This balanced, elegant Champagne is composed of 30% Chardonnay, 60% Pinot Noir and 10% Meunier. The grapes are all from the Gonet family's estate, spread from the southernmost 1er cru of Vertus to the valley of the Marne. It is a gorgeous wine to toast with: bready, vibrant and flavorful. (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne buyer)

Made of old vines dating back as far as 80 years, this long-aged blend of 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir is true prestige cuvée at a regular brut price. The wine uses exclusively massal-selected vines from the Petiau estate and is aged for at least six years on the lees. If you like a creamy style of Champagne that mixes the brioche richness of long aging with the incredible minerality of deep-rooted old vines, you will love this. The bead is perfect, the finish nearly endless, and it is marked by a subtle exoticism that one only finds in the Chardonn...

92 points Wine Advocate: "The darkest ruby of the 13 samples I received from the industrious Cave Les Vignerons de Tavel & Lirac, the 2022 Tavel Cuvee Royale kicks off with notions of crushed stone, lime zest and macerated berries. It's full-bodied, concentrated and richly textured, with a long, citrus and berry finish that could actually use a few months to smooth out. (JC) 92+" (05/2023) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A robust, big-boned style, with expressive wild cherry and cassis flavors. Fruity and concentrated yet also impressively fresh, with miner...

Nos Jolies Ouvrées Bourgogne Chardonnay beautifully showcases the elegance and complexity of Burgundy. Crafted from Chardonnay grapes, this wine offers a harmonious balance of ripe fruit flavors, minerality, and refreshing acidity. Its subtle oak influence adds depth and structure, while the unique terroir imparts a distinct character.
If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, we think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru of Verzenay. Verzenay is the northernmost of all the Grand Crus in this northernmost of French wine regions. The whole village faces north—the wrong way, away from the sun—and yet miraculously ripens Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some say it's because of a meteor that,...

Paul Vincent Ariston says that his 25-year-old vines reflect the vintage, but the Prestige, made from vines averaging 60 years, reflect his terroir. It is composed of 50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, and 25% Meunier. This was one of the best bottles from my last trip, and we drank two just to make sure! It has fantastic Brouillet black cherry power, and finishes very dry and super long. It is a powerhouse in the style of a vintage Bollinger, but with even more soul! Like almost all Champagne, this wine has relatively low alcohol, 12%. (Gary Westby, K&L Ch...

This is a single vineyard Cabernet from Dos Robles Vineyard in the El Pomar sub-region of Paso Robles. The vines were planted in 1994 and are really in their prime at 25 years of age. The vines are planted a steep hillside with slopes up to a 30% grade. A very small production of just 10 barrels (250 cases) were made. The wine aged for 18 months in 40% new French and American oak, with the remainder in neutral barrels. This is big, powerful, inky Paso Robles Cabernet with great structure and length on the palate.

What a value! This blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir spends five years on the lees before release, and comes from the 1er crus of Trépail and Vaudemange as well as the grand cru of Ambonnay. This creamy, brioche filled champagne has a white gold color and extraordinary elegance for the price. This is a poised, elegant wine with perfect bubbles after its long ageing and a clean, dry finish. -Gary Westby

92 points Decanter: "Lovely upfront and distinct aromas that span lemons and limes, apples and pears, with wet stone and light brioche touches. The palate is wonderfully creamy, with delicate soft bubbles and flavours driven by lemon curd and toasty shortcrust pastry. This is refined, elegant and offers good complexity for the price; excellent value. There's lots to like here, it's tasty and easy to enjoy. 96 points James Halliday: "Hand picked, whole-bunch pressed to 500L French puncheons, wild-yeast fermented, matured for 10 months on lees. The Upper Yarra, on red volcanic soils, produces taut wines of extreme length. Here citrus, white stone fruit and green apple are bolstered by natural acidity. Winemaker David Bicknell makes the difficult seem easy." (08/2023) 96 points James Suckling: "Aromas of baked lemon, flint, hazelnut and lime zest. Medium-bodied with bright and driving acidity. The palate is energetic and fruity with an array of smoked citru...

From organically grown grapes." (09/2021) 92 points Wine Spectator: "This red is packed with ripe black cherry, blackberry, violet and tobacco flavors. Vibrant and balanced, with a lingering aftertaste of dark fruit, earth and spice notes. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A year's barrel aging has broadened the appeal of this rich Champagne. With its full texture and tight acidity from the low dosage, the wine is set for further bottle aging. (RV)" (10/2021) K&L Notes: This is Jerome Trudon's smallest production Champagne, and we only received three cases of it for the US market. It is a combination of two vintages, and always spends more than six years on the lees. It is a brioche/toasty style of Champagne with plenty of dried fruit and vinous power behind it. To highlight the concentration ...

91 points Vinous: "Wonderfully balanced and full of character, the NV Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Extra Dry displays a bouquet of crushed yellow apples with savory herbs and white smoke. It’s smooth in texture and gently sweet, blending ripe orchard fruits and spices with notes of candied ginger. This cleans up remarkably well, becoming dry and almost savory in character; yet above all else, it’s refreshing. The most famous of all Japanese whiskies turns 100 this year. The House of Suntory has been committed to producing the highest quality malt whisky for a century and their flagship 12-year-old is one of the world's most sought-after and collectible single malts. It's comprised of a blend of whiskies aged in a multitude of barrel types. 92 points James Suckling: " Baked dark cherries, violets, figs and crushed stones on the nose with a hint of mushroom savoriness. Flavorful and fresh with a sleek, medium to full body. Very silky and powdery tannins, but not overripe. Delicious now." (07/2022)
Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujolais. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking; his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months, and maybe a few bottles for the more pleasant fall ev...

This little find comes from an undisclosed distillery on the Isle of Islay. While the bottler is prohibited from confirming the source, the whisky world seems to be pretty confident that this single malt came from the special distillery on the south side of the island. This distillery, which boasts its own malt floors, seven stills and one of the most flavorful spirits in the business is widely considered the King of Islay. The wild ocean character and deep peaty richness is the key here. Add an unbeatable price, 50% ABV, and we've got your newly minted ...

This exceptional single cask was sold to this bottler as the "Williamson" blended malt and therefore cannot include the source on the label. But we have no problem telling you that this excellent whisky was distilled on the famous little stills located just outside the little seaside town of Port Ellen. Adorned in the throwback label, the Thompson Brothers, are clearly giving the old nudge nudge wink wink to the famous old bottling from nearly a century ago, with block letters and cursive writing. Filled into a used sherry butt in 2010, this excellent ca...

This 30-acre estate only keeps one third of their production for making their own Champagne, selling off the rest of their fruit. They are the oldest grower-producer in their village. They have been estate-bottling Champagne since 1929, and they’ve been growing grapes longer than written records go back. Everything is aged in a hillside cellar that is over 50 feet deep at the back. This great 2012 Champagne is composed of half each Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the oldest vines on the estate. It has a wonderful sourdough toast nose and a touch of smoke ...

This espadin (A. Angustifolia) mezcal is the perfect pick for anyone starting to explore the world of quality mezcal or as a relatively inexpensive option for mezcal-based cocktails. It's very approachable and laden with sweet agave fruit. The smoke component is decidedly there, but not very intense, as one would expect with a well-made mezcal. A rich texture makes this a delightful sipper or stout component in a mezcal variant of the Last Word. Gold medal winner in Tequila Aficionado's 2021 Brands of Promise.

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Chardonnay Cellar Note comes from a handful of sites on the Sonoma Coast and spent 11 months in 30% new French oak. White flowers, crushed citrus, honeysuckle, and brioche notes all emerge from this beauty. It's another rich, textured Chardonnay that stays fresh and lively. With subtle background oak and terrific balance, it's going to keep nicely for at least 4-6 years, probably longer." (05/2021)

This perfect cask of Caol Ila from the excellent Glasgow blender and bottler Hart Brothers is the first Islay cask that they've yet to furnish K&L exclusively. Filled into a high-quality hogshead, this famously ocean-y peater is in full form here. Full bodied and intense, the weighty mouth feel is contrasted by the tangy seaside character. We rarely come across young Caol Ila that's not excellent, but occasionally we are happy to encounter some that are truly superlative. This is obviously in the latter category.

90 points Decanter: "Opens with a fanfare of peach, pear and spiced lemon; subtle architecture in the mouth with a chalky subtext and attractive orchard fruit, transported by a flowing mousse. Pretty accomplished and serious. (Panel Tasting)" (02/2017) K&L Notes: If you have enjoyed the wines of Lallement, Bollinger and Krug in the past, I think you will very much enjoy Michel Arnould. They are bold, masculine Champagnes with plenty of toasty flavor. This is a blend of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, entirely from estate vineyards in the Grand Cru o...

93 points Vinous: "The bouquet on the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is almost confectionary, with sweet Christmas spice giving way to sugar-dusted plums, black cherries, cloves and hints of cocoa. It washes across the palate with velvety waves of polished red fruits, as hints of sour citrus and inner rose tones create contrast and balance. This tapers off structured with fine tannins, a twang of tart black currant and salted licorice. The 2016 needs time to unwind and integrate the wood spice that currently dominates the nose, but there’s a lot und...

100 points Wine Advocate: "Very deep purple-black colored, it is profoundly scented of crushed blackcurrants, warm blueberries, plum preserves, Black Forest cake and charcoal with nuances of unsmoked cigars, forest floor, truffles and star anise plus wafts of violets and stewed tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is super intense and yet wonderfully graceful, featuring a beautiful frame of very fine-grained, very firm tannins and bold freshness supporting layer upon layer of black fruit and earthy flavors, finishing with epic length and depth. This long-aged, pure Meunier hails from the cold climate of Pierry, and has had at least five years on the lees. It is sleek, savory, and framed with a sourdough toast aroma of the best of non-vintage Champagne. The wine is entirely fermented in stainless steel, and then riddled in manual giropallettes, the first I have ever seen in the region. Didier says "it is easy", but I don't think I would have the arm strength to do it! -Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Mostly Grenache Gris (past vintages have had a splash of Roussanne), the 2020 Côtes Catalanes Secret De Schistes Blanc is another brilliant white. Made in a richer, more concentrated style, it offers a great nose of white currants, orchard fruits, white flowers, chalky mineral, and green almond nuances in a medium to full-bodied, brilliantly textured, balanced white that brings both richness and freshness. I've always thought this wine was best enjoyed in its youth, but I suspect this might be changing, and the 2020 should evolve ...

This all estate grown, 100% Pinot Noir champagne comes from Les Riceys, one of the southernmost villages in Champagne. It is the same wine as the reserve, but with an extra year of ageing and without any sugar added. It was the biggest discovery of my March trip to the Aube, but unfortunately only 4000 bottles were produced. This wine has great baguette toast, subtle pinot noir fruit and a great mineral finish that shows off how close this estate is to Chablis. The minerality and length are amazing, and even though it has zero dosage, the 50% reserve win...
Agnes Cade and her father, Henri Gaussen, cultivate the 14 sunny hectares of Château de la Noblesse, an estate that has been in their family for generations. Their zesty rosé is a blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault, and makes a great companion to spicy, saffron-infused dishes. Try it with a Spanish paella for the perfect summer meal.

Finca Garabato is a parcel of Valtea's oldest wines. This wine spends a year in tank with extended lees contact. This gives the wine a lovely richness, which really ramps up the flavor and textural qualities of the wine. Still refreshing, only richer than the regular Valtea bottling and ready to take on a meal.

100 points Jane Anson: "This took home the audience award at the 67 Pall Mall tasting that I was hosting, with good reason. What a brilliant example of why Sauternes should be left to gather nuance and to shed its more exuberant, fattier early years before opening. This is just a masterclass in the layers and complexity that you find in fully mature Yquem; saffron, truffle, pineapple, quince, lime, apricots and lemon. Hugely persistent with a squeeze of scraping slate acidity through the final few minutes that gives a dry but mouthwatering finish. It is ...

The appellation of Picpoul de Pinet covers about 3,000 acres just off the coast of the Mediterranean. It is famous for two things: oysters and this wine of origin, Picpoul.
