Antonio Galloni: "Lavender, violets, plums and black cherries lift from the glass in the 2013 Dolcetto d'Alba. A weightless, polished wine, the 2013 impresses for its exceptional balance and silky finish. This is one of the more refined Dolcettos readers will find. Boschis sources fruit from Ravera di Monforte, Le Coste di Monforte and Mosconi for her Dolcetto. (AG)" (11/2014)
From the winery: "Ruby red in color with violet reflections, this wine is nicely toned in scent with hints of sour black cherry and cherry on recalls of coffee cream. Rich and tonic in the mouth, almost austere, this unique wine has a balsamic and fruity finish."
Inventory: San Francisco
From the winery: "On the palate, there is a perception of hard-candy sweetness that mingles with a beautifully balanced acidity and soft tannin structure. Concentrated black raspberry and plum preserve flavors are interlaced with a subtle earthy minerality that leaves a lasting impression of raspberry, a hint of “red vine” licorice and toasted almonds at last sip."
Anna Maria Abbona is a Dolcetto specialist in Dolgiani, a sub-region of Piedmont where Dolcetto is the star, not content to play backup to Nebbiolo or Barbera. All of the best sites in the area are planted to Dolcetto, producing wines that are deep, concentrated and complex. Abbona uses micro-oxygenation, oak and picking for phenolic ripeness to keep Dolcetto's aggressive tannins in check.
