93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The Syrah Tous les Jours is a quintisential Santa Ynez Valley Syrah. It is simultaneously Bold and Balanced, Rich and Smooth, Fruit Forward and Earthy. It is impossibly dark and full-bodied, without ever going over the top. It is heavily inspired by Northern Rhone Syrah (Hermitage) and Australian Shiraz (Barossa Valley). The aromas and flavors are dominated by black cherry, raspberry, white pepper, forest floor and toasty oak. It is absolutely unique and special expression of Syrah. Moreover, It is a style that one can enjoy every day." (3/2015) K&L Notes: Do you eve... Read More »
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The first winery to plant Syrah in the county continues to produce powerful but layered expressions. This delivers rich aromas of cherry, stewed plum and blackberry alongside sage and a wisp of vanilla. On the palate, it starts rich, until bright acidity and tannins bring balance amidst mocha and blackberry jam flavors and an oak-powered vanilla finish." (2/2015)
94 points James Halliday: "*Special Value Selection* Deep crimson-purple; makes light of its alcohol, for while it is profoundly varietal and regional, it is light on its feet, and the chocolate-wrapped black fruits break free with airily juicy, yet spicy and savoury, flavours on the finish." (7/2014) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "The 2012 Shiraz shows a deep vibrant cerise colour with some youthful purple hues. Mint and spice aromatics belie the full but velvety smooth, lingering palate. Soft, yet powerful tannins offer the promise of a long lasting Shiraz evolving into secondary flavours wi... Read More »
Wine Spectator: "A gentle, perfumy style, with black tea and sandalwood notes leading the way, followed by black cherry and plum fruit. (Web-2014)" K&L Notes: Wine Advaocate reviewer Jeb Dunnuck commented in 2013 that Delas " is producing no nonsense, extremely high quality efforts that are near the top of each of their respective appellations."
93 points James Halliday: "Matured in American and French puncheons for 18 months, it has very good shape and drive to its medium to full-bodied palate, with black cherry, bramble and fruitcake flavours, the mocha oak in balance." (3/2014)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "92+ Deep garnet-purple colored and just gorgeous on the nose, with intense floral and black fruit notes plus some menthol and dusty earth nuances, the full-bodied and rich 2012 Estate Shiraz offers concentrated flavors supported by a good backbone of medium to firm, rounded tannins and refreshing acid. It finishes long. Drink now to 2024+. (LPB) ...Read More »
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Richness (of both flavor and texture) marks this deeply colored, full-bodied Syrah. Aromas of ripe blackberry and licorice coupled with flavors of clove and blackberry jam make it luscious yet not overly big. It has the firm tannins and good balance for aging through 2019." (12/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The classic 2012 Syrah 6th Sense does not compete flavor-wise with the two Cabernets or the Petite Petit, but it is an attractive, supple, full-bodied, black-fruited Syrah offering notes of roasted meats, black olive tapenade, and blackberries. Soft, round an ...Read More »
97 points James Halliday: "Winner of the Jimmy Watson Trophy '14. Seductive from the first drop to the last. Spice-shot berries, black and red, a coating of nuts and cream giving the flavours a sheen. Amaro-like infusions. Sophisticated and yet generally accessible. Beautiful, grainy, peppery length, seamed by ultra-fine tannin. Poster child of savoury-accented Australian red wine." (10/2014)94 points James Suckling: "This vin de soif-style red is packed with juicy spunk. It’s a lively, medium weight syrah with bright red purple color that leads the way for modern cool-climate Australian style. The nose is s ...Read More »
94 points James Halliday: "Good colour; an impressive wine at all points along the way, with a peacock's tail display of black cherry, spice and licorice embraced by warm, fine tannins, oak playing a largely unseen role. Will cellar well, but there's no reason not to drink it today, having flourished over the past 18+ months." (11/2013) K&L Notes: Mount Trio was named one of James Halliday's Top 10 "Dark Horses' of up-and-coming wineries for 2014. This small family estate is owned and managed by veteran winemaker Gavin Berry and his wife. Together they make wines from their own lovingly hand-... Read More »
A perennial value-based favorite, Ravenswood's Vintners Blend Shiraz packs big punches full of mulberry, dark chocolate and roasted meats. Made by one of California's iconic producers.
97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Very deep purple-black colored, the 2010 The Pinnacle Shiraz has aromas of creme de cassis, violets, bruchetta, yeast extract and roasted nuts with whiffs of mocha, menthol, potpourri, aniseed and cloves. Medium to full-bodied and packed with taut, muscular black berry and savory flavor layers, it has a firm structure of grainy tannins and lively acid, finishing very long. 97+. 95 points James Halliday: "Welcome, we hope you enjoy the show. Twist the cap and it's as if the words tumble out. Immediately perfumed and expressive but with the grunt of tannin and fruit to give it real substance. Saturated plum, soy, five spice and smoky, musky oak. The very epitome of a modern major general release shiraz." (3/2014)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple in color and showing aromas of blackcurrants, black plums and baker’s chocolate with hints of tree bark, charcoal and bacon fat, the medium-bodied 2012 Shiraz is tightly knit on the palate with ripe tannins and fruit that are both ...Read More »
Arguably the most popular of the co-branded wines with our staff last year was the 2010 version of this wine so it had a lot to live up to this year. The good news is the staff is every bit as excited about it this year and we hope that enthusiasm will rub off on you. Bob Lindquist was more than happy to work with us again this year and put together this 100% Syrah bottling from certified Demeter Bio-Dynamically grown vines in the cool Edna Valley Appellation. Unmistakably Syrah from the first sniff of the nose the bold cracked black pepper, fried bacon,... Read More »
94 points James Halliday: "*Outstanding* Bright red fruits, particularly fresh and vibrant on the bouquet; deeply fruited and long, with fresh acidity on the finish." (1/2008)93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Shiraz 'Hillside' was aged for 28 months in mostly American oak. Deep purple in color, it has an enticing, expressive bouquet of smoke, bacon, game, and blueberry. Opulent on the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered, spicy, ripe, and mouth-filling. The tannins are well-concealed but should permit 5-7 years of evolution in the cellar. Drink this top-notch effort through 2025. Jancis Robinson: "What tremendous scent! Wow -- this gives astonishing flavour for the price: meat, smoke, pepper, chocolate, coffee. Charismatic, gregarious and compelling -- wins you over by sheer force of personality. *Very Good Value* 17/20 points. Drink 2015-2025. (RH)" (2/2015)
Copain's Tous Ensemble wines are approachable, everyday drinkers sourced from fine Mendocino County vineyards. The character is food-friendly and versatile for a pop-and-pour with some pedigree. From the winery: "Our 2012 Tous Ensemble Syrah is a medium-bodied blend of grapes from Mendocino County. The body is lightly textured with medium tannins. Bright acidity accents the palate of dark brambly fruits, hard spices and an earthy core. Drink now, though it will improve over the course of five years."
95 points James Halliday: "Vivid purple-crimson; a totally delicious wine with a spring in its step more frequently encountered in cool climate Shiraz; its fruit flavours span blood plum, red cherry and mulberry, these complexed by spice and garden herbs, the tannins fine and supple. Great value." (9/2013)91 points Wine & Spirits: "**Best Buy and one of the Year's Best Australian Shiraz** This grows in a warm spot in a high-elevation vineyard otherwise planted to Riesling. It’s clean, fragrant and relatively light in weight; the purple plum fruit has a tart acidity, creating a peppery crush of flavor. ...Read More »

95 points Bob Campbell: "Deeply tinted, full-flavoured Syrah with appealing sweet plum, blackberry, raspberry and cracked pepper flavours. Nicely structured to allow drinkability now but also let the wine age well. Delicious wine with a bright future." (4/2015)94 points Sam Kim: "This is hugely promising. The wine exhibits outstanding fruit purity with elegant complexity - black plum, blueberry, smoke and cedar. It's concentrated and refined on the palate showing gorgeous fruit weight and velvety texture, and finishes superbly long and smooth. Supple tannins provide excellent structure and length. 92 points James Halliday: "*Special Value Selection* Strong crimson-purple; has a complex interplay on its bouquet and palate between the fragrant plum and mulberry fruit on the one hand, and a savory/chocolatey fruitcake McLaren Vale imprint on the other. Will have great appeal to biodynamic acolytes."91 points Wine Spectator: "Fresh and vibrant, this full-bodied style offers juicy currant and blackberry flavors at the center, floating through the harmonious finish. Drink now through 2020." (8/2014) K&L Notes: The nose shows powerful, lifted ripe berry fruit, vanilla and chocolate. On the palate there is plenty of rich,... Read More »
92 points Wine Spectator: "An elegant and complex red, offering rich and concentrated flavors of dark cherry, damson plum, raspberry and chocolate that show a creamy intensity. Presents pepper and allspice notes midpalate, with a finish of huckleberry and flan. Drink now through 2020" (2/2014)
93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cornas Premices knocks it out of the park with its chocolaty dark fruits, leather, crushed rock and licorice aromas and flavors. Dense, full-bodied and concentrated, with a hedonistic, voluptuous slant, drink it over the coming 6-7 years. Another brilliantly run estate in the Northern Rhône, Eric and Joel Durand have made rich, concentrated and textured 2012s that show the vintage nicely. These should drink nicely on release yet evolve gracefully. Their 2013s follow suit, with their top cuvee, the Cornas Confidence, being the only wine that wil ...Read More »
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Syrah comes from 20 to 40-year-old, hand-harvested vines. It was fermented with indigenous yeast in stainless steel, aged eight months in concrete tanks, and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Perhaps that explains its fleshy, chewy mid-core, and attractive blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with hints of licorice and incense. This fruit-driven, substantial Syrah possesses silky tannins. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years." (2/2014)
93 points Wine Spectator: "This fresh and inviting red is juicy and dense, offering raspberry, cherry, clotted cream and spice flavors that persist against the polished tannins. This has intensity without weight, finishing with focus and deft balance. Drink now through 2025." (8/2014)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky purple. Powerful blueberry, cassis, licorice and dark chocolate on the deeply perfumed nose. Broad and sweet on the palate, with potent dark fruit liqueur and floral pastille flavors accompanied by suggestions of olive paste and black pepper. Finishes with smooth tannins and very good length, leav ...Read More »
James Halliday: "Special Value Selection: Clear, vivid red; the fragrant, aromatic bouquet leads into a light to medium-bodied palate, full of juicy red fruit flavours tailor-made for early drinking, although there are enough fine tannins on the finish to sustain it for a couple of years in the bottle, or match it with hearty food. Excellent value." K&L Notes: A unique blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Tempranillo that all do extremely well in the warm Swan Valley climate. This wine captures the richness and power of Swan Valley fruit, while retaining lots and freshness and spice. A medi... Read More »
91 points Antonio Galloni: "Opaque ruby. Aromas of cassis, cherry compote, cured tobacco and pungent flowers, with a note of black olive emerging with air. Fleshy, sweet and seamless in texture, offering round dark fruit preserve and bitter chocolate flavors plus a hint of spicecake. Fine-grained tannins give shape to the finish, which features a sexy floral nuance and a touch of candied violet. In a fairly savory style, which will make it very flexible at the table. (JR)" (12/2014)
96 points James Halliday: "An unambiguously top class version of a distinguished lineage; the colour is as bright as the spicy red fruit aromas of the bouquet, the palate with a cascade of red and black fruits, spice, licorice and bitter chocolate flavours, yet providing all this with finesse and calm."93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Dead Arm Shiraz has slightly evolving blackberry notes wafting over a core of forest fruit coulis and dried mulberries accented by suggestions of sandalwood, Indian spices and dried Mediterranean herbs. Medium to full-bodied with loads of evolved ...Read More »
90-92 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2013 Syrah is one of the real overachievers in this range. Mike Officer did not think his flagship Papa's Block Syrah was good enough to be bottled on its own, so it was blended with a parcel of Sonoma Mountain fruit for this year's Syrah. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke and licorice all jump from the glass in a plump, extroverted Syrah to drink while the fruit retains its juiciness. Hints of lavender, violets, mint and dark spices wrap around the finish. I am not sure I have met a winery owner quite like Mike Officer before. Of course, Officer is well- ...Read More »
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A rich, meaty and slightly gamey effort that oozes Syrah character, the 2011 Syrah Holus Bolus delivers beautiful blackberry, raspberry, smoked bacon, saddle leather and hints of pepper that flow to a medium to full-bodied, balanced and beautifully constructed palate. Juicy and rich, yet with bright acidity, it has an upfront, delicious feel and should be consumed over the coming 3-4 years. It’s very well done and well worth seeking out! Drink now-2018. (JD)" (8/2013)
Mick Unti says this about his delicious red: "This 2012 Syrah really illustrates the best attributes of this excellent vintage. It is very dark, with intense blue and blackberry fruit, licorice and spice. It might be the most full-bodied normale Syrah we’ve made in years. If you drink this wine now, you might consider decanting it. I’m counting on this Syrah to age nicely over the next 4 to 7 years."
96 points James Halliday: "The grapes were grown on Barossa Valley terra rossa: oxidised iron red soils over limestone, and the wine was matured in used French oak. The vivid colour of the wine attests to its moderate alcohol, as does the joyful display of red and black fruits; the tannins are supple, the oak subtle but evident. Fantastic value."
99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis is an off-the-hook effort that easily competes with the more expensive single-vineyard releases. Seamless, gorgeously pure and seriously concentrated and full-bodied, it’s an insanely gorgeous Syrah offers layers of creme de cassis, vanilla bean, creamy licorice and smoked meat aromas and flavors. Still a baby, it needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years, at which point it should offer another two decades or more of longevity. Don’t miss this beauty! 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Leading off the 2012s, the Saint Joseph les Coteaux is a solid value that offers classic saddle leather, ground herbs, pepper and sweet blackberry and raspberry fruit. It’s medium-bodied, supple and elegant, with plenty of fruit. Drink it over the coming 4-5 years. (JD)" (12/2014)91 points Wine Spectator: "A fresh, racy style, with bright chalk and violet notes highlighting the damson plum, cherry and black currant fruit. Savory and white pepper details run through the energetic finish. Drink now through 2019" (9/2014)
99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better and one of the top two to three wines in the vintage, the 2011 Hermitage Les Bessards (100% Syrah that spent 16 months in 70% new French oak) possesses an inky purple color to go with a fabulously rich, pure bouquet of smoked earth, ground pepper, underbrush and licorice that’s supported by awesome black raspberry and cassis-styled fruit. Full-bodied, seamless and layered, with masses of sweet tannin and notable structure, this beauty bucks the vintage stereotype and will need short-term cellaring to become approachable. Willowbrook is a largely under-the-radar label from Joe Otos, winemaker at Owl Ridge Wines in Sebastopol. We've got some great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from choice vineyards from Willowbrook in the past, and now this Syrah. It comes from the Altes Vineyard, located in the Rincon Valley area in the middle of Sonoma County--not far from the hot Kick Ranch vineyard.
98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Cornas of the vintage is Clape’s 2012 Cornas. An incredible effort, its inky purple/black color is followed by spectacular aromas and flavors of black raspberry, graphite, beef blood, iron, cedar and white pepper (among other things). This is Cornas at its finest, with insane aromatics, full-bodied richness and massive concentration, yet at the same time staying elegant, seamless and gorgeously pure. It’s more approachable than the 2010, but should still need 3-4 years of cellaring and have two decades of longevity. While it doesn't get any more Corn ...Read More »
91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated bright ruby. Reticent, high-pitched aromas of black raspberry, kirsch, licorice and violet, complemented by some sweet oak. Very ripe, dense and smooth, showing an almost liqueur-like quality to its black cherry and saline flavors. Not at all overly sweet but the tannins are suave and fine-grained. This has enough juicy energy to expand in the bottle. As in most recent vintage, a terrific value in Washington Syrah." Patrina is Alban Vineyards' entry level Syrah bottling which is sourced from newer parcels of estate-grown fruit. This 2012 bottling has not yet been professionally reviewed, but the 2011 vintage garnered 93 points both from Antonio Galloni as well as Jeb Dunnuck writing for Wine Advocate.
95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The brilliant 2012 PharaohMoans is a blend of 98% Syrah and 2% Grenache that was aged in 80% new French oak barrels prior to bottling. A big, rich and fleshy Paso red, it knocks it out of the park with its chocolatey dark fruits, pepper, olive and charred meat-like aromas and flavors. This isn't for those craving delicacy, yet it stays clean and classy, with full-bodied richness, thrilling amounts of texture and a seamless, focused finish. There's not a track record here with regards to aging, yet this should be better in another year and have at least a ...Read More »
89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An impressive 2013 that comes from the lieu-dit Guilherand, the inky colored 2013 Saint Joseph Guilherand has lots of minerality in its blackberry, cracked black pepper, bacon fat and wild-herb bouquet. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated effort that has vibrant acidity, good underlying structure, and a clean, classical feel on the finish. Give it a year or so and drink bottles through 2023. (JD)" (2/2015)
