2012 Copain "Tous Ensemble" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir

From fruit grown on several sites in Anderson Valley, Tous Ensemble is an immediately appealing Pinot Noir with a crunchy and vigorous red-fruited profile. It is great introduction to the style of winemaker Wells Guthrie, who delivers cool climate terroir which isn't sullied by high alcohol or too much wood. A perfect and long growing season in 2012 saw a two week harvest extending well into October but at only a 13.6% finished alcohol level in the finished wine, which was aged for nine months in neutral French oak. From the winery: "The delicately perfu... Read More »

Balanced and lingering in crisp melon and tropical fruit, it provides enough creamy texture to go well with food." 2013 Frog's Leap Rutherford Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc

The precise acidity allows the wine to feel clean and rich at once, ending savory." (10/2014) K&L Notes: Frog's Leap Sauvignon Blanc is 100% stainless steel fermented from dry-farmed, organically grown vineyards in Rutherford. The winemaker's notes: "The 2013 Sauvignon Blanc opens with aromas of lime, grapefruit, hay and a hint of mint. Connoisseurs Guide: "The Chardonnays of Grgich Hills are rarely, if ever, wines that trade on high ripeness and richness, but this very lean, nearly wiry young wine flirts with suggestions of greenness and proves to be very tight-fisted at this point. While we like its freshness and its hard-to-miss vibrancy, we would be happier if it were a little more outgoing in fruit, but given the winery's track record for slow-to-unfold, long-aging white wines, we are willing to set this one aside for several years."
