and one of the few t...

Jancis Robinson: "100% Chardonnay from Aviza, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Stainless steel, 100% malo and six years sur lattes. Dosage 2.5 g/l. Smells of sour cream and lemon zest. Lots of groovy, grooved bitterness, lots of dusty spice and stone dust. This wine is much more about the finish; the mid palate backfills right at the end. I love the contrast of the rich smoothness and ‘thickness’ of sour cream with the tiny, sharp, peppery, ground-rocks sensation of the bubbles. (TC)" (05/2023)
